Linus and Alex use a water chiller on threadripper 2 and not only does it work, it actually works surprisingly well.

Replace "about CPUs" with "about anything technical" and that's the reason most of us just dislike him. most people link high subscriber numbers on a tech-related channel the qualities of also being trusted and knowledable content and ... That's frightening.

Yeah but equally if you have a fair idea of what you're talking about you know to at least take specific outlets with a pinch of salt or rely solely on the more enthusiast oriented content like anandtech (used to be?).

Like hell would I take car buying advice from Doug DeMuro or *shudders* Hoovie's Garage, they're he automotive equivalents of Linus and Rossman imo.

I think of Linus as entertainment on tech. If he shows something cool, I'd certainly research it further from somebody who actually knows what they're talking about.

To be fair, the BSA is basically extortion via the power of EULA provisions of dubious legality and enforce-ability. A lot of countries don't have it, because the underlying contract law doesn't support 'do what we say or we'll bankrupt you with legal fees'.

The whole "we've got a stack of licenses kept separate for each workbench" makes sense, but admitting publicly he has a completely wrong license for his remote workers is just throwing meat to the wolves.

Nah, the audit process is the same up here as it is in Freedomland. Dealt with one about 8 months ago. You get the same order to self report, followed by "run this tool", etc.

From what I understand the license agreement gives them the permission to audit you, so if you don't comply with the audit then you are violating the software license and they sue

In some states they've ruled that clickwrap software EULAs are non-binding and generally unenforceable, so it would be really interesting to have someone in those states tell them "rear end in a top hat Software Inc. vs. Joe Q. Public says that your agreement I have to sign is worth less then the toilet paper I use to wipe my rear end, so kindly go gently caress yourselves".

If a company argues the software license is invalid then they lose permission to use the software and end up committing copyright infringement anyway. I'm not a Microsoft apologist but they have this game wrapped up pretty tightly. Almost all companies will roll over and comply with the audit rather than go to court.

Linus has started huffing his own farts since he has the power to hire and fire people. He still has natural easy chemistry with Luke on camera but he gave Luke a sinecure with the floatplane job so now itís Linus and an employee all the time and his inner douche is showing more and more.

The WAN show with Riley was just stilted and awkward with Linus talking over Riley constantly and saying he doesnít understand tech anyway. Riley is very smart to stay part time IMO.

The entire thing on the latest scrapyard wars where Linus begged a computer recycler to let him pick something off the shelf and them telling him theyíre not a retail shop was loving horrible. He went there in person after they hung up on him and then they escorted him from the building. This threadís description of him as a screeching alien is never going to leave my brain, when I watch him fail at normal human behavior.

I'm also a big fan. I like to put his videos on while I'm falling asleep because his voice is soothing and I like hearing about old computers and stuff.

The only thing I don't like about LGR is his limited knowledge of audio equipment. He seems really interested in the stuff but he gets stuff wrong all the time. Also there was the one LGR thrifts episode where he paid like $150 for a POS Technics practice piano that isn't worth its weight in scrap.

Other than that I love his channel.

I think the video fits this thread the best. I mean Bitwit's Chinese guy shtick gets old quick, but it highlights the best parts of the riffed original video.

And it still misses the PSU being put in upside down and the short snippet of the guy trying to remove thermal paste from the underside of the CPU.

I am not saying Linus is not the only one that is bad. I believe you in stating that those other two shows are equally bad if they pay people to make the host look smart while having the a very high and whiny voice that makes blackboard scratching seem like white noise.
