A lot of AR15's are sold in America. The buyers of these guns are desperate for a """legit""" reason to shoot other humans with them, preferably minorities. I guess shooting paper targets at a range doesn't get their dicks hard any more.

When I'm god-emperor, anyone who uses the phrase "some are more equal than other" or "its a brave new world, innit?" would have to write at least two sides of A4 explaining what they understand those words to mean, and how they are applicable to the current situation. They're the worst kind of thought-terminating cliche. They're not evenly overly-reductive like most cliches, they just say "thing bad" and stop the conversation.

I read that Animal Farm thread, which is infuriating of course, and he said something I see a lot from these types of guys, "I'm not saying capitalism shouldn't have some elements of socialism in there, but..."

I've even seen one guy refer to himself as "capitalist-socialist", which I guess means "Scandinavian" if I had to take a charitable guess?

At the very least it should be required that everyone that quotes those books should've read it first.

People thinking animal farm is pro capitalism rather than a very thinly veiled criticism of stalinism is funny

Well criticizing Stalinism is the same as criticizing socialism, and if you think socialism bad then you must think capitalism good.

There was a study once which concluded that 1984 is the book people most frequently lie about having read.

People just think that socialism is when the government does things, which if you define it expansively enough means you can call Milton Freidman a socialist

the only thing that turns me off more than 1984 comparisons from people who either haven't read or barely remember the book is when somebody insists that Idiocracy was actually extremely insightful and woke, because Donald Trump is stupid

My favourite part of 1984 is when Winston realises he can't ride the trains anymore on account of being too big.

Has there ever been a worse POTUS in fiction? TRUMP is uniquely bad in such a way that if in the early 2010s you wrote a president who did what he did, people would think your writing was exaggerated to the point of being unrealistic and dumb.

Disregarding alien/nazi collaborators from sci-fi, I'd say Billy Bob Thornton in Love Actually or Alan Alda in Canadian Bacon come close
but you'd still be thrown out of any writers room for pitching president asking "how do we sell puerto rico"
