You get to totally remake your character. I assume no loot gets carried over because that would make no sense from a gameplay perspective. Assume all your stuff got charitably donated or sold off to start the game.

Honestly I'm not a fan of the new main theme. Like, you have a game that is about "you are god-chasers and you get to sail around fantasy versions of Polynesia, Indonesia, Aleut Islands" but the music is still just toot toot trumpety orchestral. AssCreed Black Flag gets me more pumped than that with its main theme and that's even the total wrong part of the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNREuwdJCw0&t=64s

Hieronymous Alloy posted:Really? I thought CR's audience was tabletop gamers? Or is it like cooking shows where nobody who watches them actually ever cooks anymore It's this, the majority of Critical Role's audience have never picked up a d20. I'm pretty sure because I'm a big baby my strategy will be to play on Veteran difficulty with absolutely zero content scaling. -- I'm having real trouble deciding if I want to multiclass my companions or not. I'm going Monk/Cipher and there's a lot of companions that have Cipher as an option too. I'm leaning towards MULTICLASS EVERYONE just because. So far, thoughts: Eder: Gets to be his FighterRogue swashbuckling self. Aloth: maybe got buff and will be a Battlemage with the weapon-summoning spells, but it's tempting to stay a pure wizard. Maia: I honestly don't know. If multiclassed will probably be with Rogue so I can set her on an easy autopilot AI. Pallegina: Stays either full Paladin or Paladin/Chanter. Serafen: Look, obviously I have to play around with his wild magic poo poo so he gets the multiclass treatment even if it sucks. Tekehu: Will actually probably be a pure druid? I dunno if Druid/Chanter is really worth it. Xoti: Almost certainly a full Priest, only room for one punchmaster here and it is me. Fassina: If Aloth goes Battlemage I guess Fassina can be a pure mage. Konstanten: This guy actually probably gets to be a full Chanter? I wanna see them high level songs. Rekke: I don't really want to share my monk-ness so I guess he gets to be a full Fighter or maybe the Barbarian multiclass. Ydwin: Feel pretty comfortable multiclassing this weirdo as a backline Cipher/Rogue. I feel like this setup leaves me maybe with too many melee frontliners and not enough people hanging in the back lines, but the landscapes are more open and less chokepointy in this game so I don't know how relevant that will be. Eddain posted:That lvl 1 Cipher ability where you Charm people is outrageously strong. If all enemies are dead and the last guy is still Charmed you can freely force-Attack him to death. I don't believe you get EXP if he dies while green, so you have to wait for the Charm to wear off to deal the killing blow. You don't get XP for killing things at all, in that sense. Every enemy of a certain type you kill adds its info to the bestiary, and that gives you XP (the more you kill, the more the bestiary is filled) but if you've killed 20 brine imps then killing another 20 won't give you anything more. I just completed tutorial island on Veteran and am enjoying myself, though the combat difficulty is a little mixed. Here's hoping I can keep it up as things get more complex. Serafen is cool and his voice acting is top notch.

Shattered Pillar Monk / Soulblade Cipher is cool but that's mostly because you get to build up focus with Swift Strikes and then just totally annihilate a dude with 50 damage five seconds into a fight. As long as you take stuff that seems good and take into account your resource limitations it's hard to go too wrong. If you're ever in doubt about a companion multiclass just pick the obvious single class. Like I made Serafen his Barb/Ciph multiclass because I wanted to play around with it, but I made Aloth a straight wizard because I didn't want to micromanage his skinny rear end.

I've also been hitting up most of the areas of Neketaka (no Old City or "very obviously dungeon" areas though) and I gotta say that my attitude of being terse and/or rude to any gods I meet seems like the right one, especially after that animancy sidequest. I settle for a lot of [Stoic]"Say nothing." to them but I'd really like to just say "gently caress you god" any time they let me, because like all of these guys are jerks.

Fun things about the 'feuding families' sidequest chain (no real spoilers): Resolving things peacefully is mututally exclusive with doing the extra quest for either side - or at the very least, turning in that extra quest. Basically, completing one will fail the others. I tried to see what happens if, after the peaceful ending, you raid the Bardatto Vault. The answer is - not much, there's not even any good loot there and I assume there's a sidequest later that opens more of it up if you aren't a dumbass. If you go back up nobody is hostile until you go back to the matriarch and she's all "Did you seriously come back just to gloat" and then the whole house goes hostile on you. Anyway do the peaceful ending, reporting back to the family heads afterwards doesn't show up as a thing to do in your quest log, but if you do it they'll each give you a really neato weapon. Not bad for a quest chain you can do with zero combat.

Someone tell me how to kill this giant grub. On veteran, I went in with a suboptimal party of: Me, ShatteredPillar/Soulblade Eder, Warrior/Rogue Tekehu, Druid, has spiritshift abilities and some heals and AoEs like returning storm Pallegina, Paladin/Chanter specced for max sunshooting Maia, Ranger, gun-specced Everyone level 8. Maybe 9. I felt like I didn't have the DPS to take down the giant fast enough, but I also am not fast enough to take down the smaller grubs and then the grubling nests. I handled everything else in the zone except that hilarious superzombie ambush that I just stole the loot for and then ran the gently caress away from. Come to think of it, I forgot to summon that adra animat. I've recruited everyone but Fassina (haven't turned in the gloves yet) and Rekke (I have no idea where this person is). I have Xoti as a pure Priest, Aloth as a pure Wizard, Constanten as pure Chanter, Ydwin as full Rogue. Constanten and Ydwin haven't been in the party yet so they're both level 1. bewilderment fucked around with this message at 12:36 on May 10, 2018 |

But I really don't want to give up these dialogs. After that second conversation after you say "i'll be in my bunk" if Maia's in the party she actually says "yeah... me too..." or something along those lines.

Spellcasters at range should probably wear medium armor too. I would've figured you'd bring up Vailian Republics since apparently the way they determine gender is "cannot bear children = is male". Reminds me of sort of how the Qunari were retconned/clarified in Dragon Age Inquisition - they have strict gender roles and expectations, but you have some bit of leeway in figuring yourself out. So Krem is understood by Iron Bull because they 100% conform to being male, but Cassandra makes no sense to them in being a military leader and enjoying romance and flowers and other feminine things.
