Got a really fun commission on the go, and feeling like I have a direction with art for once, which is such a change for me! I've always struggled with bouncing between styles/mediums/subjects, and it's so weird to have a thing! I'm doing a ton of watercolour portraits, and loving them: (That scan really doesn't do it justice)

I’ve considered doing something like that for Wireframe. Do you pick the subject or do they? Edit: Autocorrect Warbird fucked around with this message at 04:48 on Mar 5, 2020 |

Any tips for doing insect wings in water colour, especially against a background? I had a go with a dragonfly and it was hilariously poo poo

Leaving them white, and filling in dots of background colour, mimicking the patterns of the wings also works, but is more fiddly.

When trying to figure out if your design works or not, just try doing a study of an iconic shot with your thing doing the same pose. If it can fit, then you probably did a good job. I'm debating if I did a good job with Gredania's design on a constant basis. (I honestly want to finish both of these but I got commissions first.) Also more Strega. She's becoming something that's INCREDIBLY fun to draw, if only because of the shoulder muscles. So much so that I'm considering a short animation with her and a Dragon Swordsman I commissioned from @dreamsbell on twitter. It's been nice to really, REALLY get back into 3D modelling and feel at home doing it. definitely going to start learning how to do proper sculpting soon, I think, especially once I have to model out the dragon guy and other things.

I’m looking for a cheap electronic solution to writing on the go. What are my best bets, chromebooks? Am I stuck with Google services or can I use Dropbox?

A chrome book, sure. Or you could just hook up a BT keyboard to your phone and type in Word/Docs/Pages/whatever mobile. The cheapness is like $35 in that case.

This is 100% my preferred typing method when I don’t have to reference anything or use multiple apps (most of my writing work is like illustrator+word+one other app). It’s very streamlined, the hotkeys work great and it’s low-distraction.

The main impression I'm getting is that it's beautiful, but the pacing is way off. As in, I literally actually just checked to make sure it was playing full speed. For something focused around a fight it's very slow, lots of long held shots, and I think it'd work better with much quicker shots (like, halving pretty much every shot). I know that's like 'hey, you should take a machete to your big project", but I think it'd feel a lot snappier for it. It works for things like the 'hear them chant my name' [crickets sfx] shot where you want to imply space and emptiness, but I think you'd more effectively sell 'wild violence' with lots of fast shots. Maybe you could cut the ends off some shots and splice them into the middle of others to imply darting around? On those lines, why are the vox sooooo drraaaawwwwn ooouuut? It makes them kinda hard to understand. Similarly, I'd have the cow actually speak for clarity, but I can see the argument against it. Oh, and it needs crowd-noises in the background, I just realised it feels like there's only the two main characters in the whole arena! Some gasps and 'oooh's when the duck gets knocked about especially would help. SFX, too! Are they just not added in yet? The visuals are great, really tasty high-saturation stuff that looks edible without being overwhelming - I especially love the texturework in the backgrounds, gives it proper depth. The 7m flying sequence is really nice, very trippy. The big windup at 9m11 is great, I love the extreme foreshortening, but then the fist itself is just going sideways for like 5 seconds, and it loses any sense of impact. Stuff needs to be happening much more of the time, or you'll lose the viewer. It'd be better if the duck sounded more exhausted when he's talking about the truce, panting for breath. Ha, sorry, I've put all this and it sounds really negative! It's not meant to be, it's a gorgeous piece that's clearly had a lot of love put into it, just that (imo, obvs) it's being pulled down by a few things and I think a hard edit would really make it pop! Massive kudos for doing anything with animation, it looks like an insane amount of work to get a finished piece.

Maybe you could cut the ends off some shots and splice them into the middle of others to imply darting around? Don't apologize! Most people are afraid to be real at a big project like this. I tend to err on the side of too long just because I worry it's not readable but if it's lagging I can defeinitely pick up the pace. When you say vox do you mean vfx? The plan was/could still be to get an onlder animator to voice the bull, the mooing was my compromise but I think even if I get a VA I think the moo makes him sound sillier. SFX Are in there/in progress, but it's buried under a lot of the temp music there now. lot of it's stock sounds I'm not super happy with. I had plans to record noises at an arena sports game but that fell through because of every sport being cancelled, So I'm going to have to figure...some kinda solution for that. And everything else I'm taking into good consideration! Thank you for taking the time to write this.

Vox = vocals, yep! Glad it's of help. For crowd noises, if you can find recordings of pre-card boxing/wrestling, you might get some commentary-free sfx. lofi fucked around with this message at 12:55 on Apr 6, 2020 |

Have we got a CG specific thread, or anyone who's good with Blender who could help me work out why the icing on my doughnut is just refusing to render? I was really proud of myself for making a spoon - yes, a whole spoon - all by myself, but somehow I have made the icing invisible, but only when rendering, and Google hasn't helped so far.

It took me two reads before I realized that render wasn't a technique in which one uses a blender to thicken a liquid mixture, like when you whip eggs to stiff peaks.

Is it definitely on the same layer as everything else, and set to render in the object list? That's about all I got for blender.
