God of War is a hack n' slash action-adventure in the vein of Darksiders with a similar structure to the latest Uncharted/Raiders: One open worldish hub area that you return to at various points throughout the story interdicted with "advance plot here" plot missions usually culminating in a big boss setpiece. There are a lot of secret areas and some looping pathways with optional bosses and treasure rooms. The story's not too bad and the level design, combat, art direction and environments are all exceptional. It's a really good game with almost zero filler, not much more to be said. If you like character driven single-player narrative games that don't look like a piece of crap or take 100 hours to beat then God of War is a must-play.

No announcement yet but it’s a flagship first-party game and there are some things in it that stand out as obvious add-on access points so I’d say it’s likely.

It’s absolutely worth buying right now, though.

Horizon did a similar thing last year where they said "no planned DLC" but then after a couple months when it was a gigundo bazillion seller they said "okay we found some DLC under the couch." Probably to keep stragglers from waiting on some kind of GOTY edition.

That being said GoW like HZD is a totally complete-feeling game at release and doesn't need an expansion although I'd gladly welcome it.

MS seems uninterested in making the X-Box anything more than a proprietary Win10 gaming machine if they don't pull out of the console market altogether, which is unfortunate because competition is good for the industry and exclusives are where you tend to find games that aren't multiplatform service-based monstrosities.

The thing is even if you put a pretty homely looking person as the protagonist of your game then they’ll naturally begin to seem more attractive in the eyes of your audience because we are conditioned to sympathize with the main character of a story.

The whole "mostly linear story missions interconnected by 1-3 larger hub areas that you return to at various points throughout the game" has been around long before Asylum, although God of War does proudly display its influences there. It's used a lot because it works, particularly for action games since the structure helps keep forward momentum.
