It's fanfiction sure, but it's also established canon per Disney. Just like the trash monster in ANH being a powerful force user and rape survivor that only grabbed Luke to baptize him in the force and may have reincarnated into Rey after dying. That is also canon.

That's old cinema. New cinema, like videogames, requires you to get all the DLC to get a coherent story.
