I make all of my images in Paint.net.  You need to find plugins for it as it's really bare bones as standard. I still just need to pony up and get a subscription to PS, but the whole concept of paying monthly for software makes me annoyed.  Also, glad this thread got stickied. Keep posting Harolds (or whatever really)!
