motorcycles don't work for most people and most circumstances so they are objectively not "the best" vehicle if we're looking for a way to transport people without vaporizing the ice caps.

Back in my teenage years I had a 50cc 2 stroke scooter with direct injection that managed <2L/100 km (120 mpg) and was plenty good enough to get around town and visit friends in the neighboring villages. Hell without the limiter it would do over 80 km/h.

A bike in the 50+ mpg range is nothing special these days. A yamaha R3 or MT03 which is enough motorcycle for all your needs apart from angering super car drivers will consume less than 4 liters, or 60+ mpg and it's one of the best selling bikes in the western hemisphere. You could chuck that bike full of e-fuel and have better life cycle emissions than any BEV will ever get. Even with Dino juice it will be hard to beat just because making the bike takes so little resources and energy compared to an EV (reflected by the bike costing 80-90 percent less money than a mid range EV and therefore being infinitely more accessible to the non rich).

The whole stick of driving big cars for safety goes completely over my head. The average American is half as likely to be a victim of homicide as a victim of traffic death, yet I bet the sale of bulletproof vests hardly hits 50 percent of the sale of oversized vehicles.

Also the number of deaths and injuries doing the most mundane household tasks absolutely overshadows any motor vehicle deaths in practically every nation, yet we don't un-electrify our houses or stop cooking food on a stove or avoid stairs and 2 story buildings, which are more likely to kill you than a bike.

I rode bikes (the pedal ones and the motorized ones) in the winter for most of my youth and if you survive the cold on a bicycle you'll survive it on a motorbike. Both options beat standing in the cold and waiting for the non arriving bus in my opinion. (rural German bus net can be an absolute poo poo show - like the rest of our public transport)

E: and let's not ignore the major point of a motorcycle: it is fun. Sure you'll curse bad weather but a simple commute on a bike (granted I don't live in a city and don't see traffic at all) has made me happy ever since I first had the opportunity to commute on a bike and I have not heard many people say otherwise yet. It sounds cheesy and what not but turning something you have to do into something you want to do is a major benefit in your limited life time.

iirc a lot of ECUs aren't even built by the auto manufacturer. they're just standard parts bought from suppliers and configured for the application.

like i know for ABS systems at least those are rarely done in-house. the company sends the new car to Bosch and they take it into their lab for a couple of weeks and come back with the implemented system and a cost-per-unit for the parts.
