Liking the LP, I've heard of this game but never played it myself.

Voted, and looks like we're all in agreement so far.

^^^ agreed, this game has detailed enough conversations I figure it'll probably have quite a lot of choices.

Goondalf certainly is a poetic sort, isn't he.

...oops.

Also,

Not only do we get an actual end to the story besides a meaningless "game over", we even get a glimpse of the future that makes a lot more sense as we progress and we learn the cost of our failiure. The game over text even changes depending on our progress if I'm not misremembering.

If so, that's awesome. I love little details like that, really shows the people behind it cared about what they were doing.

Probably involuntarily. There's at least one monster capable of one-shotting you in this game no matter yours stats and it might not be what you all readers think. This game is a motherfucker.

Sounds great. I hope it's a slime. :allears:

And so begins Goondalf's TRUE quest: to collect every single pair of pants in Avalon.

Black Robe
Sep 12, 2017

I thought that having obtained a Fancy Hat our hero had decided he'd reached the pinnacle of existence and retired. I'm glad his increasingly fashionable adventures are continuing.

Black Robe
Sep 12, 2017

Goondalf, when I suggested you collect every pair of pants in Avalon, I didn't mean you to include underpants. Especially used Ogre underpants. Sheesh.

This was pretty action packed, rounding off all our sidequests nicely! I'm glad this isn't one of those games that tells you to do something in the first scene but there's no payoff until right before the endgame. I thought the hunt for Corvus would take up multiple chapters in itself.

Wasn't expecting there to be a party, either; I assumed this was Goondalf's solo triumph. Hope he finds enough pants to go around.

Black Robe
Sep 12, 2017

I sort of assumed Corvus would be a party member given that we just rescued him and all.

Then again, leaving him out means we get to see Goondalf's very... varied... people skills.

Let's go find us a McGuffin.

Black Robe
Sep 12, 2017

Goondalf's personality seems to be starting to tick back and forth like a pendulum, these days. But then, he's living in a madhouse and being taught by a skeleton (I love this game), so it's quite understandable.

Black Robe
Sep 12, 2017

Lots more fancy threads for us to dazzle our foes. :toot:

Having no way to resurrect party members is the first truly bad thing I've seen in this game, though. That's brutal. By all means make it difficult/expensive/really tedious to discourage the player brute-forcing everything, but flat out nothing is stupid. Especially when you are literally receiving training from a necromancer's undead buddy.

In case you're wondering, yes, there absolutely will be at least one fashion show update at some point.
I should certainly hope so. Pants for the pants god!

Huh, neat. Always nice when games add a dimension to their minor villains. Even if it does come with an additional and probably aggravating quest arc. It'll be interesting to see how this eventually gets resolved.

Klingon w Bowl Cut posted:

Don't try to pretend your worst nightmare isn't being held in place by a skeleton wizard.
Depends, how many TP does it require? :v:

Goondalf has his ways.
It's coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. Or maybe Mountain Dew... he is a goon, after all.

Great update as always.

Well, the lich utterly ignored us, so who knows. Maybe he's a good guy. We've already buddied up with the necromancer and his skeleton pal, and we're apparently going to try and save a lot of the monsters around here.

This update was completely lacking in stolen clothing. :colbert:

Despite that, this is one of the very few games where I feel that backtracking and filler is actually enjoyable? I can remember who the NPCs are now, and they refer to previous interactions like they're actually people instead of sidequest-dispensers.

It's also great that some of the chapters are optional. Doesn't help on first playthrough since obviously you'd follow the plot coupons, but in re-runs you can decide how much you want to go through.

(also... creamy elf filling? :stare:)

You mean just in case the "How dare you mere mortals accuse a wizard?" card doesn't work?

Black Robe

Elves sneaking around hanging 'kick me' signs on people's asses? Okay then.

Also didn't pick Wyatt as the type to wear thigh-highs, but each to their own.

Well, the lizards are a different species. It's no different from humans keeping and eating livestock. I shouldn't think the cows approve of that either. It's their own fault for being made from tasty things :colbert:

...the unicorn is named Mikki. I assume in true young-teen-girl fashion the i's are dotted with little hearts or smiley faces?

I do love the variety of fashion in this game. From faceless eldritch horror to dude in denim dungarees. :allears:

Absolutely, but it has to be accompanied by a dramatically billowing cape of some sort. It must billow dramatically at all times. Even while sleeping.

Things we have learned in this update:

1. Elves still suck.

2. Wyatt really does like fetish wear.

3. Dire wolves do not appreciate fashion.

Also disappointed Goondalf didn't get to ride the teenage unicorn. Given his way with the ladies - and with anyone else requiring human speech, generally - I'm sure he's, cough, qualified.

Black Robe
Sep 12, 2017

You killed the doggos.

Truly, Goondalf has become what he once opposed. No fashionable pants can save him now.

Your utter evilness aside, I don't know how I feel about the Scoutmaster also randomly being an undercover agent in addition to being the best and able to teach you all these impressive upgrades and such. Quite apart from the 'so why didn't he do everything we just did months ago?' issue, it's a little bit teenager's-pet-expy-RP-character (complete with dramatic backstory) and doesn't really add anything to the plot. Unless he's going to be important later or something.

This game is good enough to have earned plenty of slack anyway so it's not a big deal, just a slightly off note.

I see what you mean there. This is probably one case where my nostalgia got in the way and made something seem more awesome than it actually is. I thought it was cool that the game had a questgiver lie to you and have that be a good thing, instead of setup to make you hate them or whatever, but yeah overall he's not great.

And listen, I had to kill the doggos. There are 15 of them, that's worth 2-3 points of Mysticism!

No, that's a good point too.

That's some Harry Potter poo poo right there.

Lots of loot and sassy talking books this update, nice.

It would clash with our red hood though, which is a fate worse than death for any fashion-conscious wizard, so Icharas can have this one.

Black Robe

The resolution to the Lurkers' story was pretty cool. I love how much detail they put in, giving all of them unique comments when you talk to them. One more chapter to go, huh? It's criminal that there aren't any other games in this universe and that this isn't better known.

Black Robe
Sep 12, 2017

One of the selling points from the OP was that this game pretty much lets you multiclass, so I guess the idea is that you do need magic to have the best chance of progressing but you don't have to follow a specific path to use it.

But really why wouldn't you be a mage anyway, magic has so much more variety than 'here's yet another sword just with slightly higher numbers in the description'.
