Niwrad posted:Maybe a Yankee fan can chime in but from what I see, none of those guys really project to be top of the rotation guys. And they seem like older prospects which probably wouldn't have made an impact on the MLB roster. Tate is the headliner and I honestly think he was destined for the bullpen. A lot of his prospect status was dependent on staying in the rotation. He's had mediocre stats this year in a pitcher's league, and he's extremely injury prone. His career high of innings pitched since he was drafted is 91.2, and he's already 24 years old. Carroll is a hard throwing lefty who sits in the mid to upper 90s, and can touch triple digits. I don't think he really has a great secondary pitch, though, and he's turning 26 this year. I'm mostly just surprised they didn't try him in the bullpen at all this year since he's had really great stats in AAA and Chasen Shreve sucks. Rogers is not a top 30 prospect. He doesn't have great stuff, either. He's more of a guy that just knows how to pitch to younger hitters. He's put up some great numbers in the minors at every level, but projects as an end of the rotation sort of guy. The comp I've seen for him is Vidal Nuno with a little bit better velocity.

Familia was a salary dump and the Yankees had to pay a tax for getting a trade done within the division. There’s also the fact that it had been reported in the past (and even mentioned in this thread a page or two ago) that Angelos would rather make a worse trade than do anything to help the Yankees. Mike Axisa said that the return is very similar to the one Addison Reed got last year, except it’s a top 10 prospect instead of a top 20 one. Tate has also not really shown the elite upside you would come to expect from someone drafted 4th overall. He’s an alright starting pitching prospect who is already 24 and hasn’t pitched more than 92 innings in a season, and will probably end up in the bullpen or a number 4 starter at the very best.

Gobias Ind. posted:Perhaps I'm undervaluing Drury. Apparently Billy McKinney is going to the Jays too, which makes it feel better to me. I liked Drury even though he hasn’t performed in the sporadic playing time he was given. Including the minor league stats this year, he doubled his walk rate, and has a high xwOBA. He also has really good plate coverage and can hit every zone hard. He also has 4 years of control.

Sydin posted:e. Also it's worth nothing that the Astros are gambling pretty heavily here, since if more info comes out during Osuna's court case next month and/or he's ultimately found guilty, MLB could levy another suspension. This Fangraphs article from last month also says that he could be Jung Ho Kang’ed and won’t be able to get a visa to enter and play in the United States if he is convicted.

Sydin posted:Uh... okay? Why? And for what? Tell me if I'm missing something Yankees fans because as far as I can tell from glancing at bref the Yankees just parted with a solid as hell bullpen piece. I have no idea. It doesn’t really make sense to me unless they’re planning other moves and needed the roster space and/or salary relief (of which he doesn’t provide much).
