What if Hitler invented the BMW i3 Subcompact Electric car?
Tesla's can't fully self-drive in one way empty tunnels, imagine knowing Tesla was that far from from any sort of automation in such a controlled and limited environment and think there are anywhere close to ready for FSD.

Once Tesla gets the FSD interface with Neuralink working, it'll be a piece of cake. Just strap your Neuralink-equipped monkey into the driver assist hammock and after a few hours of neural training, the car will read your simian valet's mind and use its senses for hazard detection.

This will only be for forward movement assistance. To get full FSD you’ll need the spatial awareness monkey upgrade kit for $10,000 that will attach a cage to the sides and rear end of the car that will house a Neuralink Simian Detection unit. In order to make sure they don’t get over stimulated each time one detects a car or obstacle it will get sprayed down with a calming banana oxycodone purée. Initial tests are promising but we’re having trouble with the units making false positive detections in order to get more of the purée as they become addicted to the opioids

The construction costs on that thing is enormously expensive. They approved an expansion leg to the football stadium but there is no financial will for it. Musk's Tunnel is stupid, but he's offering a cheap way to tunnel through the caliche that has made this town a non-starter for underground transportation. The problem is I think he's only willing to do it if he can use it for this laughable Tesla commercial.

His tunneling is cheap because he's building tiny tunnels without any walkways, ventilation or emergency exits and really low capacity. That's possible for a system with very short station distances, but not a real solution to cheap "underground transportation".

For what it is (useless), this system seems really expensive.

And I highly doubt a system with 1 driver per 3 passengers maximum is ever going to be all that cheap to operate.

The Strip is a weird exemption to civic planning policy because it's deliberately not designed to service locals except to feed them in and out of work as quickly as possible, and there is no need to concern about income disparity since everything is built for people abandoning all sense of personal austerity that they might have in any other city. It is functionally no different than a giant mining pit or warehouse of cubicles in that it's not intended to be your habitat for more than a few hours.

Which is why the monorail (as nonsensical it is technologically) should have been built to the airport, because it exists to serve tourists. But apparently, lobbying by taxi companies stopped that??

Moving 37 passengers per minute with cars that hold a maximum of three people (& driver), require longer dwell time for people to get in and out compared to trains (because cars, and especially when passengers carry bags etc. like is usual during conventions) and fire code restrictions on the amount of people allowed in stations doesn't really seem doable.

If they manage it, that's not going to be typical throughput but some highly orchestrated operation.

I can't get over how blatantly unfeasible the boring tunnel is. It's the perfect test to entice irredeemable teslabros into painting themselves into a corner. It makes no sense and has zero chance of ever working.

"When radar and vision disagree, which one do you believe?"

Dunno why we spent all that time developing radar in the 1930s then. If only Elon had been around to let us know that a bunch of guys with binoculars on clifftops was as good as, if not better than, radar. Such a genius!

Seriously, I've been at sea on very calm but hazy nights when the horizon hasn't been easy to discern and been caught by the visual trap of thinking the light you're seeing is a small boat close by instead of a big boat far away, and the other way round.

You know what doesn't easily get confused by visual atmospheric conditions and can provide excellent additional information to your purely visual scan? Radar.

I recently got a Subaru. The other day I decided to test out the cruise control, and I can set a speed and distance. It can literally cruise at 70 mph until it gets close enough to another car, then it will match the speed. It has some lane assistance thing, that seems to work pretty good too.

Of course I'm a sane individual, so I'm also not going to press those buttons and just expect the car to do everything for me while I take a nap.

i'm not a genius techno king, but it seems like "which do you believe" would depend on the situation

like, if your camera detects an overpass, but radar tells you it's moving to the right at 15 mph, it's probably a semi trailer and you should not attempt to drive under it
