Accident Underwater posted:I mean he probably was because look at him but the home run spike is much easier to attribute to a fluke season. If steroids got him to 50 homers it's not like he would've just stopped. Same deal with Luis Gonzalez. If you have enough power that you can hit 30 homers then it's certainly within chance that you can pop 50. Is Matt Davidson on steroids but only when he plays the Royals? My column:

On pace for 75 wins if I did that math right? Yeah that seems like a reasonable to good bet to get you second in this year's AL Central.

patonthebach posted:Are home run distances not measured by the total length the ball travelled away from the bat (including the feet travelled upwards?). So even though it only may have gone 425 feet flat from home plate, it may have been 515 feet in the air? I don't think they've ever been counted this way, but now I'm really curious to see what the furthest traveled in feet out was by this measurement.

Even though this whole thing was a disaster in slow motion it still seems like it escalated quickly.

Huh, the Dodgers no-hitter was only the 12th combined no hitter ever thrown? I mean it makes sense that there would be less of them because why take a pitcher out, I'm just surprised that there are so few of them. Assuming that stat is true at least, I saw it on Deadspin.

I remember it mainly from his blog back when I used to read his blog. I can't find anything anymore either, so I might be putting words into his mouth. Or it was on his older blog that just disappeared at some point since he had no idea what he was doing and lost a bunch of stuff.

Jorge Soler is hot though. Which is one of the few things that could possibly matter about this season for the Royals I guess.

Fatter sure, but, like fatter in a natural progression rather than putting on a ton of weight you wouldn't expect him to. alpha_destroy posted:Whitlock is irredeemable, but Joe Pos is fine sports writer with a handful of bad takes. Don't even pretend to put them on the same level. I still like a lot of Pos stuff when I bother to read him, but woo boy when he has a bad take it makes it a goddamned doozy. I don't know where he went wrong with Paterno other than just being in the middle of writing a book about him when it turns out he wasn't the wholesome figure everyone thought up until then and he was too deep to come up for air and realize how hosed his opinion was....but it did kind of ruin him for me. He definitely hasn't gone completely off the rails after starting from a place where he was half off the rails anyway like Whitlock though.

Kevlar v2.0 posted:The "imagine if" statement they SHOULD be saying with regards to Soler is "imagine if he could stay healthy for a full season." I think it says something that I'm the only Royals fan who even noted he is doing well so far and a bunch of Cubs fans are in here trying to tell people how awesome he is when healthy. Hey, I hope he really is. I just don't have the apparent lifelong love of the man because of one hot postseason that all of you guys do. e: Maybe RCarr isn't a Cubs fan as far as the guy you were quoting goes? I don't know.

Joey Freshwater posted:NL East might suck yall What level of suck are we talking? Because I think my division has yours beat. Anyway I randomly read a really old thing after Posnanski talk earlier where he argues Cleveland should go back to the Spiders (which...well hell, we can all agree on that). But even though Wahoo has been in the news a bunch recently I was just struck by how goddamned amazingly awful the whole thing is. It started with this which is actually bland in comparison: Morphed to the same type of thing with bigger head dresses which at least wasn't horribly worse. Somewhere this happened which I'm convinced was taken directly from Nazi Jewish propaganda and recolored with a feather added on: Then this: Alongside versions of the modern I'm preaching to the choir here but Christ, just let it go guys.

Inspector_666 posted:Also honestly I'm pretty obsessed with baseball and when the Yankees post photos of the team out doing stuff I struggle to ID some guys out of uniform too. It's funny because out of everything other than basketball, or soccer I suppose, baseball should have the most facial recognition in theory. They wear hats, or helmets that usually don't cover their faces (those new cheek guard versions aside). NFL players have facemasks, a lot of hockey players have visors and those helmets seem to cover a little more area. It ought to be relatively easy to pick out baseball guys in the wild as long as you pay attention but I have trouble with it too.

So nowadays all MLBAM does is crap out an RBI Baseball game every other year and operate like a half-dozen websites. Ah thanks, I didn't realize they'd sold it all off. I just remember being surprised at exactly how many things they used to do when I first saw it a couple of years ago.
