Who wants a throne made of ugly swords anyway? Opening recruitment for yet another pbf of Game of Thrones, as has happened times before. Expect me to screw up combat calculations a few times, and forget to remove orders from the map, but I'm told people had fun. We'll be moving back to the base game starting set-up this time around, but... The Dance with Dragons alternate version we played last time did have some interesting House Cards. I would like to use them, but I believe that just giving each house its alternate card set would drastically imbalance the game. As such, I figured it might be interesting to do a draft. All cards from both the base game, and Dance with Dragons, will be thrown into a pool, and the players will do a snake draft to build up their hand. Every player must end the draft with the standard distribution of 4-3-2-2-1-1-0. In the base game I would be worried about the first few picks grabbing the few truly overpowering cards, but I feel that in the combined pool there are enough such cards that everyone can get at least one. Note that the few cards that reference one single other card have been changed slightly (e.g.: Davos Seaworth now doesn't read "If Stannis Baratheon..."; instead it reads "If your [4] card...") I am aware that this decision might be controversial with players . If you would like to join a vanilla game, but would be unwilling to join this set-up, then please post and mention that. If it proves too unpopular, we'll just play vanilla. Check out the first thread for my rather poor summary of the rules, if you think you might find it useful. Quick links: Rulebook Comprehensive summary and reference FAQ List of Wildling cards Contents of Westeros decks !! House card draft pool Opening recruitment for now, it will last at least two days, possibly a few more, depending on how much interest there is. This game cannot work with less than 6 players. ETB is guaranteed a slot, as reigning champion, and people who weren't in the last game will be given priority (not that I expect to be overflowing with sign-ups). Acceptableloss posted:I think the draft might be rather unbalancing, but I'll give it a go. It sounds interesting. Houses will be assigned first. Then I will randomly select a draft order, and you can pick any card from the pool, as long as you limit yourself to the 4 3 2 2 1 1 0 distribution.

It nice to have multiple new people. Not closing registrations quite yet; need to hear back from some messages first, but the game should be starting tomorrow.

House assignments are done: ETB of house Stark SadBag of house Greyjoy von Metternich of house Baratheon phtthya-lyi of house Lannister nimby of house Martell AcceptableLoss of house Tyrell My apologies to The General, the RNG wasn't in your favour today. Next game you'll qualify as a newbie again, so you'll almost certainly get in. Drafting order: Tyrell Stark Lannister Martell Greyjoy Baratheon I will also point out that for this game I will take away the extra Footman I had given Lannister in the past. That was partially justified by Greyjoy having such massively powerful house cards, and that will (hopefully) no longer be the case. So this is the starting set-up: Tyrell to pick a card. Here's the house card pool again (link also in the OP) https://pastebin.com/2HNrvCVx

Oh, and a quick note - SadBag and von Metternich, can you please join the goon board games discord? We have our own cozy little channel there, and private Discord messages should be how you communicate with me and each other. Here's a 1-day invite (I can generate new ones if necessary): https://discord.gg/wB83y7

So, just for clarity, Baratheon gets two pick twice now, then we go in reverse. Tyrell [4] Stannis Baratheon: If you are not being supported in this combat, remove all Support orders (including your own) adjacent to the embattled area, cancelling any supporting strength they may have been providing. Stark [2] Balon Greyjoy: The printed combat strength of your opponent's House card is reduced to 0. Lannister [3] Ser Loras Tyrell: If you are attacking and win this combat, move the March Order token used into the conquered area to resolve again later this round. Martell [1] Salladhor Saan: If you are being supported in this combat, the combat strength of all Ships not your own is reduced to 0. Greyjoy [3] Victarion Greyjoy: If you are attacking, all of your participating Ships (including supporting own Ships) add +2 to combat strength instead of +1. Baratheon

By the way, two announcements. First, for new people: I make it a habit to send you a Discord message if it is/becomes your turn while I'm online. This isn't meant to suggest that you're too slow, this is just meant to be an alternative notification, since a lot of people are more likely to become aware of a Discord PM than thread posts happening. Secondly, for everyone, differently from previous games: If you march away from an area, and don't specify, I will assume you're not leaving a PT behind. It's best to just specify, whatever you choose, but that will be the default.

I'm going to make a judgment call and accept that, yes, a support token on Storm's End is slightly nonsensical, and I'm going to change it to a CP* (even though technically, you could argue it's "too safe" since Baratheon now knows for sure it can't be raided. I can easily believe CP* was the original intent).
