I admittedly haven't been keeping up with the thread at all, so maybe this got covered and I'm just an idiot, but am I missing something to the waypoint system. I swear it worked at one point, but now it just doesn't. Am I being dumb and overlooking something or is this a problem with my game?

How come the residents of Blackwater keep going to the police and reporting horse theft every time I get on my own horse? In RDO on PS4, for the record.

I wouldn't care, but since when you're wanted you can't use shops, etc., it's pretty annoying.

Edit: also, can we confirm for sure that the carcass duplicate glitch has been fixed? Was going to abuse it just a little, but seems I'm late to the party.

Thanks to hitting level 25 at just the right time and promotions that were giving out gold and maps, there was a point yesterday when I had just done four consecutive treasure maps and had 30 gold and about 500 dollars.

Turns out I'm an old west hipster, cause I immediately went and spent all but 3 dollars and 8 gold bars on the poorest-looking clothes I could--dirty union suit with ropes holding up patched pants, patched up flat cap, rope belt. I got some other poo poo, too, but I was amused at how much I spent on rope to wear and worn out pants, etc.

The discussion is mainly a few pages back, but lately I've been playing a mostly dishonorable Arthur run as I kinda wait for the fabled summer patch/update.

I feel like it sorta mostly makes sense. I still have him being mostly civil and stuff, with some rather notable exceptions (turns out that blind beggar you run into--the actually blind one that gives crazed prophecies--has 15 cents on him), but not too much of that. Overall, it just sorta makes him seem like more of a heel as a person, but not as conniving and just malicious as Micah.

I kinda wanna get more challenges and stuff done in this playthrough, but they really do get to feeling really tedious and tiring and not worth it (though I have a bad habit of never letting that stop me from wasting my time).

I remember from my first playthrough that I'm like, right before the Saint Denis missions that wind up with us in Guarma, I think. The two highlighted story missions are Dutch in St. Denis and Mary-Beth at Shady Belle. Aren't one of these two a point of no return mission? If so, which?

Ps: hoping spoilers aren't a big deal for this anymore but if needed I'll toss em in

Edit: Also, i sorta hope I don't keep having to drop 3 bars of gold to change my honor in RDO. I hate knowing I missed out on any story missions, just because there's so few of them, and when I'm dishonorable I wind up taking ages realigning "manually" just by taking care of my horse, and when I play as a good guy or whatever, I keep getting stuck there regardless of the robberies and murders, etc., because I take care of my pony. Maybe I just suck.

I have no clue if this has been covered or not, but some very minor trader advice: skin snakes if you happen to kill them. The whole snake takes way more space and is worthless to Cripps, but you can cram the skin in your pouch and they'll go for a little. From my own experience, at least.

I mean, it's not worth enough to actually hunt for snakes, but since you run into so many, I figured I'd share what I'd figured out.

Edit: agreed that it'd be nice if they upped the animal spawns just a tad now that more folks have incentive to be hunting. Nothing too drastic, cause it's still not that awful, but it can be a hassle on occasion, especially in a region with a lot of camped players.

Also, yeah, Big Valley or whatever in North West Elizabeth is great for hunting. So is the Heartland overflow. That was the best camp location for hunting so far that Cripps has found for me, cause a Whitetail buck spawns within arrow's reach of my butcher's table, and it spawns a LOT, and is usually Good or Perfect. I filled up my meter at that camp using that one poor unfortunate buck.

Yeah, that wagon--barring its inability to reach me even when I am literally at a main roadway--is sort of a godsend. I won't lie, sometimes I got to the menu > online > free roam [state] to fast travel instead of paying anything or hoofing it, plus I never know when I might have to just hop offline for a while, so the way it works as storage is fantastic. I sorta suspect we may see larger hunting wagons, too, as things progress.

All that said, last night I wasted like probably 20 (in game) dollars because when I COULD get Cripps to pitch my camp, he'd tear it down again before I got to it. At one point, I had spent an excruciating amount of time in the vicinity of my camp collecting a full wagon of perfect pronghorn and whitetail, and when I took it to my camp, i reached the literal threshold of camp and it just vanished, and I was informed Cripps packed up.

I think I know how Cripps dies.

Selling every collection and all the duplicates I had brought me to a little under 4500, if I recall correctly. Should note that before I scoured the map I had blown through all but like 50 dollars.

That said, I don't suggest worrying with every item. Coins and jewelry and heirlooms, though... just because they're so profitable. Like, there's an exhausting number of cards and then they sell for crap--I think cards are best to just grab as you come up on them, then hold onto them and sling em at Nazar when you need a little extra cash. That's my new strategy, anyway.

Edit: i mean, try and get every item at least once, just cause they actually did a good job at putting them in places that you very well may have never seen before. Last night I saw the inside of that cave with the circle of statues in it for the first time. What the gently caress, even? Like, almost everything else makes immediate sense to me for the historic context--like how the home that in the story has the "man bear pig" thing in its upstairs is a taxidermist making weird amalgamations to sell as novelties or even pass off for a hoax, perhaps, that sorta poo poo. I entirely agree. I know a lot of people may think it's boring, but it's perfect for me. I get a camp set up (more on that in a sec), then go collect while Cripps makes goods to deliver. I stock Cripps enough so he makes goods until they halt cause of a resupply, then I use the pause in production to fill the raw materials up all the way (or close, since the resupply will fill it the rest of the way), run the resupply, then back to collecting. At my a most dedicated and productive, I've made 6k in one day. But that's not even necessary.

Pylons posted:

I love Trader when it works. Probably the chillest thing in the game is just setting up camp somewhere and hunting close to it, and I don't even have the wagon yet.

Thing is, once you get in a profitable groove with any role, the 2 bucks to create a camp is trivial as gently caress, so I never really start playing until I have a camp set up in a good spot.

I mention this because I don't see Trader as broken. The camp bug is annoying as poo poo, but all you gotta do is get one to pitch and just pray it doesn't despawn. The hunting wagon helps immensely, because the cargo in it saves when you disconnect or whatever. So if you have good carcasses but need to server hop to get a camp to spawn, just pop it in your wagon and do so.

I know I'm rambling, but I am a big fan of the Frontier Pursuits update. I went from perpetually broke as poo poo to being able to rake in obscene amounts and spend them on whatever I want because I know bad purchases can be recouped easily.
