Had a great bug/oversight happen to me.

Endgame, after Ashen May. I am in the palace district and want to go to Wild Mare to rest. On my way here I am ambushed by Woedica Agents. Don't care, run away successfully. Teleported back to palace district. Go to Wild Mare again. The same thing happens. I run away. Then again. And again. As far as I can tell I am stuck forever till I fight those guys.

Edit: going to Periki Overlook first helped.

You did a super job wrapping things up! And I'm not just saying that because I have to!

Ha, I guess they didn't plan on people running away from that. Does Izzia unlock even if you just encounter them, or do you need to loot the note off them that mentions her?

I didn't fight them in the end - or rather didn't finish the fight cause I was on my way to winning the game and wanted to leave some content for the inevitable turn-based playthrough - and don't know anything about Izzia. I also failed Religion check to identify them even though when you get in combat you can see they're Woedica agents.

How feasible is POTD on an all companion party anyway? I figure most of the buildomancy online is overdramatic about how useless some of them are (especially given how many of them seem to literally not care about making builds that focus on the actual meat of the game, i.e. levels 10-16)

Iím rocking with my PC (Herald), Edťr (Fighter/Rogue), Pallegina (Fighter/Paladin), Ydwin (fighter/Rogue) and Aloth (pure Wizard) on POTD. The difficultyís just right although Iíd imagine those are some of the stronger characters.

I just picked PoE2 up and was going through the very starting area, where Berath gives you the choice to server her or go to the Wheel. gently caress it, I thought, and chose the Wheel.

Two screens of exposition later and the game crashed. I figure it was the game just giving me the finger for being dumb.

Without god challenges, iron man and level scaling? Absolutely. I think most people in this thread have beaten the game on potd including myself without using custom companions (and Iím not very good). You can still afford to make a lot of mistakes on your build and in combat.

E: are there people somewhere saying you canít do potd with the regular companions?

Specifically I got the impression that there was a consensus that multiclass Xoti and Serafen are borderline useless, ditto Fassina in general due to how bad Specialist Mages are supposedly

They're not useless even if you multi them. I like Xoti as a single class priest but that's mostly because the level 8 and 9 Priest spells have some nice options.

But you can spec the companions with any class combos and do fine with them.

It's not like it's a linear game with increasing challenges. Maybe some party composition will make it much harder to kill megabosses without DLC items and looting a lot of places before you go there. But when we talk about completion - you can get to the end without fighting anyone really big. In last two story locations there are fights against relatively weak opponents if you can talk your way through it.

Don't worry about an optimal party. Even if you play on PotD you have a lot of freedom in your choices. And what the point of playing high difficulty if you want someone to tell you how to play it?

I made a custom Wizard/Paladin for PotD and she wasn't that useful. I chose the kind of wizard who couldn't do many spells I liked like Fireball. She was somewhat effective healer and aura helped but she didn't do much in terms of actual combat. Xoti in her place would be much more effective. I've also made Tekehu Druid/Chanter and while it allows for two unique classes with free spells for both of them - he turned out to be very weak in combat even in decent armor. It would make more sense to turn him plain old Druid and put in the front or Chanter and put in a back.

But, again, it was still manageable.

Is that true? I started as an evoker wizard for my Watcher, but I havenít done much at all yet - just got to the first port and talked to the governor so I wouldnít feel terrible about re-rolling.

One of the Wizard's strongest strengths is its sheer versatility. The subclasses, except for blood mage, limit that pretty significantly with only modest rewards. They're not bad, but I've never liked the feel of any of the specialist classes (in part because some of the specialities' restrictions feel very arbitrary)

Nasgate

Yeah, specialist wizards get pretty restrictive, so if you're not always doing your specialization, your pretty much worse than a regular wizard. That said, you're still a wizard and the game is well balanced, so they're still solid. Though summoning the familiar in TBM sucks.

Evoker is probably the only specialist wizard (other than blood mage, which doesn't lose spell access) that is actually good. I've played one, they do lots of damage.

Specialist wizards are fine really. The penalties are a bit more severe than I'd like but it's not that hard to find 1-2 good spells a level with any of the specializations and then just spam those in most encounters.

Like Fassina loses two really good Wizard schools and that sucks but I still find plenty of solid stuff to use with her so that she doesn't feel underpowered.

My only complaint is that one of the class "features" is kind of awful. The familiar takes a whole turn to summon and makes you spend time moving it away from battle just to get a little bonus. Imo it would've been rad if you got the bonus from any summon.

Be sure and check User's rap sheet they are very naughty!

Monk/priest isn't the worst combo, it's just worse then pure monk or pure cleric, even with Xoti's kinda janky monk subclass.

Serafen's cipher subclass always felt like way more downsides then upsides, and pure barbarian is real good, so if you're aiming for making the NPCs the best they can be mechanically, you probably wanna go pure barbarian.

Fassina's subclass isn't good, and also suffers because, well, Aloth is right there, being better then her.

I've had that complaint about potions too with turn based. It feels rare that I ever want to waste my first turn drinking some potion that gives a small bonus. Like great I can get +30% interrupt chance or something but I gotta waste my whole turn to do that?

At the same time potions would be overpowered if they were a free action so I'm not sure what to do there. Maybe potions should be useable as a once per round free action?

500 Zeus a body.

Going to start POE1 again. Haven't beaten the game since 2015 and never experienced the WM2 content. Despite having upgraded my computer I'm not looking forward to the preponderance of load-screens when backtracking.

Recommended Level Scaling: WM1 Normal, WM2 and Act 3 Higher? Does level scaling affect the bonus dungeon?

POE2 is definitely better gamewise than the first, because I'd rather sail a ship than run a castle that's canonically gets trashed anyway, but I found the OST either lacking or just recycled from the first. Also the larger map means the content is spread much thinner.

Yeah, I feel you. I never want to play my glorious drug-monk anymore. It sucks that my first TB playthrough was with a Wizard because now any standard-action or cast buffs seem decadent, even the incredibly strong ones.

And re: Fassina, I finally found a good way to play up her summoning theme: I made her into a Chanter (Beckoner) / Druid (Ancient.) You don't have to feel bad getting locked out of some very good wizard spells if you're not a wizard!

With specialist wizards, we erred on the side of making the specialists have severe drawbacks because A/D&D specialist wizards are usually absurdly superior to generalists. We made a few buffs to them over time, but they're still a bit underpowered.

You get to move last in the turn order, afaik. Meaning, if youíve got a rogue up against a fresh dude, you can delay your turn to give the mage a chance to apply an effect giving you sneak attack. The dude goes before you, but itís all a calculation.

Honestly, I still feel like they're pretty fun for me personally. Being so restricted has forced me to use things other than the unique Iron Clasped Grimoire spells.

Well, an IDF that had no qualms about killing her. And what was the point of the whole "they made me assassinate a leader in cold blood and I really didn't like it" story if you won't get a chance to turn her after the RDC tries to engage in more of the same poo poo on a much bigger scale?

A minor thing but IMO area design is improved in POE2 compared to POE1 as I'm playing through it. POE1 is great but a few of the areas were comically overcrowded. "Russetwood" in the WM1 expansion stands out in my memory, where a bunch of ogres, slavers, vampires, wolves and wizard ghosts were just standing around staring at each other in a football field sized open wilderness area waiting for the player character to arrive. Going with a larger number of smaller, focused areas spread across the various islands is an improvement. In comparison Baldur's Gate 1 chose to have large number of large, mostly empty areas, which in retrospect was very tedious to play through.

Oof. Trying to take down Dorudongdongdu at the moment and I've wiped a few times now after about 30+ minutes.

I want to kill it without having to resort to making mercenaries. After the first couple of wipes I did a bit of googling and there doesn't really seem to be any way of doing this one without having to optimise gear, ability choices or mercenaries so I've gone the route of respeccing my Troubadour with the skeleton summon chant for fodder.

Things start to go to completely to poo poo after he starts using his magnetic pull attack so I'm going to start experimenting with ways to avoid it tomorrow. I've got the belt and the helm that give immunity to push/pull for two characters and I should be able to make my other characters untargetable by using the Rogue fart cloud on Eder/Ydwin and Arkemyr's Spastic Colon on Aloth. So long as I can keep my resources up with Ancestors memory there shouldn't be any issues, unless it is has more surprises at near death. Withdraw scrolls were another possibility that sprung to mind but (a) the fight's already long enough (b) I don't want it to reset Hel Hyraf's fury.

It was a massive dick move giving it the ability to heal itself.

see here's the thing from the opposite perspective, everyone has a handful of people in the world who they trust tremendously and you'd go all in for them if it was ever necessary. it's not really the kind of scope of relationship you can develop over what three months or even a couple years or however long your in-game deadfire campaign lasts, but it's not an impossible scenario. maybe with this specific character sure, but if you were bros with someone like eder or aloth since poe1 they should be like "hell yeah brah let's ruin this poo poo starting at the feet and working our way up to the head"

It's all about the characters as individuals though. Sure Aloth the sub will do whatever Watcher Dom wants him to. And Eder sees you as the only consistent power in his life. But of your close friends, do you actually have any that you'd be willing to defect from your country and abandon all of your other friends and family for? Because that's what op wants Maia to do.
