Is there a limit to how many can join? I'm a bit busy at the moment and wouldn't want to steal someone else's place, but if anyone can rock in a character I'll do so a little bit later.

For an MGS pastiche there is a distinct lack of Spies for "Tactical Espionage Action". Never played with GURPS so this may be horribly unbalanced. I can always rework things.

For location I vote Sunshine State. I foresee a lot of proxie wars between them and the Neo-Confederates

Rupert Sebastian Barntale-Sanquith Esq.

In the middle of a sabotage

A young British noble who joined the war via MI6, Rupert aided the French Resistance firstly by infiltrating and destroying many Nazi facilities in Paris, and by seducing his way through the corps of German Officers Wives (And on occasion the Officers themselves).

Away from Paris on a mission when the Bomb dropped, it was impossible to find a handler that either wasn't ash or believed his identity. With expensive habits and tastes built over several years of Parisian high society living, the only way to fund his lifestyle was mercenary work.

Because Rupert likes to take the piss.

Name: The Royal Bandoliers
Logo: A full Royal Crest with Lions and Unicorns and gold filligree, with a set of bandoliers on the shield instead of the harps and lions.

Two things on the side. First, can we mix our backgrounds together, and would it matter?; we have two members of the french resistance; one actual and one nominal. Stands to reason they would know of each other. Is that sort of blending allowed or would it bog things down to much (I can see that, especially if we get a lot fo characters).

Second, will we get a Discord or something at some point or is everything going to happen in thread?

The full GURPS Basic Set has a lot of powers. The thing I love about GURPS is that it's a generic universal system (hence the name) that almost entirely uses real world units of measurement, so you can use it for literally any setting and type of gameplay possible. There's lots of sourcebooks that add more supernatural stuff, including one that's dedicated entirely to superhero fiction.

Full Metal Gear Kookiness when? I needs me a Cyborg Spy.

Bloody bloody bloody hell! One arse end of nowhere with bad weather for another arse end of nowhere with bad weather. And a swampy one at that! At least the particular arse end they were in now had good drinks!

“Is it really too late to pick somewhere with a little sun, chaps?” he looks around desperately, before giving up with an exaggerated sigh. “Very well then. Stiff upper lip and all that. It shall be good being close to some colonials that didn't turn out to be rebellious, eh?” he jokes to the surrounding Americans.

Kamran my good man. What say you and I do a last bit of scouting for a place that sells a decent cup of tea? 30 miles sounds a bit too long of a trek for a morning brew, eh wot?”

Waiting for a response from “Cameron”, Rupert is eager to insert himself into a conversation with the money man.

“Well now I may not be too militarily minded, but as I can see we have two main priorities; Planes and Morale. A good three of our number are experienced pilots and as close as we are to Detroit, we'd be fools not to get a good number of vehicles on the cheap. With a decent air field and a number of starting machines, our starting three could easily begin with training a number of others. Think of it, the first fully mercenary air force! Not to mention, with our central location planes and helicopters are going to be the only way to travel at any speed to our contracts.”

“When it comes to Morale; well whether or not we wanted to end up in the middle of snow blasted nowhere is now out of the question. We're going. But between the smog, snow and the smoggy snow we're going to get very few who are going to be happy about it. As far out as we'll be from Detroit, we'll need some creature comforts to keep ourselves running at tip top shape! A decent barracks, a loaded Gym, a fully kitted mess hall; not one that just serves out slop and gruel. Perhaps a radio tower for decent continent wide reception. Given the pollution I wouldn't say a Hospital is out of the question. A movie theatre and a library may be pushing it... then again perhaps not! It is 30 miles of swampland to civilisation after all. The more self-sufficient we are, the less likely we are to be missing the sunny beaches of The Sunshine State.”

“My god. All we need is some sheep and it would be just like home. Wet boots and everything!”

Surveying the land, Rupert is quick to offer some suggestions.

“I think due to the costs involved, a full hanger or garage is out of the question. We have enough men and women handy with a socket wrench that for our initial forays into the field some good old fashioned elbow grease should be sufficient. A proper runway is out of the question as well, but at least that makes our plane purchases a little bit easier to make!”

“Two Quonset Huts should be sufficient for soldier habitation; we're not going to go hog wild on hiring until we earn a bit of a reputation and contracts start coming a bit quicker."

"A Small Mess Hall gives us everything we need plus some room to grow slowly. Gourmet Rations are non-negotiable for me!"

"An Infirmary is a must, as far away as we are from a large scale hospital. It makes sense to have an Office set up early as well. When it comes to training structures a Kill House is cheap and effective so I don't see the point ins starting any smaller then that. Finally, I'm torn between the Theater and the Sauna. I simply can't decide.”

quote:

Ruperts Plan:
Two Quonset Hut $34000
Dirt Runway $100000
Office $70000
Infirmary $100000
Mess Hall Small $120000
Kill House $80000
Sauna $120000 or Theatre $90000.

$504000 not including the Theatre or Sauna. Theatre keeps it under $600000.

This is around 47 Base Units, again not counting the Theatre or Sauna.

Plus Gourmet Rations.

It looks like if we build the Large Barracks after the Office, we'll save $52500. ($210000 into $157000). Given that a Small Mess is already $60000, plus whatever cost there is for our interim Barracks, we're not saving anything by waiting. But apart from wanting to build the Large Barracks first, I think I'm mostly in favour of Tunicate's plan.

Damanation/Glaedwine bought up a good idea of recruiting in Squads of five. So, each Squad will have One Tank Driver, One Solider, One Demo-man and 2 Factory Workers, giving a decent spread of experience to cost. Except the last Squad which will be totally Tank Drivers for some armoured vehicles.

“Haha! Good man!” Rupert exclaims, instantly perking up. “Tea, civilisation, good company. What more could a man want? I shall however have to ask you a favour. I've never had opportunity to study Farsi before, and a trip like this sounds like just the ticket to start rectifying that. If you are obliging of course.”

Turning toward the rest of the assembled officers, Rupert calls out. “But we shan't forget about any of you, no sir. What can Uncles Kamran and Rupert get you all for gifts all the way from Detroit? No need to be shy. Spices for Jean, to be sure; can't have the Frenchman have a worse pallet then I. ”

Firstly since it is a long journey to and from Detroit, if Kamran is willing getting an hour or two of Farsi training in would be grand.
More importantly, while actually in Detroit Rupert is going to wine and dine and skulk about known hang outs of other mercenary companies, posing as a rich potential client. Let's scope out the competition. IQ is 12, Acting is +1, Voice is +2 and 2 levels of Charisma is +2, for a total of 17.

Responding to a roll of 15

Rupert Sebastian Barntale-Sanquith Esq.

No matter how high quality, well stocked and guarded a place became, one could never quite remove the atmosphere of a good old fashioned Bar. This was not a place where deals were made; that would take time, trust and fine dining. But it was adjacent to deal-making; the best a man in his position could hope for.

“Evening” Rupert inclines his head to a group of three by the door, BBC accent thick. Non-nonchalantly he strolls to the bar, humming a tune. The humming was important, projecting himself into this place; not quite an invasion but definitely something that should not be. It also spoke of brash over-confidence. No one was quite as brash and over-confident as a rich man who has been insulated from the consequences of his actions all of his life, and who else is going to be buying mercenaries? All eyes were on him now, sure as anything. Especially the ones that were looking away.

He internally winces when he eyes the room himself. It hurt his professional instincts to be so obvious when scanning the crowd, but when one is fishing one must provide bait. The bait here; a rich swot from the Empire of Gun Running looking for some chaps capable of a bit of violence. The fish, some slightly drunk soldiering types looking for a job. A fake story here, some questions of capability there and a fresh round of drinks for his hosts at the most opportune times. Desire, pride and drink will tell him everything he needs to know. Rupert need only wait.

At the Range

It's 10:15 at the base; those lucky enough to eat in the canteen have finished clearing up breakfast for the day as those who aren't lucky enough look on with contempt.

BANG “Sweet Jesus!”

Work is just about to begin proper for the day. The Presidential escort is just about ready to begin it's multi day journey, and Michael has finished getting the rest of his compatriots requests for supplies. It's rare for the expatriates to get a taste of home and they've loaded their comrade with reams of lists. He should have plenty of time to go shopping in between overseeing the mineclearers.

BANG “Gahd, drat!”

Coffee is being drank, supplies are being tallied, and Rupert is shooting a shotgun.

BANG “GraAGh-ugh.”

For the third time he's been sent flying a good few feet backwards by the kick of the Winchester. All of his skills at the martial arts don't seem to be doing him any good when the butt keeps ramming him on the chin, or the chest... or the stomach.

“Stupid bloody thing. I've killed people with spoons drat it! A shotgun is just a bigger spoon!”

Grimly, he picks Wicked Wendy back up, itching to try again despite his frustration. Ask him a few days ago and he would have said a gun was a last resort. And even then, someone using anything above a pistol obviously hadn't trained their punches enough. But when a man grabs a shotgun out of another mans hands, and that man gets shredded to bits by a grenade while the first man walks away scott free, that's a sign right there.

“Do not fear the man who has fired a thousand shotguns once. Fear the man who fired one shotgun a thousand times.”

He psyches himself up for another shot, but drops the gun in a huff.

“Come on now Rupey! It's just a bullet wound. Yes, you've never been shot before, and yes you're a bit older, but it doesn't mean you're losing it. It doesn't mean your losing your edge, or becoming weaker or about to go bald!”

Each lame encouragement is said all the more frantically, before he finally stops and slaps himself. Much of his morning has been wasted trying to learn to shoot the miraculous weapon, but it looks like the gut shot did more then he realised. Well, there was only one thing that was going to fix that! Grim but determined, Rupert stalks off, looking for some heavy things in one place that need to be moved to another place.

I think I'm going to save the 5 CP for now, but for the remaining month, Rupert is going to start training up his strength, so he can actually wield Wicked Wendy the Winchester without being knocked flat on his rear end.

We have the Office now so everything should be 25% cheaper.

We Definetly Need To Get;
Command Center (6 units, $400,000, $8000 a month), for the additonal chance of NPC mission success.
Two-Story Barracks (Large) (12 units, $210,000, $100 a month), so we can expand our operation successively and actually feed everyone.
Dirt Runway (30 units, $100,000, $40 a month), because 4 of us are pilots and it's about drat time they got to do pilot things.

We Should Probably Get Now Or Soonish;
Infirmary (4 units, $100,000, $400 a month), because Rupert got shot on the Special Op and our Soliders are dying. Healing is going to be necessary in the future and the extra morale is useful.
Kill House (6 units, $80,000, $400 a month), again to improve the abilities of our soldiers, but also because a good part of PC improvement is how they spend their time on their off hours. A Kill House is going to get our PC's better, faster.
One of the other Morale Buildings; better rolls, better success, more money.
Gourmet Rations, because Rupert is not eating this swill any more.

That's around a million before applying the 25% off. That gives plenty left over to keep us operation for a few months, to pick up some more equipment, some more soliders and a starter plane.
