It took me a little over a year, but this programming baby finally broke the baseline.

jblow's best friend is Casey Muratori A dude who I'm convinced hates computers more than mr blow, but is smart enough to know that making his own language won't solve jack squat. elite_garbage_man fucked around with this message at 19:25 on Sep 17, 2018 |

I like vim, and I like vs studio 2017 since it has cmake support. Clion has it too but the performance is pretty loving bad, and I've had projects get hosed, or switching cmake projects not even work properly. Worse off, the mother fucker straight up freezes and sometimes crashes when loading a medium to large project such as my homebrew Leisure Suit Larry Remastered VR game. I think it has to do with the fact that it generates project info based on your cmake everytime it launches or gets updated, where vs studio doesn't look at your script until it's time to build. I do wish vs had better support for cmake projects within the IDE (like clion), but that probably won't happen. elite_garbage_man fucked around with this message at 19:13 on Sep 24, 2018 |

My favorite feature of infinite scrolling is when you visit another page and then try and hit the back or forward button, it doesn't even have the courtesy of remembering the loving spot on the page you were at.

Did someone say safety critical software? Aka re-inventing the wheel because the std lib or your gitbro's messaging lib violate 200 MISRA rules?

Mocking and fixtures help, but if you don't have those tools then yeah making unit testable things is pretty drat hard. One thing I like about Java is the great mocking libraries available. It blows my mind that poo poo like that isn't anywhere close to what we have for C++. More often than not it ends up being "Just make every function virtual lol" or making interfaces/templates for everything so you can pump in a test specific function.

being the lazy dev that i am, i’d look for a java to sdl library instead since a few modern ports use that for graphics and input.

Our product owners don't make stories so hey, uh there's also no work to prioritize! Sprint planning is basically "hey what are you already working on? Ok try to have that finished by the end of the sprint". Testing? Optional. lol.

ctps: ready to quit the new job senior engineers straight up copy code from other repos then scratch their heads when customers tell us poo poo just broke when one of the repos changes and we push builds out prod code has absolutely no testing yet plays a role in life or death situations managers never say no to customer requests no direct IT or qa support so our team has the luxury of standing up all hardware and doing metrics collection for the customer. none of which is automated every bug that crops up (which there are a lot of) must be fixed and shipped immediately without any testing, even if it’s not critical hey at least the figgies are good
