I heard it's actually impossible to get a megaopolis or whatever due to some glitch.

It's not impossible but you have to have to play really, really weirdly, like building a bunch of stuff and then immediately bulldozing it. That era's Sim games required you to know weird stuff like Actraiser's "Make sure you build as few paths that create bridges as possible because for some reason, bridges keep you from reaching max population."

sim city is already in god mod. you can create buildings from nothing, make parks rise out of the land, or hurl natural disasters at your cities, even up to a big bowse3r attack.... as long as you don;t cut back on funding.

actraiser 2 definitely sucks and the real sequel to actraiser is Soul Blazer IMO.

i'm not really sure what the spiritual successor is to what actraiser was trying to do, though. minecraft? the town builder in fallout 4? spore? none of those feel like they're the same thing, really.

This thread made me go back and try Actraiser for the first time (I'd obviously been aware of it but never actually played it and Soul Blazer is one of my favorite SNES era games) and holy poo poo what a wonderfully weird hosed up game. I'm surprised the formula hasn't been brought back by some indie steam workshop 90s kid.

The Quintet games are all delightfully weird. Illusion of Gaia is basically a sequel to Soul Blazer and Terranigma is basically a sequel to IoG. Illusion owns, but I'm saving Terranigma, it's like that book you keep on the shelf "for a rainy day"

i forgot there was a sequel, lol

The original has bad controls even by 2000 standards, anything that involves swimming is basically impossible.

Lurdiak: Will they post?

Oh yes. They post. They post, Lurdiak.

i played it and i dont think the gameplay concept was fully developed op, its more style over substance here. only in the final boss does it start to make sense with the concept for sustaining yourself in the air with timed bursts to maintain a combo but that makes doing tricks completely unnecessary outside of initially building meter for that first attack, worst of all all the levels before dont encourage ro provide much of a means for this playstyle until the end anyway. momentum isn't utilised in a way that makes it feel like skateboarding and ramps are more of a nuisance than an opportunity to build score and meter, if there was a more developed trick system and height buildup with the skateboarding aspect emphasized it would give more to do when not hitting the burst button

i think 9/11 came up last time because someone talked about how they had to turn off sonic because their parents were getting annoyed by the music while they watched the news, lol.

i almost watched 9/11 on the news at school but it didn't happen. we had this weird principal who would always lead with this dire sounding "aTTenTION all members of FACulty and STUdent BODy" for all loudspeaker announcements, whether it was "the school newspaper is soliticiting articles" or "i'm sad to report that another one of your classmates has committed suicide" and her announcement about 9/11 was super vague. i was in english class and the teacher was lazy enough that we were already watching the film adaptation of The Scarlet Letter, so we tried to get local news on the TV, but it was a total dead zone.

once i was listening to the chrono cross soundtrack on the bus and stuffed my discman in my backpack, and in one class i started to hear People Imprisoned by Fate distantly in my head, but so clearly i thought i had achieved some kind of eiditic song memory. then the teacher said "where is that music coming from?" and i realized that the music was actually just playing really quietly out of my headphones from my backpack.
