OUT MAY 18, 2018

"Sparkle Hard" by Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks (formerly of Pavement) their seventh album overall, is easily my most anticipated album of the year. The Portland, Oregon based band may be best known for their masterful guitar work, insightful/undecipherable/goofy lyrics, and award-winning smiles.

Stephen Malkmus has become my favourite artist of all time. After listening to him and Pavement since the first Pavement remasters came out in 2001 - but especially after seeing Pavement play on the 10th anniversary tour back in 2010 - it all clicked for me and I realized how much of a unique voice that Malkmus has. (I was also astounded at such an astute lyricist also becoming an integral part of my familial glue; several family members caught the Jicks bug and and now we communicate best through Malkmus lyrics...)

I came to know of our Patron Saint of Indie Rock, though, really, through SA and a lot of repeat exposure. I have at least one family member roped in to see his show in Vancouver (Canada) in August too, and already have the lyrics to "Middle America" committed to memory: I will always always to see the Jicks play whilever they're in town. Also, I have never been more motivated to learn and play guitar as the Pavement/Jicks back catalogue, they have some seriously fun tunings!

Pls discuss <3

I hereby declare this to be the best album of 2018. All of the songs are instantly classic and also instantly SM/Jicks. It's a great year to be an indie rock fan :)

My favourite song is "Kite" but they are all really catchy and kickass.

Please allow me to share some choice lyrics from the 2018 AOTY:

"What is money but potential well-being, pressed into a material form?"

"Men are scum, I won't deny. May you be poo poo-faced the day you die. And be successful in all your lies"

"This is a verse about a man who dared to fall head over heels, for a woman who shared similar interests, similar looks, similar taste in similar books..."

"Marry on, children, but be aware, the world doesn't want you anymore."
