Sorry everyone https://twitter.com/starwarstuff/status/1215058164309164032?s=19 Also its hilarious how they keep having to clarify things after the fact. Like hey, did you know that Kylo is fighting Vader cultists at the start of the movie? That's a thing that's just there.

If nothing else, I guarantee you that Johnson has seen the prequels whereas JJ definitely hasn't. Also, credit to Trevorrow for seemingly trying to follow up on a lot of TLJ. It's funny though how they couldn't just let the story of Reys parents be. Whether it's abandoning her for *reasons* or Kylo killing them, both kinda mean nothing.

At this point I'm more interested in who it is that keeps leaking this stuff.

If anyone was doubting these leaks recently, Trevorrow confirmed that they're real on Twitter.

Who would've thought when people were riding high on THE FORCE AWAKENS that this is where things would end up? A mess of a production with tons of re-shoots, a finished film where the most glowing praise seems to be 'well it wasn't that bad' and ancillary material that is desperately trying to make sense of it all but keeps making things worse. Worst of all the most enduring question after three movies seems to be Yo, is Palpatine loving?

Asgerd posted:Rise of Skywalker is definitely the worst overall movie, but I maintain that Rogue One is where the cracks started to show, and Last Jedi is where the damage became irreparable. Solo is a movie that exists, presumably. Disagree on TLJ because at the very least, Trevorrow's script shows that you can follow on from what TLJ did in a way that's not just walking back every decision you don't like. Not that I'm saying that script is great or even a satisfying end necessarily, but it certainly had better ideas and at the very least attempted to acknowledge the movie that came before it.

TROS is Abrams usual haphazard storytelling and indecision catching up with him. Working for Disney doesn't help and comes with its own set of problems of course, but you can still work within that and pull out something that's good. Plenty of problems in TROS are present in TFA as well, but that whole package is better so it doesn't tend to linger, TROS is a movie that knows its a mess so it tries to paper over it by bombarding you with everything it can on screen so you don't think about it. It's as though at the writing stage they had a whiteboard full of ideas and just used every single one.

Johnson has never said anything about his troubles working with Disney (if he had any) but did mention that he pushed for test screenings and they refused. Despite the horror stories we hear about them, they're a pretty important part of the process. And what a surprise to see people take Boyega's comments and insist they're about Johnson. If he meant Johnson he would've said so. It's pretty clear his remarks are pointed directly at Disney and their system rather than a particular filmmaker.
