I honestly don't know why they insist on this. Is there some sort of contempt for Najimi that he has in the original Japanese, or is it just the translators purposefully doing this?

Like I haven't seen the raw scans, but it bet I know which word they're translating it from, and it just seems like a frankly lazy copout. If they're using "bokenasu", like best little sister komachi does here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwrFwwDdrYc

While "nitwit/halfwit" are still very rude, they would be miles better than... y'know, calling Najimi that. Like even "orokamono" or "manuke" would warrant "moron" or "fool", at most.

Just the translators. Japanese doesn't even have gendered pronouns.

They did this in another manga they worked on and people rightfully gave them poo poo for it. I don't know if they bothered to change it because the manga was not that great when all was said and done and I had no interest to go back and look.

I think they changed translators, the dialogue is a little different than it used to be.

Well, it does (kare/kanojo), but you only really use them when you're being explicit about someone's gender because it's relevant somehow.

Which was not the case, at least in this chapter. Looking at the raws, there is no explicit subject for the sentence they translated to "It's planning something."

The translation in general was not very good this week.

Yeah I thought they'd been using he/she interchangably for Najimi for a while now, I don't know why they've gone back to their old, worse approach. It reeks of some nerd who has decided that 'there is no singular they' is the hill they want to die on.

I actually think they even went back on the previous translation as well!

The first Mixer chapter seems to have been rewritten to get rid of all the problematic junk.
