Didn't he name Hulk Hogan "Hogan" specifically because he wanted him to have an Irish name? Apparently the McMahons are from Galway originally

I thought that was to appeal to the irish market In New York, like he had Morales and I think Putski, but McMahon gon' McMahon. I think OTT are so small and boutique, with no chance for expansion into new markets. We're 1/16th the size of the UK in terms of population. It's amazing we have the scene we do.

Wasn't the call to name him that Vince Sr's?I thought he had that name during his first run there when Blassie managed him and he was a heel.

DVDVR reviewed some early 80's WWF and at one point Hogan cuts a promo on Tony Atlas that makes his later public issues with race seem less surprising. I mean, he was a heel, but yikes.

I'm not saying Hogan isn't a dirty racist, but there's a lot of promos from the 80s by various people where things are said that I find at the very least, horribly racist.

Thinking about this, I guess I mean everyone was a massive racist and he definitely still is.

He tells Atlas all he's good for is shining his shoes and calls him a brown clown. I don't even think he got comeuppance.

FWIW Jordan Devlin's show last night, he started shouting about how he was staying put and going nowhere at the crowd, after his match. I dunno. He seemed pretty certain.

I mean they peaked with the first Hydro show, they got me out there with the promise of doing draculahands with Finn Bálor, seeing Ricochet in person and chanting ‘you suck’ at Kurt Angle

did all of those things, but apart from two standout matches, it really wasn’t that great

e: how the gently caress did they think Lionheart vs. Jackie Polo would be a draw

also, wow! An American finally went over in the Hydro! This is gonna mean great things for *checks notes* James Storm

Yeah I watched that first show ondemand. The best part was when the two lads in the casket match fought into the casket and the crowd started chanting 'Shagging' at them.

Well I didn't really think of it as homophobic, I guess. More like chanting 'X and X up a tree K.I. S. S. I.N. G.' .

edit: thinking about I was probably hopelessly naive.

The February OTT show is about 1500-2500 seats, depending on arrangement.

They're going with:

Shigehiro Irie vs. Ilja Dragunov

Jordan Devlin vs. David Starr

The video is worth a look imo.

WALTER vs. PAC

Irie/Ilja should be great and it'd be great if they could do Irie/WALTER for a good crowd and a promoter who respects Big Shig enough to learn how to pronounce his name.

It is neither! He's one of the first ProJo (now Knucklelocks Gym) graduates and is a lovely golden retriever of a man. Like, he comes out to third wave ska and at one point had a time traveling surfboard?

PROGRESS are trying to turn him heel with this new stable of underused talent and I imagine the haircut was part of that.

No. Most US promotions don't either. It's basically ROH, WWE and potentially AEW.

correct but the US talent pool is more geographically diverse and you're less likely to see the same 15 faces on each roster page.

Can either Rovert or Von Linus explain what dirt OTT have on everyone to be able to have Jushin Thunder Liger and Pete Dunne both booked on the same show? (And I guess being able to do a WWE vs. AEW match in WALTER/PAC)

Gaz-L

I'd honestly bet it's as simple as 'WWE doesn't care about Ireland'. (I doubt NJPW or AEW care that much what their talent does when they don't have shows booked)

I don't know. I think that they have an effective monopoly on Irish wrestling at this point, if you are a name and you want to work Ireland there's nowhere else to go, and it doesn't look like Irish Wrestling can really get higher than the 2300 seat venue they work at their largest. They also don't seem to conflict their dates too much with the UK shows, so they can bring people over to work 2 shows, one for Progress and one for them, or one for Revpro and one for them, increasing the payday without *really* allowing a competitor to prosper.

They'll never be world of sport, they'll never have a tv channel slot. And Joe knows people all over the place, and OTT have a fantastic reputation for the crowd, for the hospitality for wrestlers, for their production, for everything. That's the best take I have on it.

It's something I think about a lot and if anyone knows better than me I'm all ears.
