Some people are not made for humble toil; they're made for something greater. On the other hand, when your starting point is pig farming most things count as something greater. Hagen knows, if not from experience, what comfort and luxury are and finds both enticing. Both require money and as far as Hagen's concerned the easiest way to get that is re-distribution. Now, it's not as if little thievery is accepted by the assorted bluenoses of society to begin with but once you got the blood of some bastard count's bastard bailiff in your hands, it's time to find new opportunities elsewhere. Drifting southwards through the Empire for two years it seems that elsewhere is some forsaken hole in the Borderlands.
