Tiny Timbs posted:Oh poo poo is THAT what that was? It was driving me crazy how videos kept playing at low res until I manually turned them back up. I thought I was having weird connection issues and I did a lot of troubleshooting on my router. I was assuming they’d computed some sort of “movement figure” for the video and dumped resolution on stuff that’s just mostly static backgrounds, guy in front of a pc etc.

Combat Pretzel posted:Computer chips have been able to determine and control their own power usage envelopes for quite a while now (see AMD's PPT for instance). And it's no rocket science to sense whether there's voltage on specific wires. Because that seems what the adapter does. Yeah, but that’s regulating voltage/amperage within expected ranges. Nothing expects your PSU will ever toss 12v down a connector that should be 5v.

Mr.Radar posted:They didn't even really patch it, either. They just rereleased the same broken version once the controversy had died down. Fortunately a community member figured out the issue and wrote their own patch. It turned out that either they had no texture caching or it was completely broken, and shimming a cache in plus a few other tweaks pretty much fixed the issue. I believe someone also said that there was silliness with parts of the engine pretty much relying on the speed (or lack thereof) of a ps4/xbone hdd to throttle certain processes that let loose on a system with a SATA SSD, or even worse NVME would effectively drown in data.

https://youtube.com/@TheRasteri hasn’t ever said anything dodgy, best I can tell. Spends his time turning pc104 boards that have high clocked relatives of the 486 on them into things like the “weecee” and then designing/building a pc104 sound card for them to make what’s basically a retro pc all-in-one.
