obi-wan's 'fight' against maul in rebels is ok but i'd have preferred him winning Old Ben Kenobi style rather than being better with a laser sword than the angry guy like, have maul approach a cloaked silhouette and start monologuing, only to slowly realise it's just an empty cloak, before the ground collapses under him into a punji pit (or a baby sarlaac) and a bunch of tusken raiders turn up and shoot him to death meanwhile kenobi is several miles away with a smile of grim satisfaction on his face. i should remember that empty-cloak trick for when i fight vader.

I would have appreciated some foreshadowing of the hyperspace ram by having someone say that the Big Evil ship has no shields because they'd interfere with the hyperspace tracking, which would also explain why nobody does this any other time Nothing else in Tlj seems like that big of a deal

tfa is basically a sequel to revenge of the sith (which sort of makes sense when you think about it, since the movies were released in that order) and in order for the in-universe chronology to make sense they kinda have to skirt around the 'phantom trilogy' that takes place between 6 and 7, because it's not sufficiently different from the real existing 1-3 trilogy to be worth making

the 'twist' that kyle has been listening to Sheev this entire time and thinking it's his granddad - which is sort of what's implied by the whole helmet-worship contrasted with kyle's actions, and the emperor coming back in episode 9 - could lead to some interesting stuff, but i doubt they'd actually have the balls to have anakin show up as a spooky ghost and say 'the republic also sucked, kyle, so don't just join the good guys blindly'.

Palpatine's fighting style in Episode 3 was at least partially constrained by Ian McDarmid not being able to do all that much, so the scenes where he wasn't being body doubled out are pretty basic. So Rey using a basic style, due to being decent at fighting but having never used a lightsaber before, would sort of end up being a natural consequence regardless of their intentions. You'd have to go out of your way to direct Daisy Ridley to try and emulate someone else to avoid looking like Palpatine at least a little.
