hey does blender do cloth simulation and paper folding and stuff like that

bc i have a mechanical CAD model that I want to make an exploded animation of except it's got a strip of film in it and I need it to bend and fold and stuff and solidworks does not do soft bodies at all.

it does cloth but idk about folding..

I think you can apply different strengths to different vertices, I guess you could create folds maybs????

Sure. You dont even need cloth or folding for that. If you've got a film strip you just need a curve to define the bend, a film segment with a curve deformer and a replicating array.

when I last used blender seriously it was closed source. it had a completely different control paradigm compared to its contemporaries. you can remap everything to work how you want nowadays though

controls are loving awful but in the end you just get used to it.

lmao at the default lmb action.

idk about awful at all

maya style is terrible like nothing else

but lmb moving the 3d cursor is very weird I agree

lmb should never be select tho and thats where blender is perfect

lmb should be bound to something more useful but rmb for select is extremely cool and good

blender is about as difficult to learn as any other 3d package these days, professional software made to be really specialized is always opaque when you're first learning it, it's optimized to be really fast for experts, not intuitive for beginners.

I installed blender and made a sphere, and then got stuck on the rendering screen and gave up. I'll give it another 20 minutes tomorrow.

tbf i shouldn't be bitching at all. i just end up succumbing to the controls of a program after a while anyway.

though this

is good to know, when i heard people complaining about the controls it was like 8 years ago.

Also the new real time rendering engine looks pretty dope

to get the pixelly effect, render at a smaller resolution then blow it up without any smoothing, i.e. nearest neighbour zoom.

having used ue4 befoer the concept isnt new but is good.. as long as it doesnt take away from cycles at all

I use cycles for the actual decent rendering effects and ue4 etc use tricks (like screen space reflections) which fool the eye but in reality are trash
