I have had a lot of cars with sunroofs and I have liked them. If I was 6+ feet tall then they would be a no go for me. The Flex has a sunroof in the front and the "panoramic vista" roof so the middle and rear seats have tinted glass above. It is nice because otherwise it would be a cavernous dungeon back there. The M3 has a sunroof but you can bet your rear end if the E90 had the CF roof option I would never have gotten the sunroof. slothrop posted:I just screenshotted this post and emailed it to myself for when the sunroof on the e36 inevitably does this over summer. My E36 M3 never had a problem with the sunroof. It always worked. So did the E28 5 series I had in high school. Always worked. The other windows were awfully slow to open/close though.

I love when lovely former employers shoot themselves in the foot. Left an incredibly lovely dead-end job in April (industrial printer reseller, company was/is circling the drain following years of mismanagement and existing in a dying industry), they fired me when I turned in my resignation and then tried to have my unemployment claim denied. Found out through the unemployment appeals process that their (stated) reason for firing me was they were concerned I would try to snipe their clients when I left - despite not even knowing what the company I was leaving them for does. Ironically, had they let me leave on good terms (via either working out my notice or at least paying me the balance of my PTO) I could have potentially steered business to them as the guy in charge of IT at a metal fabrication company that uses printers similar to their product line.

There's no cost:durability ratio quite like free:adjust and sharpen once in a while and it'll outlast my fat rear end. YMMV though, I'm sure pimpin' meat buys a bigger backyard than mine I have a reel mower and prefer to use it when I can just because it's quiet, doesn't kick up dust and junk, and honestly not much more effort that just walking behind the power mower. My only beef with it is getting into corners and tight spots, which I usually just finish out with the weed whacker anyway, and the fact that it will not cut anything over about half the reel height, which in my case means the weeds that shoot up 3X faster than the grass. Have to go after those with the weed whacker of a yo-yo (AKA, a variant of a sling blade. MMM-HMM.) I've just come back from 2 weeks camping and the lawn is a loving disaster. Mowed it on high with the battery mower, filled the garden waste bin. I'll do it again a notch lower in a day or 2. The Volvo scared the poo poo out of me on the way home too - driving along fine and a hundred miles from home the wipers come on, check engine light, fuel gauge drops to zero, message pops up "URGENT SERVICE ANTI SKID SYSTEM NOW" Pulled over 5 seconds later, determined we hadn't had a catastrophic fuel leak, turned it off and on again. CEL stayed on, fuel was registering but in the red (should have been 7/8 full) and slowly climbed back to where it should be. I'll pull codes tomorrow but I could have done without that.

It was horrendously expensive to fix because you have to replace the frame and you have to drop the headliner (and seriously gently caress doing that on a 911). If it breaks, you sunroof will be open until you give it a large cash injection.

InitialDave posted:No, but my MG just did. Heard a mild "pop" and smelled coolant on the way home, popped the bonnet and I've got steam, pretty rapid coolant loss, and a chunk of water in the valley. Oil appears uncontaminated, though (I do have some filler cap mayo, but the engine sees lots of short journeys from cold, so not sure I can take that as indicative of anything). Temperature gauge didn't budge, and no pressurisation when I undid the expansion tank cap. That sounds like a popped hose to me. I shall keep my fingers crossed that it is the easiest option.

Decided to have a quick look now, as the water that was in the valley had now dried out. Filling the expansion tank and starting the engine, it's just pissing out around the thermostat, so I'd say it's either the thermostat unit itself or the curved hardpipe that goes next to it. Common failure, car's service history shows it had a new thermostat about 5 years back too. Ordering one from a specialist (they sell OEM ones with additional reinforcement around the normal fracture point) and will see how much of an arse swapping it out is. Used an exhaust gas contamination test, looked ok on that (only tested briefly), so hopefully no headgasket issues.

His record for leaving the top down was 14 months, which is more of an indictment of how little rain Perth gets than anything else. I was chatting on the phone with him about it (I worked for a Mazda dealership at the time) and asked him if he had unzipped the rear window before putting it down. He went silent for a second and went "why would I need to do that?". So that you don't leave an enormous crease in the middle of the soft plastic window and need a replacement is why. Went to a brand new Harbor Freight (opened day before yesterday). They have a $260 cordless impact rated at over 1000 ft/lbs (probably more like 200-250, but still). It's tempting. They didn't have the 90 degree screwdriver thingy I was looking for, but they had a cheap 90 degree ratcheting one ($2.99). Got the gear turned a little on the sunroof motor (couldn't move it much), and the motor came back to life. Thank gently caress. Wasn't looking forward to a rainy weekend with a hole in the roof. It has a very obvious dead spot when you're using it (whirr*stop*whirr*stop*whirr*stop*); it's been kind of that way since I got the car, but it's obviously much worse now. I'm gonna see if I can hit up ebay for a used motor. It looks easy enough to swap without removing the headliner (though the headliner backing is kinda hosed around the sunroof anyway, someone's clearly monkeyed with it before). slidebite posted:Any 911 that is a 996+ without a sunroof is a rare find. Suggestions on products to keep it running right? If it's OEM, it very likely doesn't seal against water (hell mine doesn't even seal against wind noise, in either of the Saturns I've owned). Open it, make sure there's no debris around the 4 drains (1 in each corner). Those are what keep you from getting a bath when it rains. It wouldn't hurt to hit those drains with pipe cleaners and MAYBE shop air if they're not clogged much (if they are, it might blow the drains apart). If it's a GM, it probably has those stupid plastic strainers at the end that are supposed to keep debris out but actually trap debris. Yank/cut them off if you can find them, they're a pain in the dick when they clog up. I need to do that on my car, thankfully all of the body panels just bolt on (including the rear quarters, where each rear corner drain lives).
