the country has 2 "levels" of health insurance, "basic" that everyone has access to (either through income tax, or state sponsored if unemployed), and extra which covers "optional" poo poo like free nasal spray when you get a bad cold. not at all needed but helps a lot in getting better faster/with less pain. generally not a problem but there's edge cases like getting hospitalized and then not having access to or having to pay for expensive pain killers or some poo poo, so the extra insurance is considered mandatory anyway, and it's only 35e/month last week of january 2020, as the corona was about to start stirring poo poo, the centrist prime minister led govt fell apart with the excuse of "i can't work like this" because iirc the left and socdems demanded termination of extra health insurance and rolling it into baseline coverage and this was somehow going to break the entire state budget. everyone expected new elections but somehow the far right managed to form a coalition with the other right, a center, and a retiree party. they've been trying to hang onto power but at least they're not acomplishing much because they waste too much time whining about communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids. these same jokers were in power before. they helped gently caress poo poo up royally in 2004-2008, and then again tried to govern briefly in the 2010s but it never worked out for more than a couple months because their leader is a psycho. since then most people avoid them like a leaky nuclear reactor, but every now and then they still somehow manage to gently caress poo poo up for short periods of time. this one's lasted longer mainly because of corona lockdowns i think, not as many people on the street while there's a literal plague about. with people getting vaxxed tho, wind seems to be turning

spankmeister posted:due to some technicality, German driving licenses issued before 1999 allow them to drive light trucks i drove tractors as a kid while visiting family a couple times, if you can drive a car, tractor is almost exactly like that, but you have the visibility of a guard tower instead of an armored car like in modern cars. also way slow i got my license too late to get free moped and tractor licenses, but everyone who did it early enough was grandfathered in, and even now if you have a car license you only need to do the "safety at work" course to get the tractor category. mopeds were made stricted tho because people did their car license, bought a moped, and fell over in the middle of crossroads too much lol
