Like hell would I take car buying advice from Doug DeMuro or *shudders* Hoovie's Garage, they're he automotive equivalents of Linus and Rossman imo. I think of Linus as entertainment on tech. If he shows something cool, I'd certainly research it further from somebody who actually knows what they're talking about.

To be fair, the BSA is basically extortion via the power of EULA provisions of dubious legality and enforce-ability. A lot of countries don't have it, because the underlying contract law doesn't support 'do what we say or we'll bankrupt you with legal fees'.

If you could be bothered / had enough money to test the theory, I doubt that a court would agree with Microsoft that running a licensed Windows 10 instance on a VM for the sole use of one employee was unreasonable. But with all these things, the aim is to make the litigation so expensive that people don’t bother.

I love LGR and I think he needs more subscribers. Lots of 90's nostalgia and he's got a great voice that doesn't drawl or screech. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQSIT18bOvg Also just randomly came across the New Screen Savers which I had no idea existed and omg they did a birthday video with a few old cast members from the old show.

If a company argues the software license is invalid then they lose permission to use the software and end up committing copyright infringement anyway. I'm not a Microsoft apologist but they have this game wrapped up pretty tightly. Almost all companies will roll over and comply with the audit rather than go to court.

I need to change the OP cause of recent developments 1) MKBHD is just such an unabashed shameless Elon & Tesla worshipper it's embarassing to remain subbed to him 2) LTT has somehow gotten 100x more obnoxious 3) TechLinked still owns 4) Computer Jesus moving out of his mom's house owns

He still has natural easy chemistry with Luke on camera but he gave Luke a sinecure with the floatplane job so now it’s Linus and an employee all the time and his inner douche is showing more and more. The WAN show with Riley was just stilted and awkward with Linus talking over Riley constantly and saying he doesn’t understand tech anyway. Riley is very smart to stay part time IMO. The entire thing on the latest scrapyard wars where Linus begged a computer recycler to let him pick something off the shelf and them telling him they’re not a retail shop was loving horrible. He went there in person after they hung up on him and then they escorted him from the building. This thread’s description of him as a screeching alien is never going to leave my brain, when I watch him fail at normal human behavior.

The only thing I don't like about LGR is his limited knowledge of audio equipment. He seems really interested in the stuff but he gets stuff wrong all the time. Also there was the one LGR thrifts episode where he paid like $150 for a POS Technics practice piano that isn't worth its weight in scrap. Other than that I love his channel.

Linus's video on the new iPhone is actually really good... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HNnXJMJkY0 ...because it isn't really an iPhone video. It's about what happens on Youtube in the days after a new iPhone announcement, and it's pretty interesting.

I watch all of LTTs videos, but only really enjoyed the WAN show when Luke was on it. Since he’s not really on the WAN slow anymore, I’ve been looking for other channels to check out. GN is pretty cool, and I like the in-depth stuff Digital Foundry goes in to. Not a fan of Marques or Bitwit. Why couldn’t they just keep running The Screen Savers forever
