Excellent. I've been hoping for a thread like this for awhile.

I posted this in one of the other threads so: Linus has some tips for Steve on how to make GamersNexus better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uls6aeqXWBM (also actual commentary)

15 year old me used to covet this loving thing thinking I'd one day be able to snap it on to my Athlon64 3400+ and overclock to 4GHz silently.

Instead, 24 year old me ended up dumping like £1000 on a 900D and a sick af EK-based custom loop. I cooled the 2500k on a 240mm rad and the 2 7970s on 2 360mm rads.

There were a couple episodes on LTT of Linus going to the NCIX liquidation auction and reminiscing. Apparently he was their watercooling order guy at some point, so he spends a bunch of time looking through box lots of old lovely fittings/et cetera and going "why did I EVER think anyone was going to buy this" including Reserator tubing.

Yeah TechQuickie is great. A couple little issues here or there, but genuinely informative. Linus apparently also has a channel about just his cats, which is a treat.

Did you actually watch the video? It's a response to a bunch of viewers freaking out at the activation notices and he walks them through how activating doesn't make any sense for temporary demo machines, explains his licensing and shows how he keeps licenses on hand for those machines, they just don't get activated.

It's a clickbait title and sane video, which is the same as most LTT content; it's explaining why and how he wouldn't get sued/he's fine if he gets audited, etc. He's not actually a pirate, it just looks that way to the uninformed.

running a small time lottery for local people is not uncommon or illegal in Canada, 50/50 draws are common at sporting events and community stuff all over (well, pre-pandemic) but it's local and small

that's not what linus is doing

and if he fucks with quebec they will murder his company as an example (Canada has very very heavy strict interprovincial trade laws)

I read the OP and sorry you can't just say that someone is persona non grata without telling me why and expect me to not be curious as hell and ask why.

So, what's wrong with 8-bit guy? I don't watch him very often as there is something that just doesn't grab my interest with his content (even though I like the things he's talking about).

he's a texas CHUD

which was already bad enough

but awhile back he got a prototype IBM computer to work on, very very rare, and proceeded to gently caress it up in pretty much every way possible doing the most absurdly stupid boneheaded basic idiot things like using a dremel to remove case screws instead of just buying a security bit from his local hardware store then deliberately shorted the entire system as "troubleshooting"

then he went "oh well, this one didn't work, I guess I'll get another one and see if that one's in better shape" and proceeded to gently caress up the rest of that set of prototypes too

so politically he wasn't great, then he proved himself super unworthy of the trust and authority people gave him, and his response was to basically go "no gently caress you you're not my dad, trump's my dad" to the community at large

watching him is kind of awkward now because he gets cool video ideas and does cool things but he's proven himself to be a giant loving idiot in every aspect so you can't trust ANYTHING he says or that his work is actually worthwhile

I figured it was probably "Global Affiliate Zone" - had a similar thing happen two years ago. Family friend posting endlessly on social media about his passive income, seemed very MLM-y, so when he made a "contact me" post I thought I'd reach out for kicks. He sent me his link and pestered me a bit afterwards about it... despite him being a family friend and me knowing him since I was an infant, there was literally zero "omg hi it's been so long how are you?" - it was just straight down to business. Essentially what GAZ does is show you how to run an "online business" and they basically fully set it up for you based upon a "product". they say oh, this will work for anything and you don't have to use this product, but everything is made as an example for this product. So you'd be stupid not to just use it for the product it was designed for.

That product? An alkaline water machine called Kangen. The price structure establish a 8-piece piece of pie, and up a given chain everyone gets a different amount of the pie. So in other words the machine is priced way more than it's worth, and it's intended to just pay off people up the commission chain. It's a self-feeding loop of course because to start selling the machine you have to buy a machine. And the more machines you sell, the more pieces of the pie you can get from those eventual sales. It's loving insane.

But no really, it's not a pyramid scheme, Global Affiliate Zone is all about teaching you how to set up your online business! :circlefap:

EDIT: To add that even today, years later, their newsfeed is filled with all kinds of ambiguous posts not about the business or product they sell, but rather why network marketing is so great and totally not a pyramid scheme. Anything that isn't that is decision- or life-affirming bullshit. Sell the lifestyle because the money comes from recruiting, not the product itself... but no really it's not a pyramid scheme guys

Okay I guess a post about those stupid ads for affiliate marketing that run before the YouTube tech idiot I actually want to watch is on topic
