Last 2 episodes have ruled. Sometimes actors can be ok. What's really awful is when you have politicians or sports figures come on and the vast majority of sketches are a train wreck of unfunny.

Yes and no. I got that it was intentional, but I needed to listen to the songs again to get the lyrics. Yeah, it seems appropriate rather than pretentious in hindsight. Definitely missed the subtext of his musical selections. Honestly, Glover is pulling off what faux-celebrities like Bieber and Jayden Smith aspire to but few achieve. The last 4 days for Glover is what Kanye thinks he's been doing these last few weeks... I think most of what people hate about Glover is actually because of the obnoxious dickheads who fall all over themselves trying to be his biggest fan. I’ve never really seen him as a try hard and just tune all that poo poo out and enjoy the guy for what he is

That This Is America video is really interesting. Lots of stuff going on there, it's way better than the live performance (which wasn't bad!) I didn't hate the musical act, this isn't a first, but it's pretty rare. Donald has some things to say, and is good at comedy too.

But I agree in this particular case that DG was probably playing on the subtext of the song.

Wow, that was the best episode of SNL in years. Watching Childish Gambino perform "This is America" on SNL as a 35 year old middle class white guy was a real "wtf is going on?" moment for me. It really needs the music video to make it's point. First musical act was solid.
