They make it clear it's sponsored but him just parroting the official talking points make it really difficult to take anything else seriously. It's not like he's a starving little aartist channel and need Samsung's money to survive, either.

They could've just mixed up the returns? I dunno but if they've been using Newegg since 2005 it could be just a screw up.

If GN handles this the way they usually do, they’ve been going back and forth with Newegg for weeks and gave Newegg like 3 outs.

$500 refused return for a sealed box is absolutely unacceptable for a normal consumer.

Well yeah, it probably is a "screw up". I don't think anyone reasonable thinks that newegg is running some sort of scam where they randomly deny some RMAs, refuse to send the product back, and then sell it again. Because that middle part where they won't ship the mobo back to Steve is where absolutely anyone can get their money back by disputing the charges. Heck, even paypal would take your side on that one. If they deny the refund it's the customer's product still.

Like, imagine Jimbo Dumbass followed the hellmans thermal paste gif when building his PC and tried to RMA a hosed mobo at the same time as Steve. Newegg's stock workers get confused and end up looking at Jimbo's motherboard twice while processing RMAs, for both Jimbo and Steve. Then they box it up and send it back to Jimbo.

Then at the end of the day there's a box left on the pile, they scan the label and the computer says this RMA was already processed. The underpaid, overworked restocker looks in the box, sees a sealed unopened mobo, and puts it back into main inventory because he doesn't look at the part where it says "RMA refused, return to customer". That's a totally reasonable set of circumstances and it's newegg's responsibility to make good.

The point is that Newegg is screwing up badly and, rather than fix the screw-up in some halfway fair manner, is choosing to stonewall and gently caress over a customer. And a customer who has spent five digits with them at that.

We had someone in the PC build thread like 2 weeks ago return a board that was DOA, and Newegg said “lol pins are bent gently caress you”.

I know it’s anecdotal, but it doesn’t look good at all for Newegg. On a brand new purchased part, unless there is damage that can ONLY be caused by the customer (and even sometimes then, if the RMA was quick enough) you should just eat it and give the exchange.

Did Newegg ship it back to them? They could at least RMA it through the manufacturer to get a working board assuming the pins are actually unbent.

To be clear, I wasn't trying to say that Newegg isn't a shitshow about returns. Just that what's happened to Steve is unlikely to be some sort of plan or scheme, because it wouldn't work out in Newegg's favor. And whatever really happened, Newegg is still on the hook.

I got screwed (for only $15) when I bought something from a newegg 3rd party a few years ago, which taught me not to buy poo poo from 3rd party there. I've never had a major thing from newegg itself go wrong, but I also haven't bought tech gear in the last 2 years. I've definitely seen enough horror stories to believe that they kinda suck now. Plus they were the ones shoving gigabyte's bomb PSUs into bundle deals.

Personally I wouldn't reject buying things from them outright, but if I had to return an expensive DOA item I'd be doing things like taking pictures of the product before return. (But TBQH that's not a bad idea any time you're returning something, when shipping is involved.)

For me, this is one of those instances where a normal person claiming bad rma would just get a "well, most likely a garbage company, but maybe you did do it and just cover it up". However, in the case of GN, the view is highly skewed in GN's favor. More impressively is, if there is paste on the socket as they claim, that would be a manufacturing defect. But most likely, it wasn't. As said though, bad faith they keep the money while also not sending the product back.

They are mailing it back to them yes.

I’ve seen enough Newegg horror that I’ll only buy stuff from them that has low RMA rate (brackets, cables, cases, etc.

Amazon’s pricing is often competitive with them, and Amazon will take returns on anything at all.

I have no opinion on Newegg having never bought from them, but I have nomtrouble believing that they suck. But Steve seems to heavily imply in the tweet they're actually running a scam and don't just have terrible RMA process and customer support. E.g. "scheme to deny RMAs and keep the product", "literal theff".

That’s not how I parse the thread and the reply tweets from the GN account to some others asking questions. Saying they’re “caught in an RMA loop” after Newegg kept the money and the board, combined with this bit https://twitter.com/GamersNexus/status/1478647165606113283suggests to me that they not only got put in some kind of catch-22 but gave the customer service rep(s) some rope after, and the rep didn’t wise up.

Honestly unless the vendor is some tiny independent repair shop, customers should absolutely feel free to not give a gently caress and fully abuse whatever RMA processes are in place. Same with returns at Costco or whatever. Go for it! Who cares! Getting away with stupid poo poo in the face of corporate commerce is fun and satisfying in equal measure.

Hell yeah, everyone knows that when you steal from a big company the money gets deducted straight out of the CEO's salary. It never gets passed on to other customers, such as by dicking them over for returns of actually defective product!

This is dumb. RMA requests that push their luck and are lucky enough to get away with it aren't the reason Newegg is dicking over customers who RMA faulty hardware. I never suggested you're actively harming the CEO or the company or whatever, either. I'm saying the opposite - its of literally no consequence to anyone if you RMA a piece of hardware just because you bought the wrong thing or hosed up. Push your luck, give it a go, it's fine. Ok but you were replying to someone saying "lie cheat & steal", which is a lot different than returning a product if you bought the wrong thing. Or even using Costco's return policy to its full extent.

Like, one time 20 years ago I went to best buy or circuit city or whatever to buy a zip drive, one of the new 250mb USB2 ones. The only one on the shelf was an opened box that was re-sealed with an official sticker. Inside the box was an old 100mb parallel port drive. I was lucky and got my money back because I opened it while still in the parking lot waiting for someone, and ran back in to yell about it. If I hadn't I'd have been hosed.

That, and a zillion other examples, is I think what AlternateAccount was talking about. Hopefully you agree that is theft and it is not ok to steal, even from big corporations?

^^ we posted at the same time but yes obviously I'm not talking about returning a PS5 but replacing it with a load of bricks in the box first, and I don't think that other poster was either. I think it was more like people trying to RMA the xbox where their kid filled the DVD drive with cream cheese, to which my response is hell yeah RMA it see what happens. But also yeah like if you're gonna fill your car glove box with a million free pencils from ikea then absolutely go for it.

When I worked in bars we'd give out so many free drinks to all our friends because we knew that unsold wet stock would eventually go bad and be thrown out and the cost of all that was priced in, and because we knew the owners were raking it in anyway. This is technically theft, but is also actually a perk of the job.

What I'm saying is it's pretty obvious whether or not it's kosher to steal office supplies (so to speak) from a company depending on the company and product. The online retailers currently selling GPUs for way over MSRP as fast as they can stock them are probably okay to steal office supplies from.

Apropos nothing, the last place I worked had surprisingly crappy office supplies. Despite being BIGTECHCOMPANY they pretty much just had those disposable bic pens in the supply closet and lovely notebooks.
