Jackie Chan and Rocky 3 (as a movie) existing in the Karate Kid universe weirds me out.

Loved the show, definitely want them to grab Jaden and Chan to show them how much better kung fu is as opposed to their flawed karate teachings.

I think the Rocky 3 thing was mentioned specifically as a little in joke sort of thing, as "You're the Best" was originally written for Rocky 3 but then used as the song for Karate Kid

And Karate Kid was directed by Rockys director and had the same composer and was hugely inspired by it. Just a good little in joke along with Chan being mentioned.

Also just rewatched Karate Kid, and it's awesome at how well this show understands the characters. Daniel was always a piece of poo poo, Johnny was always a dumb easily led character, and they are both just *so close* to being good guys but are missing the pieces to realize how. The show just really gets it.

Also, can we get Walton Goggins in this show?

So, uh, does Johnny love Iron Eagle because Reggie reminds him so much of his Cobra Kai teammate?

Man that scene was great but as hard of a life dude lives, I can't believe he never looked at internet porn.

Also, I don't see how we debate if KK3 happens in this universe when Daniel literally does the kata he learns in KK3 at the end of Ep. 5

He immediately made me mad when he did that. I've always hated his stupid kata.

Also hilarious that in the Karate kid universe, Miyagi's family literally invented karate.

Which also means that Dre needs to just come and school everyone.

It is a reference to the first movie because it happened almost exactly the same way there too, just with Daniel winning instead of Johnny. Both Cobra Kai guys targeted the weak spot with a cheap blow and got a warning for it, but Miguel didn't run face first into the most telegraphed front kick imaginable.

It's not cheap at all, really, that's how *every* trained fighter fights; targeting a weakness (as long as you're not trying to permanently injure them). Miyagi just taught Daniel some dumb crap about honor nonsense, and Kreese and Hawk were dicks for creating the weaknesses in the first place. Hell, even honorable Rocky worked by using someone breaking their hand on his face.

Another reason why Cobra Kai is the best karate.

I think he pulled on it both because he was angry and as a test because he was all like "I figured out what to do" after.

Well that's good to know, the narrative in the discussion was that YT was the last stop. I swear I saw that Netflix passed on it. So why did it still have such a low budget then?

They bid, just not that much. Netflix bid on it as something that would just pop up randomly and be third tier advertised like Trailer Park Boys Season 52, Youtube bid on it as their premiere show, which is still not that hugely budgeted.

Robby also looks like a guest star love interest on a 90s sitcom.

from what I gather they don't even explain why the Jackie Chan Kung Fu China is still called Karate Kid since I didnt watch it. I feel like this show could address that without being preachy. Hell have Jackie Chan show up

It was going to be called Kung Fu Kid, but marketing tested better with the Karate Kid so they kept the name and had a few throwaway lines about karate in it.

Its also the second best Karate Kid movie and way better than it has a right to be.

They converted them by just offering what were the apartments up for sale and adding an association.
