I actually picked this up on the sale on a whim as I felt like it was ARPG time in my life and you know, I'm actually really enjoying this game. I usually burn out hard and fast on this type of game, where the focus is usally on spammy speed builds, but the more measured pace here is entirely my bag as is the 40k setting.

You can definitely rejigger things to make it much more quick paced - My Crusader uses greataxe, assault armor, and greatsword/eviscerator and lots of move speed bonuses to zip around every room and jump back and forth like a D2 Barbarian, stacking crit chance to 1-3 shot champion mobs. It ends up looking sort of like pinball. But I'm at rank 38 now, so its a lot more slow paced at low ranks.

Interesting, I wonder if they altered the XP curve during campaign? When I picked this up on PC release there were definitely times where the story missions were of a high enough rating to need some side mission grinding. Grinding overall is this game's MO, too, in a way that feels different than the typical ARPG. They nailed the feel of the 40k setting and most of the weapons (except plasma weapons, they're distressingly wimpy in aesthetics and actual power), but it hasn't had the staying power that Path of Exile and Grim Dawn have for me. Still don't regret buying it and hope they keep updates coming. I haven't dug into the Dark Eldar missions yet but things like Warzone are just dull.

They did rebalance the XP curve of the campaign. It's because the campaign missions didn't give enough xp for a smooth progression, so they put enough fate rewards into the campaign to let you play enough tarot to make up for it. But because Fate is account wide, it turned out that making new characters and just running through the campaign for the fate was more efficient than playing you actual main. To fix that they had to remove the fate rewards in the campaign, but then also increase the xp the campaign mission give you so don't end up underlevelled. A long chain of adjustments that could have been avoided by either balancing the XP rewards of the campaign properly to start with or not having Fate be the blocker for XP (which they've not also lessened way up on anyway). Just completed the PS4 version's tutorial missions. Its a good actiony game with a lot of unlocks to puzzle through. So far, I've found my Crusader groove with an autopistol+shield combo that rips through everything and stuns whatever gets too close. My 2nd weapon slot is whatever I think might be fun(lasrifle right now looking at chainswords tho). The cover mechanic isn't terribly helpful and the game tends to aim at whatever it feels like but so far that hasn't been an issue. Feels more like a space marine than an Inquisitor tho.

I've been rolling around with a Crusader with a Lasrifle and jump pack. So far I feel like a super guardsman.

Random crashes and completely lost audio until I closed the game in the ps4 dashboard. It crashed on the loot screen but thankfully resumed when I reloaded. Loot progression is weird. It’s blue green purple instead of the familiar green blue purple. Unless my brain is broke. I tried taking on a tank with an auto pistol and chainsword. It did not go well at all. E: I really like the game but it has rough edges that can be fixed. coconono fucked around with this message at 13:59 on Aug 29, 2018 |

double post because gently caress it, I've been enjoying the hell out of this game. The PS4 version could use some patching I haven't even gotten out to the larger galaxy and there's already a ton of stuff to kill. Its like if someone decided to make Alien Shooter but with deeper class mechanics. There's all sorts of stuff to unlock, play with and a lot of freedom to build what works best for you. Its pacing is on the level of trying to solo MMO content so this is not a game you're going to knock out on a 3 day weekend. The story that ties it all together is pretty fun and is Inquisitor as gently caress. Minor quibble about some of the lore presented but that's whatever. Like they use Puresouls and Pariahs interchangably and that's not correct. Its killin stuff that's the draw. There's tons of ways to kill stuff. Each weapon type has its nuances and playstyle. I ended up switching from a heavy bolter to a multimelta because its single target attack lets me move between shots like the regular bolter but hits just as harder than the heavy bolter. The sniping mechanic grew on me once I figured out its a patience alpha strike thing rather than something you bust out in run'n'gun chaotic moment. Even the melee stuff is varied. you get quick stabby little swords to big smashy hammers and everything between. The only thing its really lacking is variety for trap-style gameplay. Needs more combat pets too. So far the only things I still really struggle with are the tanks. Like literal loving tanks with turrets, treads and a shitton of guns. If I get stuck, I die. If I keep mobile, I'll eventually kill the drat thing but its a really hectic battle. Space marines in multiples are a problem too since they're armored and throw down a lot of firepower. But usually I can alpha them one by one because they tend to want to take cover. I really wish there was a way to turn off auto-aim since that seems to be the biggest annoyance. I've had charged plasma/melta attacks suddenly turn 180 and blast an explosive barrel behind me. Even if it did kill a bunch of fools, it didn't kill the one space marine champion I was aiming for.

I was wondering if there was a thread for this. Finished the "Martyr" story missions a week or so ago and have been playing the end-game. I think the biggest weakness the game has (besides various performance issues on my machine) is the weak enemy behaviour. They all kind of act exactly the same, minus maybe the damage type being used, so unless you really care about the difference between a rebel Ogryn and a Black Legion marine (which I sort of do) then its pretty samey.twistedmentat posted:I'm stuck in that all the missions I have involve rescuing and escorting someone, and as soon as they get into a fight, they die instantly. Is there some trick with them? If you mean the missions where you have to rescue 3 groups of guardsmen I've found the trick is to not do them. No, seriously. If there's mines I miss or if there's a Vox Caster then they're all probably going to die. The mission type where you have to rescue a psyker behind a locked door that enemies are shooting I've never had a problem with. rescue the guardsman tips: -keep an eye for mines. use your single target dps ranged and auto aim will find them for you. -On open maps, keep an eye out for flanking attacks. Closed maps are not much an issue. -Don't try to run them individually to their port pad, they do way better in larger groups. -The mission only fails you if you lose all the dudes, I've finished it with one survivor before(thanks mines). I haven't had a perfect rescue yet. The closest I've gotten was doing a 50 rated mission when I was 150 and only lost one dude. I don't mind running them if I'm OP enough but stuff closer to parity, I'm happy just completing the mission and moving on. I've noticed the only real behavior difference between enemies is their willingness to get into cover. Ogryns are more likely to stand in the open and Space Marines are more likely to get into cover(there seems to be a bug where they will just hide in cover you can beat on them without them firing back). Lasgun mobs will always go for cover but autogun and bolter types will standout. If they'd drop the snapto cover mechanic and just give defensive bonuses for just being in proximity of cover that'd get them around a lot of the cover behavior problems.

I don't think it was rescue guardsmen, i think I had to rescue a magos or other high level prisoner. The second enemies showed up they died. Like how the hell am I supposed to protect someone? I'm a lady in a bondage suit with a giant sword.

Oh those you gotta rush to the door where they're being held(if you gently caress around long enough they will die). if you just make towards the port and not try to trigger the super boss that's on the level its pretty easy. But I normally run ranged only so closing range with melee might be the problem.

It’s pretty stable on the PS4 but I can hear my fans working extra hard even though I don’t really see a whole bunch of physics or whatever happening. Overall it feels like going solo on a MMO game. Would like more story content to drop since I gots to know what happens to the Alpha Subject.

The stability/frame rate issues aren't really fixed sadly. With a 6GB 1060 GTX I really don't feel like the frame rate should tank as heavily as it does, especially since I am turning down so many of the effects, so I don't understand what is going on .

It's very good if a little easy. But it captures 40k perfectly and the Mechanicus specifically are incredibly well portrayed. Amazing music, runs well on low spec machines, and the upgrade system is a lot of fun. Nothing like your Secutor (troop buffing tech priest) calling in a bunch of Skitarii, buffing the hell out of them and then deleting half the Necrons off the map.
