Keeping in mind that these are "leaks" so this comes with a massive "if this is true" disclaimer, here are two screenshots from the video.

The first is from the official UHD release.

And here's a leak from the restoration.

Which is just a massive improvement in every way. Like, load them up in two separate tabs and flip between them. It's night and day. There are other examples in the video, but I get bailing 10 seconds in. Yikes.

The first star war was a great movie but it doesn't make me want to know what happens next. Like they have a big ceremony to wrap everything up, the good guys won and the bad guys lost. It was purposely made that way. All the trilogies are wonky as hell really.

Harmy showed those shots in his video as well, someone should send this poo poo to James Cameron to remind him what an actual restoration looks like compared to the poo poo he's allowed to be put out there for sale.

Oh I got the shots from Harmy's video. I was responding to someone asking to summarize the Harmy video.

At the same time a lot of what was neat about the original Star Wars was it hinted at this larger world- you find all these weird droids in the sandcrawler, a cantina full of aliens, references to planets we don't see and the bones of a giant serpent in the desert, things like the Emperor and the Jedi are still just words, etc. It's one of the things that made the merchandise go crazy, they could just make toys of all the aliens and any vehicle you saw in the background or whatever. People got curious about the world (and some of the early spin-off stuff is interesting because there just isn't much to go on so they have to draw on general sci-fi concepts.)

The plot was written in a way that had the film not gotten any sequels it would still stand on its own, but Lucas tried to keep the sense that there was a bigger canvas.

Realizing that it's been nearly 23 years since Revenge of the Sith started filming and today, and also 23 years in-universe between Anakin turning into Vader and Vader's unmasking in Return of the Jedi.

So... Anakin should actually look like this under the helmet:

Leia's expression when Grandmaster Sexay Tarkin struts into the squared circle to declare "You may fire when ready" on her home planet of Alderaan.

Suffering quadruple amputation, third degree burns at minimum, and probably severe and permanent lung damage, that implicitly requires an airtight suit and controlled atmosphere just to take off the helmet, might well add up to Vader having been doing well to survive as long as he did.

I almost died today at the hands of the white wolf.
I've been listening to A More Civilized Age's coverage of KOTR 2 and there were several dangling plotlines. I wonder if they even try to pick them back up it's been so long.

Also games have changed a lot since then.
