I think the first time I heard about LTT on these forums, it was described as Top Gear but with computers. It's a very accurate description: ambitious but rubbish.

Linus just did a video on affordable VR and never mentioned that you can get a Windows MR headset for like $150 vs $400 for the Rift. Because it's a sponsored video by Oculus lol.

GutBomb posted:...And? It was made clear the whole time that the video was sponsored and while it didn’t tread any new ground it’s always nice to point out that VR doesn’t actually take a computer that costs a ton. The affordable part was the machine not the headset. The video is called "Can you Game in VR on a Budget?" so someone looking to game in VR on a budget would benefit from knowing about this option, which I'm quite certain would've been mentioned if it weren't for the sponsorship. The sponsorship itself is clearly disclosed thankfully but that wouldn't help someone who's not already closely following this stuff. What I'm saying is it's about ethics in tech "journalism"

I don't want to watch someone fumble along trying to build something, I want the cliff notes "here is what I made, here is what I tried and why the super easy fast method fails". I mean cars are tech stuff after all. I'm pretty sure every video is over 30 minutes long but in no way could you describe what they're doing as fumbling. Engineerguy's soda can video is amazing. It's perfectly presented and really eye-opening to see how much thought, skill and technology goes into even such a simple object that we don't think about at all. For some more dry tech stuff, Computerphile has some interesting CS related videos. Most are probably not a big revelation to anyone who studied the subject or even self-taught hacks such as myself, but even then it can be quite fascinating as he often has has guest old-school professors or Brian loving Kernighan on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=de2Hsvxaf8M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KG2M4ttzBnY

Linus is at it again, reviewing a ridiculously cheap AliExpress monitor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47WkAyjxESo You'd think it would be like $50 but no, even if it's $200 Canadian pesos, you can still get a brand name 27" curved monitor for less so it's pretty dumb. https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LC27...ps%2C449&sr=8-8

I think he sperges out a lot, like one video where he was talking about how he uses soap and water to wipe his instead rear end instead of just dry toilet paper like a normal human. If you care that much about cleanliness get a bidet or wipes. . . I'm glad he is advocating for right for repair shops but I fast forward large parts of his videos just because they are kinda boring. I don't find him particularly unreasonable considering the poo poo Apple pulls sometimes, but then I haven't seen his bidet video apparently. But he is pretty much who I was referring to in my previous posts, just listening to him ranting can be tiring. On the other hand, have you tried the guy I linked previously? Do they do anything besides LTT videos? Or are they at a point where it's all self sustained, i.e. just make videos about making youtube videos or the equipment to do it.

Get refurbished HM or Steelcase chairs from liquidators. They'll be around or even below the cost of the gaming nonsense, will easily outlast them, and help maintain good posture. Plus most are available in mesh versions to keep your goon assess cool. I watched the GN video this morning after waking up way too early for some reason. As Steve said, the blindfold tests are fun but not really meaningful. IMO there are a few things to keep in mind:
I got a Steelcase Think earlier this year when it became clear we'll be WFH for the foreseeable future. It took me a week or maybe two to find the settings that work for me, and now I really like it. I might try replacing it with a Leap V2 if they show up, but I haven't seen them locally yet.
