You just gotta walk that line between it being a treat and it being an addiction. It's really nice to have one or two on the weekend, maybe after a few beers, but waking up every day and lighting a smoke first thing is wholly hosed

Oh don't get me wrong I'll still prolly smoke cigars and pipes on Sundays or something but yeah I'm overdue to try to drop cigarettes again. E: also godamn man that first smoke of the day when you're addicted af is absolutely amazing. Same goes for that smoke after a meal and the smoke right after fuckin.

it is. it's really cool it's something you can do while doing nothing that makes you look relaxed and unoccupied, and it's an excuse for a small group of people to break off and go have a lower key conversation outside it also shows a casual disregard for long-term consequences (though the coolness of this latter point waxes and wains) I think the anti-smoking campaigns would be more successful if they admitted it's cool, instead of pretending it's not like I don't smoke but it's not a big deal and not something to be a dick about? it's just a decision I made because I've always been reflexively paranoid that the aesthetics and mores of rebellion and counterculture seem to be things that make you sick or gently caress up your life, because, one, it's prescriptivist, which makes no loving sense, but, also, two, it seems awfully convenient for the squares for the troublemakers to be defined by self-destruction? but that's me

Every time I see one of those truth ads or whatever I want a smoke. E: that's not to say they're a bad thing, because they're not. But I'm a smoker so seeing an ad talking about smoking makes me want to smoke. I managed to quit smoking cigarettes by switching to e-cigs but I feel like I spend more energy justifying that habit than I ever had to spend justifying smoking. Just let me have some nicotine drat.

I'm one of those lucky people who can smoke a few here and there and then put them away until the occasion comes up a week or a month later. My wife has to spend a few white knuckled days trying to rid herself of the habit if she takes a puff, though. So now I don't ever smoke.

I'm having a smoke right now I cut back on smoking during the week (ie at work) and it's pretty great. Smoke in the morning on the way to work, smoke when I get home and smoke in the evening. I still let myself go a bit on weekends but thinking about it as an indulgence rather than a necessity as helped a lot. It's cut my consumption by about 50%, which also has the benefit of making each smoke more enjoyable, but ymmv
