This harsh land cannot accommodate two tribes that are at odds with each other. We have driven the Jackals back a season ago, and it might be time to finish the job.

Summer - Week 4quote:A headstrong community member decides to put one of their ideas in motion. Start a foolish project. I think I should take a contempt token for this? I'm still not clear on how those work. Action - Discover Something New As we finalize our preparations for our raid, a scout named Teucer returns in great haste. Her news is shocking - the Jackals are building a fortified watch tower overlooking the half-bridge. It's an excellent place to monitor our comings and goings, and to interdict much of our activities. Fortunately, it's unfinished. We have a chance to take it out now before it becomes a true danger - and perhaps capture one of the warriors manning it. From them we might learn the location of their lair. ![]() Projects: Repurpose the Spindly Things (2), Establish a mining operation on the derelict (3), Gather supplies for a raid (1), A New Expedition to the Ruins (5) Abundances: Courage Scarcities: Farmland, Ore, Ammunition Contempt: Fathis Munk (0), chin up everything sucks (0), AJ_Impy (0), Comrade Gorbash (0) Comrade Gorbash fucked around with this message at May 13, 2018 around 15:34 |

Summer - Week 5quote:The eldest among you dies. What caused the death? ![]() Nausicaa fell ill a few nights ago and finally passed away this morning. The illness was quick and brutal and we couldn't do anything to save her. We don't know where it came from, nor do we know if others are infected. Rumors abound that the foreigners brought this plague with them. Action - Start a project Nausicaa has been our elder for longer than most of us can even remember. Her death ushers in a new era in the community and needs to be marked properly. Gather Supplies For A Raid Piles and piles of dried and smoked fish have been gathered, enough to support a group of fighters for a few weeks as they seek out the Jackals home. Ammunition is still in short supply, but the doubters are assured that the raiders can steal ammunition from the Jackals in their first strike. Summer - Week 6 quote:Someone leaves the community. Who? What are they looking for? Makaeda has discovered that his feet are already itchy, the community feeling too large and unstable for him to settle down. After a few weeks, the old warrior offers to make his way to the ruins and set up a permanent camp there and act as guardian of the ruins. He seems to want a limited form of isolation, close enough to the community to visit and occasionally be visited, but not having to deal with people every day. Action: Start a Project The young would-be warriors gather the supplies and load up a pair of hovercraft, with promises to check the half-bridge for any signs of the enemy on their way to raid the Jackals. They promise to be back in a few weeks with knowledge of where the Jackal home community is. ![]() Projects: Repurpose the Spindly Things (0), Nausicaa's funeral (0), Establish a mining operation on the derelict (2), A New Expedition to the Ruins (4), Raid the Jackals (3) Abundances: Courage Scarcities: Farmland, Ore, Ammunition Contempt: Fathis Munk (0), chin up everything sucks (0), AJ_Impy (0), Comrade Gorbash (0) chin up everything sucks fucked around with this message at May 17, 2018 around 01:53 |

Repurpose the Spindly Things After lengthy examination, it appears the Spindly Things are not as monstrous as we first thought. They do not act independently: There is a central control unit with an instruction set in their cave, thankfully portable. A good number of the Spindly Things were salvaged, and after a fair bit of trial and error, can be set to perform simple tasks.

Nausicaa's funeral After a week of preparations everything is complete, the driftwood coffin, the funeral meal and some of the more artistically inclined among us have prepared stories and songs about our departed eldest. We light the torches and burn the incense, preparing for a night of revel and sorrow, a night of remembrance and a night of hope. At least that is how it usually goes. It seems like the death of our oldest has impacted the community more than usual, especially seeing the circumstances. Rumors abound that her death could have been avoided if the strangers had been turned back, that they brought sickness and disease, a plague strong enough to finally sever Nausicaa's grip on life, after all these years. It is a sad ceremony, a ceremony of whispers and side-eye glances. Summer - Week 7quote:Summer is fleeting. Discard the top two cards off the top of the deck and take two actions this week. Action - Start a Project There are a lot of vicious rumours going around, and left unchecked they could tear this community apart. But the mangrove sways in the wind without being cast down by it. The refugees and the locals have one strong commonality: A common enemy. So, we twist the rumours to draw us together, focus our ire and hatred outwards towards the other. We take the vicious rumours and scapegoat the Jackals, riling up our people together against the enemy. Who brought the disease? the Jackals! Who attacked our settlements? The Jackals! Use the rumours to scapegoat the Jackals We are united in a common cause, against our Jackal foe. Stories of their many treacheries have been whispered often enough that all know them by heart, hearts opened to one another and hardened against our enemy. We no longer have an abundance of vicious rumours, for all speak openly of their perfidy. Where there was a risk of internal division, our focus has been turned outwards. It is time to raid them as one people. Discussion In due time. A long term exploration after the Jackals have been dealt with. Do not spread ourselves too thin or pass up an opportunity.

Summer - Week 9quote:A project finishes early, what led to its early completion As news of the looming war reaches Ino's expedition, she finds herself forced to cut it short. She manages to convince the other members to work double-time for the last few days but is unable to convince them to stay far from our homes. Action - Start a project Ino is not interested in war, she has truly become obsessed with the before time and as soon as she hears about the new Sentinel and our plan to send a small expedition to it, she volunteers. With her are a half dozen of her most loyal followers. ![]() Projects: ![]() ![]() Abundances: Courage, Vicious Rumors Scarcities: Farmland, Ammunition Contempt: Fathis Munk (0), chin up everything sucks (0), AJ_Impy (0), Comrade Gorbash (0) Raid the jackals It's a good thing we discovered the Jackal tower before they were able to finish the fortifications. Using the hovercraft our warriors were able to come at the outpost from an unexpected direction. They lay in wait until the Jackals were busy off-loading the latest supply caravan and took them by surprise while they were busy. A few of them remained at the tower which is now ours, the others return to us with stolen supplies and even more importantly, information as to the location of the Jackal hometown, far leeward. ![]()

A New Expedition to the Ruins In order to reach the object, Ino's expedition spent weeks constructing a cofferdam and pumping out water. Only then could they truly begin excavating their way down. With the war looming, she pushed her followers to work round-the-clock shifts to complete the digging. Even this furious pace only bore fruit in the final days. What they found was a ship, buried deep in the sands. But not a ship like any had seen. It was immense, shaped like an arrowhead and smooth as a river stone. The outside of the vessel was made of a strange material, not metal, more like ceramic, which accounted for the weak signal. It took several hours to find a way through the hatch they had found, which led to a small room and another matching hatchway. Only once they had opened this did they enter the ship itself. With little time remaining, Ino and her closest followers were able to explore no more than a tenth of the ship. But from within they brought incredible things. Strange armor, somehow both formfitting and bulky, unfaded white and orange. Tools, familiar but cunningly made and far superior to anything we can make ourselves. A collection of optics, binoculars and scopes of shocking clarity. And a crate of hand-held lights, the likes of which only the oldest among us have seen functional. All useful things she sends back to the community. They also found climbing and exploring gear, some of which they kept for themselves, to aid in their planned exploration of the new Sentinel. But one of those who returned tells us Ino brought other things out of the ship, things in large, smooth black cases, that she kept hidden from the others. And one man-sized case covered in bright symbols that looked like our own wards against danger. Ino took these with her as well.

Summer, Week 10quote:You discover a cache of supplies or resources. Add a new abundance. Jackpot! The Jackal's pots, to be precise. Somewhat crude but effective bombs were poorly hidden in their forward tower, and after a meticulous search, they are now ours, more explosives than we know what to do with, be it warfare, mining or any other usage of blowing things up. We should investigate their camp. What has occurred there? Ino's Sentinel exploration Ino and her team have returned, they report that the Sentinel does not only offer an unparalleled view of the region, but also contains a wealth of rather well preserved components and machine pieces from the time before. They have been unable to ascertain the real function of the structure but have taken a few pieces to bring back. Ino also tells us that her team have set rope ladders and iron rungs all across the building, rendering further expeditions and hopefully exploitation of the Sentinel easier.
