Question for the cooks in the thread:

So I'm trying to eat healthier and while I'm not vegan I'm very very close to it. But I've noticed a lot of vegans do this thing where they "fry in water" instead of oil. (Meaning they put water in the pan instead of a teaspoon of spoon when a recipe calls for it. I know oil adds calories--yummy delicious calories--but is there any real benefit to cooking in water or is it vegan quackery?

fat is good for you mostly. dont listen to people. im not even a low carb guy its just totally fine to eat fats. i would not recommend cooking with olive oil (regular or "light" is ok but still not my favorite) because it smokes at a very low temperature and produces some compounds that don't taste good and arent fantastic for you. extra virgin i would never personally heat directly but i love tossing it w pasta or using it in dressings etc.

the water frying thing seems confusing and wrong to me.

im just a cook and not a nutritionist but really the only things that are "bad" for you to eat are sugar and cured meats that have then been cooked at high heat (most breakfast meats, fried spam, etc). and i guess margarine. dont eat that poo poo.

nitrosamines are bad and try not to eat them even though they're everywhere. i think the high heat/cured meat thing is out the window and certain cured fish has a lot of nitrosamine so try not to eat too much of it. i think lox and whitefish are fine bc iirc they're smoked and not cured w nitrites but i have no idea honestly. they might be.

they just showed what looked like gameplay at e3. there are invisible ghost monsters that norman reedus can't see but if he plugs the baby into a special machine attached to his suit the baby can see the ghosts.

Last of us 1 kicked off with a quiet domestic scene that gets horrifically shattered by blind ugly violence. I think it's a fairly common trope. I can think of a few movies off the top of my head that do the same sort of 'Hey everything is nice and fine-- OH CHRIST WHAT THE gently caress'.

I never played last of us 1 and that kind of juxtaposition is an easy device to use clumsily. I'm hoping they didn't introduce the gf character just to kill her off or have Ellie be dramatically forced to murder her or something.

It was really funny when Danielle Riendeau at Waypoint wrote this huge article trashing it for being transphobic and sexualizing a trans character etc and then it turned out the writer of the game is a trans woman.

The game looks really neat.

ok so you're looking around for how to stealth into a spot. There's no giant rear end arrows or hints. Just wander around until you find a sewer grate or a ventilation shaft. Just like the old rear end game. Sometimes you gotta load a save because you fall off a building or trigger the fight you're trying to avoid(or both because FPS and jump puzzles go together like burning and itching).

having no big arrows is good and there are hints

If we're talking fun spy-fi franchises, I personally would like to see another, better attempt at bringing back The Avengers, because the original British TV series loving rules. It won't happen, mind you, because someone else already tried and failed in the 90s, same as with The Wild Wild West (another pretty rad show with a film adaptation that does it no justice, imo), but dammit I can dream

it also wont happen because of the other insanely profitable property called the avengers.

so i loved mario 64 because of how precise and tight its controls for platforming were, along with it having big sandbox levels that you had to revisit, but i wasnt a fan of mario sunshine or mario galaxy. would i enjoy oddysey?

maybe. i dont know tbh. i think it will push a lot of the same buttons as 64 but also i'd always heard good things about galaxy and heard people compare it favorably to 64, even if most people agree sunshine has a load of flaws. i wish games still had demos, by and large, because it's really hard to get a feel for if a game is good or not to you, personally, even with an indepth lp or something like that. there's no substitute for just giving something a try, and it's a shame that's so hard to do outside of abusing the steam refund window

VPW2 is the best but you would also need to buy an adapter. When I was a kid I printed out one of IceMaster's guides and edited all the characters into accuracy by hand. That was a fun thing to do back when time had no meaning.

Still, get No Mercy. Everyone remembers World Tour and Revenge really fondly because they've forgotten finishers were meaningless in those games and you had to jackknife someone four times to get a pin and it was incredibly annoying.

I liked how Glacier was insanely overpowered and had a finisher that was like 20 frames so you could spam five Cryonic Kicks every time you had a flashing special meter
