Alan Cornell - McCready’s Junkyard, Southaven

McCready was a crazy and nasty son of a bitch, or at least as fast as Alan was concerned. He had experienced the pleasure of his company in the past when he had gone to the junkyard to dispose of old office equipment. The old bastard had forgotten to give him his receipt, then forgotten that he had paid and made him pay again while yelling at him like a rabid raccoon the entire time. The memory of it made Alan scowl. Still he figured that tonight would settle that 'debt' at least. Alan had not been a perfect angel, and of course had trespassed before in his college years. Doing it sober though was a novel change.

What Alan really needed to do was to get used to his new ability. While he had freaked out for a while initially, partly over the fact he was a freak and also because fridges were not cheap to replace, now he was focused on figuring out what he could do. The first thing Alan needed to do was to get used to it, and to see if he could cover his face enough to confuse security cameras. He also needed to get used to making some sort of a weapon, to defend himself when the corps came for him. Alan was sure Nova would gun for him if he got found out, and Lyman Pharma would probably take interest as well.

He had no desire to end up restrained in a lab for either.

Alan walked further away from McCready's hut and down the end where the cars got piled up. There he found one which was not too rusted or disgusting and tried to see if he could absorb it and shape it into some sort of armor, and a weapon.

Trying to use a car to make some armor and a makeshift weapon, projectile ideally in Alan's mind. Technografting [+2] obviously, but I think Clever [+2] could work if you are happy to add it on.

Character Sheet posted:

Mundane Qualities

[+2] Fit - Alan is in okay shape, he is not going to win first place at track or field events any time soon or be drafted to a sports team but he can handle physical exertion more comfortably than many others in IT. Dates are a little easier to get when you aren't ashamed to be seen in a tee.
[+2] IT handyman - While not his favourite job in the world, Alan knows a lot of basic information about a lot of different sorts of computers and electronic devices. He is also familiar with most programs and can use this to piece things together quickly when he needs to. Hates Pear computers.
[+2] Clever - Alan is good with numbers and logic. He did well until college in his STEM subjects, and only a lack of focus and issues with laziness and procrastination let him down. Alan could do well in a number of STEM related fields if he would just apply himself. (This is focused around logical deduction and mathematics)

Super Ability

[+2] Technografting - Alan can absorb almost any kind of machine or electronic device into himself and repurpose it temporarily in some manner related to its original function. Mechanisms too simple or too large cannot be absorbed, and Alan is not eager to experiment with anything with radioactive or toxic elements in it. Alan cannot absorb too many things simultaneously but can discard them as need be. When he is finished with something, it will either be damaged or ruined depending on how dramatic the process of integrating it was.

Drawbacks

[-2] Shortsighted - Alan does not think things through well. Through a combination of naivete and a lack of planning, the results of what he does or says can go very differently to what he expected. There's a reason why he's still dating, and the reason is Alan.
[-2] Addictive personality - Alcohol, drugs and Alan do not mix well. Or rather, they mix too well. Currently Alan is clean, but that could all go downhill very fast if he's not careful.

Game Goals - Alan is an opportunist. He thinks that he means well, and that he is at heart an idealist. What he actually is though may surprise him and others around him. The power and his personality are based around this concept of impulsive action. He is naive and does not think things through, so I anticipate him ruining his life and being forced into crime soon. He personal petty hatred of Nova Tech might become something more, or he might manage to convince himself that he is just a misunderstood vigilante for a while. Sooner or later things will come crashing down.

McCready’s Junkyard, Southaven 0/3 BP

Sure he was heavy, but on the other hand, Alan felt like he could run through a wall like a bulldozer. It started small, just crushing a loose toaster with his hands. He laughed, no, giggled as the thing crumpled like a paper cup. Soon he was trashing another wrecked car, laughing madly. The first day he'd been scared, frightened. But tonight was different, the thrill of sneaking around with the danger and the possibility of discovery mixed with the pure adrenaline rush of being a human wrecking ball. But he could do better. Something with more oomph, more power. There was another car closer to McCready's shack that was not so bad. Sure the wheels were gone and the chassis was a bit rusted but it hadn't been gutted like the wreck he was currently fused with was.

Imagine the power an engine would give him! Alan made his way to the car to do something reckless.

Technografting [+2] again to fuse with the car in better condition and with a working engine, as well as Clever [+2] to help figure out things that he might need, like an exhaust to vent heat and so on.

But we'll mix in Addictive Personality [-2] in. Alan likes feeling powerful and his new powers are probably giving him a massive hit of that right now.

The adrenaline burning through him turned cold hot as he heard McCready yell out. poo poo. He had to get out of here as quickly as he could before the old madman could get a clear look at him or worse, a clear shot! Fortunately even if the old man saw him in the dark he would probably not recognise him given his current form. Alan had that going for him at least, and probably the ability to bulldoze through any chain-link fence. Given how twitchy he felt right now, if McCready did start shooting at him Alan would probably do something rash, and something he would regret later. If he was lucky it would not come to that.

Alan is trying to book it out of the yard before McCready can get a good look or shot at him. However if McCready does start shooting at him, given how tense and high on adrenaline (and whatever an internal combustion engine does for you) he is right now, Alan would probably instinctively respond by trying to throw the nearest heavy and large object at McCready that he could lift and throw.

Technografting [+2] to utilise his current borrowed strength for running, or if it comes to it, hurling something. Fit [+2] will help here as well, as Alan is used to exercise at least.

Alan's blood ran cold as the bullet grazed his shoulder. gently caress. The bastard had shot. Fear and anger ran through him like gasoline to fuel the engine burning in his chest. Alan grabbed the nearest heavy object that he could lift and hurled it McCready while yelling; "gently caress you, you maniac!". Alan did not deliberately intend to kill the old bastard, but he was scared, angry and high on adrenaline and an engine burning in his body. The advantage to a large object would be to either force McCready to dodge, or at least put an object between Alan and the junkyard owner to protect him from another shot. Although he did not really think about it in the moment, there was also a decent chance that McCready would be killed immediately or soon after, from being crushed by whatever large object Alan got his hands on.

Technografting [+2] and Fit [+2] to hurl a car, fridge or whatever large object he can pick up at McCready.

Well there was not much reason to hang around, McCready would either get a good look at him and maybe figure out who he was, or would shoot him. Neither were great options for Alan and he was particularly interested in not being caught and also not being shot again. He fled the scene, waiting until he thought he was out of sight to slough off the wreckage of the car he had absorbed and to get to his car and drive away. Luckily enough he had not been stupid enough to park right next to the junkyard but he sure hoped that he wasn't bleeding from that gunshot wound because otherwise he was probably in trouble.

Leaving the scene as McCready seems disabled. Alan is going to try and make an effort to not get spotted or to bleed everywhere but he's not an experienced criminal so might just mess up badly.

McCready’s Junkyard, Southaven 1/3 BP

Alan was pretty jumpy, but started to relax a bit as things seemed to be safe. Any testimony from McCready would sound like a mad story, some creature made of metal throwing a car at him? Plus he has not parked too far away so he would probably be fine. He just had to make sure he showed up at work, so no one would get too suspicious of him.

So he had a shower, and went to sleep. His dreams were weird and distorted, coloured by his own confused memories. Waking up was hard and he was slow getting into work, but fortunately he was only 10 minutes late. His boss chewed him off for partying on the weekend too hard, and said if he pulled that stunt again he'd get written up. Man was an rear end in a top hat. Alan went to his desk and looked through the ticket queue, seeing what jobs had been assigned to him.

But it was hard to focus, he kept thinking of the thrill that he had felt when he had been superhuman. Once or twice in the morning he had caught himself maybe almost trying to absorb his computer. He just needed to make it through the day...

Alan is just trying to get through the work day without causing trouble or drawing attention to himself. IT Handyman [+2] to do his job but he keeps thinking about last night due to his Addictive Personality [-2]

On the streets, Southaven 2/3 BP

Who the gently caress did they think they were, treating him like trash? He'd kept it in all day but suddenly as he was out, walking from the train station in the evening, the dam burst and Alan felt red hot with anger. They would get theirs. Someday, somehow he would make sure that they showed him the respect he was due. He curled his hand into a fist and clenched it, the tension making his anger feel like fire.

Then he saw it. A nice car parked in the driveway of a nice house. It was a sports car, a model he recognised as well, although Alan could see that the owner had probably gotten it tuned. He looked around. It was dark, no one seemed to be around and he couldn't see a camera in sight that would see the car. The gate was closed, but he could just touch the car...enough contact to absorb it. He didn't really think about what he was going to do after, but he didn't really care right now either.

Alan is going to go for a better ride this time. Technografting [+2] and Shortsighted [-2] at work here in absorbing the car and trying not to be seen, although he has not really considered that it is a pretty risky situation to do it in.

Alan laughed madly as he started running, jumping and just reveling in the sheer sense of physical power he had. It was stupid, he would absolutely get spotted, but Alan did not even care. Who could stop him? If they brought in a helicopter or tank he'd just absorb them as well. Thinking about advanced hardware made him look at Nova Tech. What could he find there?

There was one way to find out.

Another time and Alan might have thought about it more rationally, but he was high on adrenaline and raw horsepower right now. So what if they called the cops? He could just bulldoze through them. People kept saying that Novatech was working on secret projects for the government. Spacetech and advanced robotic weaponry. So Alan did a very literal kind of smash and grab, making his way through the labs, picking up anything that seemed promising and looking out for something to absorb.

Using everything, as Technografting [+2] and Fit [+2] will help him get through any physical barriers, and IT Handyman [+2] and Clever [+2] will help him quickly figure out where they would keep anything valuable or worth absorbing.

Alan did register the fact that he had almost certainly murdered a man, but at this point he was in too deep to back out. He had crossed a line that he could not come back from. His old life was dead. Whatever he found in Novatech had to be good. Something that would make him unstoppable, and something he could sell. The black project was sure to be worth it, so he would go there. But he did not know how to get there...he needed a guide, and a hostage. Surely some fool would be working late, either because they actually enjoyed their work or because they were a poor chump working overtime. Alan checked the guard, wincing at the broken and cooling corpse, but taking the security pass and ID the man had had. Alan had been here once before for that interview, so he went checking in the cafeteria first. If someone was planning to stay late they'd probably be eating around now before getting back to work after all. From there he would just have to explore.

Alan's plan is to look for a researcher or member of staff with enough clearance and importance to take him to the black project, and also to act as a hostage or human shield. Fit [+2] to break open doors, IT Handyman [+2] to know or intuit the work habits of developers and researchers here and Clever [+2] to help him work his way through the building.

Also invoking one of my bonus points here.

Well the subtle route was out. Alan would just have to bulldoze in and hope whatever he found was worth all of this. If not he could pocket some stuff on his way out he guessed, and try to deal with it later. But if he going to human wreckingball his way to the black project then he would have to be fast.

Time to change tact and bulldoze straight for the black project. Same traits as before, IT Handyman, Clever, Fit for a total of [+6] mundane. But also tagging in Technografting [+2] and a drawback, Shortsighted [-2] because he could still approach this more carefully and with a plan instead of going 200% Juggernaut

Also invoking my second bonus points here again.

Alan looked at the device, and considered it. The thing was electronic and it was under a massive amount of security so it was obviously some kind of experiment. He just did not know what. Alan looked around and could not find anything that would indicate exactly what it was that he was looking at and thought for a moment. He couldn't carry this out and he had not seen anything else immediately valuable on the way out so he needed to get something out of this mess. Or else what was the point of throwing his life away?

With that crushing thought, Alan made a choice and hoped it wasn't a mistake. He ejected the car from his body, the body and components ending up as a mangled mess to the side, and tried to absorb the electronic device. Hopefully it wasn't too big to manage...

It's payday, so let's hope this isn't a bust for Alan. IT Handyman, Clever, Fit for a total of [+6] mundane. Technografting [+2] makes obvious sense, but given that he hasn't done enough checking for this Addictive Personality[-2] makes obvious sense because he's rushing to his next hit.

Also invoking both of my bonus points here.

He immediately regretted not picking up the gun from the guards that he had killed, but he would have to improvise for now. The difference in his perception of the world after the enhanced computational power in his body was like night and day. His brain could even fill in for the defects from his vision based on perfect recall of scanning around the room, and he had not even begun to put his new analytical capabilities to the test. Alan did not suddenly gain knowledge he did not have previously, but he could deduce a lot of thing extremely quickly.

Alan knew he had to move quickly, so based on the glimpses of maps he had seen he projected several scenarios in his head.

Firstly, what would the common easiest and most direct point of exits be?
Secondly, how would you counter and entrap them?
Finally, how would he best evade people trying to capture him based off of step two.

His hearing was not better, but his ability to analyse what he did hear was. So Alan worked to make his way out of the building while avoiding capture. If he did encounter someone, hopefully his new intelligence would give him the edge in combat. As an unarmed combatant fighting a heavily armed one, he would need that edge.

Trying to escape the building and evade people moving to capture him. Super Intellect [+4] along with Clever [+2] and Fit [+2]

As he left, Alan made sure to cause as much damage to the surveillance as he could. He would have some time but eventually someone would put together the pieces and realise who had done this, and what they were capable of. Alan needed to leave the city, to make his way somewhere and to figure out how to make this change permanent. Now that his mind had awakened, the thought of having to revert back to his old self was unacceptable. It would be as though you had given a blind person sight for the first time, and then took it away again.

Alan went a few suburbs across, taking a taxi once he was far enough away and found a diner to order food in while he planned his escape. Part of him was curious to see how it would be reported on the nightly news. He had missed the 6PM broadcast, but he would be in time for the 7PM one.

Alan is going to make his way out of town somewhere else for now, especially with a mind to lay low and avoid capture.Super Intellect [+4] along with Clever [+2] seem the best fit. This is also a good chance for you to catch Alan up on the news of other characters if anything has gone on.
