Hello friends, this is the Morocco thread, sponsored by Marco Telecom. DEATH TO THE SAHRAWI ARAB DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC!!!!

Morocco is in Africa but doesn't really consider itself African so it's ok.

This is the first time Morocco has qualified for the World Cup in 20 years, so it is a pretty big deal. They also did it in pretty dramatic fashion, going unbeaten against the Ivory Coast, Gabon , and Mali.

They are coached by this impeccable specimen, Herve Renard:

quote:

The squad:
Goalkeepers: Mounir El Kajoui (Numancia), Yassine Bounou (Girona), Ahmad Reda Tagnaouti (Ittihad Tanger)

Defenders: Mehdi Benatia (Juventus), Romain Saiss (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Manuel Da Costa (Basaksehir), Badr Benoun (Raja Casablanca), Nabil Dirar (Fenerbahce), Achraf Hakimi (Real Madrid), Hamza Mendyl (Lille, France)

Midfielders: M'bark Boussoufa (Al Jazira), Karim El Ahmadi (Feyenoord), Youssef Ait Bennasser (Caen), Sofyan Amrabat (Feyenoord), Younes Belhanda (Galatasaray), Faycal Fajr (Getafe), Amine Harit (Schalke)

Forwards: Khalid Boutaib (Malatyaspor), Aziz Bouhaddouz (St. Pauli), Ayoub El Kaabi (Renaissance Berkane), Nordin Amrabat (Leganes), Mehdi Carcela (Standard de Liege), Hakim Ziyech (Ajax)

You might notice some of the names here - Benatia is the big dick of the squad, while almost all of the squad plays overseas.

Morocco have the misfortune to be drawn with Spain and Portugal, along with a pretty competent Iran team, so they'll be getting dicked down well and truly. Come commiserate in this thread!

Herve Renard is pretty good at managing African National Teams and incredibly bad everywhere else. What a strange track record.

I'd favor Morocco to advance if they had Senegal's group, but this is a bad draw for them

And they didnt get the 2026 bid which is good
