(that thread title was too good for me not to use again) With the 2018 NFL season right around the corner, the NFC West appears to be undergoing another power shakeup. Let's quickly take a look at each team. Arizona Cardinals 2017 record: 8-8 OddsShark win total: 5.5 Head coach: Steve Wilks Starting QB: Sam Bradford/Josh Rosen The Cardinals are still a thing, I guess. Josh Rosen might be good? Hey, David Johnson is back! And Larry Fitzgerald is still here! They're clearly in rebuilding mode after Bruce Arians and Carson Palmer retired, with Sam Bradford serving as the bridge QB for about 2-3 weeks before he dies again. Steve Wilks seems like one of those old-school "run the ball and play defense" types who either wins a Super Bowl or gets fired in three years, with absolutely no middle ground. Vegas really doesn't like the Cardinals this year but there's enough talent here to play spoiler most weeks. I like the over on that 5.5 wins, personally. Los Angeles Rams 2017 record: 11-5 OddsShark win total: 10 Head coach: Sean McVay Starting QB: Jared Goff The Rams went from laughingstock to contender overnight thanks to McVay, who exorcised the Jeff Fisher demons and finally brought this offense into the 21st Century. They weren't content to sit on their laurels in the offseason, adding Aqib Talib, Marcus Peters, and Ndamukong Suh to a defense already sporting Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald. On offense, they swapped out Sammy Watkins for Brandin Cooks and still have MVP candidate Todd Gurley. Expectations are high in McVay's second year and the Rams are clear favorites to win the division again, but their Super Bowl chances might hinge on whether Goff takes the leap from capable game manager to legitimate difference-maker. San Francisco 49ers 2017 record: 6-10 OddsShark win total: 8.5 Head coach: Kyle Shanahan Starting QB: Jimmy Garoppolo "Is this the best 6-10 team ever???" was a real thing people were asking after Jimmy G's spicy 5-0 end to the season. The Niners made him their guy and seem like strong candidates to go from worst to first in 2018, but we should probably pump the brakes for a minute. There are still several holes on a roster only two years removed from 2-14 (and started 1-10 before Jimmy stepped in), and they're banking a little hard on veterans coming back from significant injuries (Pierre Garcon's neck, Richard Sherman's Achilles). Still, Jimmy seems like the real deal, and if some of the younger talent plays up to their draft position, the Niners should be in the playoff mix all year. Seattle Seahawks 2017 record: 9-7 OddsShark win total: 8 Head coach: Pete Carroll Starting QB: Russell Wilson How the mighty have fallen. Pour one out for the LOB. The Seahawks are dead. At least that's been the main narrative in an offseason that saw Seattle dismantle its defensive core and replace nearly the entire coaching staff. Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Michael Bennett, and Cliff Avril are all gone, while Earl Thomas is in a contract dispute and Doug Baldwin is missing "a few weeks" of camp with a knee injury. Also Brian Schottenheimer is here, Not great, Bob. Still, let's not completely bury the team yet. I've seen predictions of them losing double digits or even competing for the No. 1 draft pick, which is patently absurd. Not only is Wilson still in his prime, they boosted the running game with Rashaad Penny and finally cast Tom Cable back into the fiery depths of Oakland from whence he came, which should only improve the offensive line by default. Even the defense has more talent than one might assume after all the headliners left, with Bobby Wagner arguably the best MLB in football and some up-and-comers like (noted woman beater) Frank Clark and Shaq Griffin starting to enter their primes. This is not a playoff team, but that 8-win Vegas line is more than fair. Division titles 49ers -- 19 Rams -- 16 Seahawks -- 8 Cardinals -- 3 Super Bowl appearances (winning years in bold) 49ers -- 6 (1981, 1984, 1988, 1989, 1994, 2012) Seahawks -- 3 (2005, 2013, 2014) Rams -- 3 (1979, 1999, 2001) Cardinals -- 1 (2008) Benne fucked around with this message at 02:51 on Aug 1, 2018 |

If Pete Carroll wants to coach two teams at once, who are we to deny him?

Apparently Jim Harbaugh is more insane than we were led to believe and thinks that eating chicken is a civilizational pollution. This makes me think that Harbaugh realized winning that Thanksgiving game would have led to eating white meat and so he intentionally threw the game.
