After learning how rollback works, I still don't understand how this is even possible in melee, I mean at least in most fighting games you've only got 8 directional inputs without analog, plus a few buttons, so there's actually a pretty limited number of things that can happen. But in smash you've got 2 full analog sticks, and then melee has analog shielding on top of that, how do you predict & simulate future inputs, when it seems like they would be freaking astronomical in number?

You don't like, magically predict them. The input packets you receive from the other player tell you what frame they were sent on. When you get them, you 'roll back' the game state to that frame, simulate how things should have gone, now that you know what their input actually was, jump to the way things should be and proceed from there.

Yeah, the key is that our CPUs are so much faster now that we can really quickly fast forward/rewind without either client really being aware.

How do you get around Nayru's Love? I played a Zelda as Lucas, who I'm not very good at, that would just fight using specials usually that and the Down B. It wasn't really spamming and they'd sprinkle in some other moves, but I don't feel like I was necessarily worse, but The B-special just kept getting me. It comes out fast, it reflects projectiles and has good range. It's pretty frustrating.

Shield is the easiest answer: Nayru is -25 on shield which means it's pretty punishable. Aside from that Nayrus hitbox is mostly horizontal which means you can approach it from above and use say dair or nair. Rope snake is also a good option since it's a big disjoint and thus can't be reflected. Theoretically if your positioning is flawless you should be able to avoid Nayrus range with most of your disjoints but I'm unsure how feasible those would be.

Also reminder that Knight is a projectile and can be reflected with your forward smash but I wouldn't overdo it and risk getting Nayrud in return

That final tidbit completely escaped me. Thanks for the info though. I like using Lucas in Free For All's has he's a bit more chaotic than Ness thanks to PK Ice and some other moves. His PK Thunder 2 also gives him INSANE range. I'm pretty good at getting myself back on stage with it and I was shocked at how far I could fall.

I'm really sick of the new old as gently caress strategy in Elite of "run away constantly and commit to nothing until your opponent attacks." I suppose I'm asking for it playing Robin with his horrible endlag on everything, but it's loving exhausting. They always play on platform stages too, so you can't even approach from above.

I just played a Robin in elite smash who would roll away from me, spamming Arc Fire, even when the book was out of juice, and then jump off stage to charge his electric whatever. So to be honest running away and letting them engage sounds good :v:

Being able to PK Fire your teammate is the thing that balances both of you being able to PK Fire as much as you want.

when people can attack thru their teammates without fear the game turns into a mess of overlapping hitboxes and a lot of strategy just goes out the window because you can freely throw out big moves on top of each other and be basically unapproachable, spam projectiles thru each other, etc.

basically everything interesting about 2v2 happens with team attack turned on, and it's also more fun for casual play because you do stuff like accidentally ganon chokeslam your ally into the blastzone and it's funny

The lack of friendly fire extremely benefits projectile characters like Megaman or ones with large attacks like Ganondorf. It's dandy if you already play those characters, but the playstyle it encourages often results in players running to opposite sides of the stage to continue spamming projectiles. Even if you're winning against this strategy, it isn't amusing to play against.

On the flip side, it's very entertaining hosting or joining a lobby with friendly fire on and pairs come in trying to strategize thinking it's off. I've seen players visibly get angry with each other and either give up or start hitting their teammates out of frustration.

I understand that friendly fire is probably off online so people don't grief each other, but that both doesn't stop griefing and makes teams more barren than it would normally be.

100YrsofAttitude

Hm. I'm certainly not smart enough to think of strategies on the fly like that but it could be worth doing.

I do try to informally team-up with people online, though the hints aren't always received.

I think the best communication I had with a online player was playing cannonball baseball with a K. Rool the other day. Trying to reflect his cannonball back and forth with a bat and his belly and seeing who would lose. We had half a serious match and then did a few just like that.

Idk why people pretend it's a completely illegitimate strategy to space people out. It seems really gate keeper-y to be like "No you play megaman you're bad and you make the game unfun to watch and play."

Any Mii Brawler players here having any luck out there? I'm taking the road paved with tears, but I like "Team Rocket Woman Minion"s style too much to abandon her. Easily the most fun character in the game, despite the downsides. I was rolling around without Feint Jump for a long time before that Brawler youtuber set me straight.

ESAM did a little rundown of the stage and as far as I can tell, it's not really too different from Final Destination in size and blast zone. Surely it'll have to be tournament legal. So many music possibilities!

Granted someone is gonna have to go in there and manually turn off all the ones that aren't allowed on stream and that's... a lot of songs to scroll through

Wait hold on, they changed it to any music on any stage? I thought it was only small battlefield that allowed that

I wouldn't mind a mini Final Destination. The normal stage is too big allowing for ranged moves to dominate but the platforms on Mini-Battlefield can gently caress with certain aerials notably PK Thunder 2.

I wish it was possible to look at other players profiles. In other fighting games, I like being able to see how much other players have played, who they are playing as, and other stats. I just really like it when fighting games keep tracking of stats, and Smash Ultimate has the best stat tracking of any game out there, but it's no fun that you can't share it with anyone.
