Depending on which ship you want to fly* it might make more sense to get two high-cost ones to sell for EC, and then buy the ship you actually want. Though I imagine the combination of the lobi sale and a bunch of people getting 1k lobi all at once are going to do weird things to the market.

usually you want ground or ship equipment over everything else, reason being that those are character bound and cant be traded/bought via the exchange unlike say the lobi ships

Old software gets a bit finicky sometimes. Also check https://www.digitalattackmap.com/ in case anything between you and the server is having a bad day.

The bind-on-acquire lobi gear has some best in slot style stuff too and lobi is the only way to get it. Only a few bits though, the majority is forgettable.

Yeah this. I was locked out of cryptic servers few times last year because my routing goes through trash-tier Level 3 infra that was constantly going down.

After I rebooted, it started working again. v:shobon:v

That's digital attack map is a good tool as well, I'll keep that in mind next time STO has problems.

If I recall correctly it's most expensive to Epic Mk XV upgrade the weapons (particularly rep), then DECS (Deflector, Engines, Core, Shields), with consoles being cheapest... this is a moot point if you're sitting on a bunch of Ultimate Tech Upgrades, but if you're not...

True to a point. Weapons are pretty cheap to get to epic if you can start at mk ii and have a bunch of the omega [quality] upgrades available (two per weapon). Even without the omegas, weapons will generally be cheaper to upgrade to epic if you're starting at mk ii than at mk xii or higher.
If I'm not planning to epic the whole ship, I generally do the tac consoles first - they're cheap to upgrade and give decent benefits for hitting gold. Then weapons, leaving DECS for last. However, if the core gets AMP or S->W when it goes to UR, I'll usually upgrade that far early on.

Rep gear costs like 50% more to raise, yeah. It's one of the reasons that "rep gear comes MkXIII UR" trait from one of the recruitment events was so handy.

If you missed the last chance to stockpile omega fragments to make omega techs forever, you can get ultimate uber tech upgrades for EC currently.

The "Simple Garak" thing from the lobi store comes with 5x ultra epic upgrades and a Keldon ship, and is avail on the exchange because of their lobi sal event.

You buy the simple garak thing on the exchange, open it on your dude, sell the Keldon ship eventually to get most of the money rebated back.

The uber elite upgrades end up costing like 30m ec each that way, but considering how expensive rep/set stuff is to upgrade, and the impossiblity of getting omega techs anymore, it's an attractive option.

They're bound to account. So unless you already have some, they're impossible to get. And next year, unless you want to farm them yourself, you probably won't have that many to use. I'm pretty sure they were only as affordable as they were because of bots farming them, but that's done with now.

There just isn't a lot of ENT stuff in the game in general. I don't know if somebody at Cryptic doesn't like ENT or if they felt (in the days the game was stricter about being set in the post-TNG era) that the ships and tech were too anachronistic for the game, but ENT-inspired material has mostly seeped in here and there, rather than being a major focus. It's trivial to roleplay as someone from TOS, TNG, DS9, or VOY, and even the TOS movies can be done with a modest expenditure, but for ENT all you really have are the uniforms and the NX. Aside from some repurposed audio clips of Scott Bakula, I don't think anyone from the show has even show up in the game.

I think a lot of ENT is just incompatible with 24th-century-and-later Star Trek. The back half of that show was basically just Space Nine Eleven Was Bad, and not done in any way interesting enough to allow for good continuity and character arcs like BSG had.

Consider that for a while they didn't even have Star Trek in the title. It was just Enterprise.

Yeah there was some ENT stuff early on, but the most recent was reusing the Andorian escort design and throwing in the Tellarite cruisercarrier I guess? Vulcan ships look nice but the only one is old as hell and really crappy, and the more recent scout ship is stuck with Disco art direction. :argh:

True, but the Xindi are mostly bit-players who make cameos in one or two missions.

The fourth season did start actually trying to be a prequel series and lay the groundwork for the Earth-Romulan War and the establishment of the Federation, but by then the writing was on the wall and the "Berman era" of Trek was running on its last fumes.

Also, on the subject of ships; while they were canonically supposed to have been retired decades before TOS started, I feel like the devs made the Daedalus-class the TOS-era science ship since they felt that there was no way it would ever get in the game otherwise.

The ENT stuff in season 4 which was Vulcan/Romulan or mirror universe was fantastic. Especially that mirror universe 2 parter which I think might be my favorite star trek tv stuff of all time, followed closely by TOS because gently caress everyone who doesn't like the original.

The master recordings of voyager need to be burnt BTW.

Besides the D'Kyr and the T'Pau classes for Vulcans, the Caitian Atrox and Aspero, and the six (half T5, half T6) Andorian escorts, the sole Tellarite ship is the Pralim Flight Deck Assault Carrier which I understand is pretty good.

This is what I started with and it's pretty effective, and relatively cheap.

If you got the Risian Science Ship it's actually pretty good and has a great trait. Otherwise I'm a fan of the Laeosa Research Warbird, which has a Fleet version.

This one's more up to date, but you'll probably have to pay a lot of attention to the alternative options, unless you're space-rich and wish you weren't. I think the recommended doffs alone will cost close to half a billion ec.

Spore-Infused anomalies from the Somerville Intel Science Vessel is an insane trait and the ship itself isn't bad. They sold it extra cheap via promos a couple times but I didn't bother flying it after I scored the trait.

I'd suggest the Palatine Multi-Mission Reconnaissance Explorer. It has a Lt.Commander tactical seat for torpedo spread 2 and the console has a nice exotic damage passive on top of being a pretty great science clicky. You also get a Commander and Lt. Commander science seat. It's pretty great for a zstore ship. The KDF equivalent is cool looking and Gorn which is just another box checked in the list of why KDF is best DF. The Romulan flavor has a singularity core and singularity cores are awful.

I picked up the Brigid Multi-Mission Surveillance Explorer myself, and it's trait turns Charged Particle Burst into a murder button for groups of ships, but yeah, having flat exotic damage is good too.
