Midway through the game, when Arthur has to sneak around and steal the sacred artifacts and medicine from the US army, will zero-kill stealth skills affect the negotiations, or does it devolve into a hostage situation/bloodbath no matter what ?

I think they eventually will since GTAO lets you do it for roughly the price of a Porsche-tier car. In the early days of GTAO, the game would randomly present me with the option to redo my character's appearance, so RDO might give us the same option when the beta period ends.

I hope at some point in 2019 RDO gets purchasable residences and illicit businesses. Old rickety mountain cabins, upscale St. Denis apartments, moonshine operations, Guarma mercenary missions where you can smuggle rum or explosives, or do fort defense where you & your posse help the Guarmans fend off increasingly difficult, randomized attacks by Cuban NPCs. Not to mention bank, train, and industrial heists, etc.

And a real long shot: side activities like horseshoes, darts, or dominoes that you can't bet on, just win a decent chunk of XP.

Does Rockstar seriously think red blips and NPC bounty hunters are going to be an effective anti-griefing feature? If it's the same dogshit police AI that's been copy-pasted into every release since Vice City, they'll mill around uselessly before getting mowed down by dynamite arrows. Eventually the griefer will run out of ammo or slip up and die and then... respawn with no wanted level and go right back to griefing. RDO should have had a draconian bad sport system in place on day 1. No ability to call or get on a horse, respawns take 4x as long, and a 75% penalty on all XP and money rewards for five levels would be a great start.

The Valentine pike wagon technique seems to work for about one in-game day and then at some point while you're in the sell dialog, RDO will arbitrarily delete the wagon and any fish that were still in it. This game really likes to de-spawn things. I've had an entire train vanish from underneath me as it rolled into St Denis.

Also, what is going on with all the blurry see-through players? Are they in some temporary protected "just spawned" state, or is that happening due to their lovely connection?

Apparently there's some kind of carcass duplication glitch you can do at the butcher. I was selling some random pelts in Blackwater and saw some players who looked like they were in GTA passive mode whistling repeatedly. Then a bunch of cougar carcasses randomly spawned on the ground. They disappeared pretty quickly but they lasted long enough to pick one up and sell it.

If they're doing what they did with GTA 5, then they need to move away from twitchy 2005 deathmatch poo poo (which RAGE/Euphoria is too kludgy to handle well) and go whole hog on co-op content that includes residences, heists, illicit enterprises, Guarma, and Mexico at the very least. More reasons to visit saloons. More activities involving boats. More reasons to visit the snowy mountain areas. Hell, add a Gun Rush mode in a snowy location so you can track people's snow trails. Or a faction rep system so in some areas you're at a higher risk of a gang ambush, and in others, NPCs can go after players who attack you if you're in good enough standing with the local gang.

For the daily challenges, they just need to split them in two. Have 3 or 4 free roam challenges that don't involve player-killing, a little separator graphic thing, and then 3 or 4 PvP challenges that you can only do in versus modes. Right now, completing all dailies gives you a little additional bonus of XP and money on top of the ones you get for each checkmark. Just split that amount in two and award it for each of the smaller lists you finish.

There is a main storyline involving the online character you create. It's kind of short but it's pretty fun and there are more story missions to do once you become dishonorable enough. There are also PvP instances, and free roam stranger missions involving repossession, assassination, escorts, etc where other players in the lobby can try to foil your plans. Most of my online time is spent in free roam, but you can rack up a decent pile of money just doing PvP showdowns.

This game is so great. I just came back to it after a few months and was riding around. I found a stranger mission Iíd never seen, then I saw a weird animal on the ground and heard it squeal. I tried to see what it was, because my gun sight was red like I could shoot it, but there was no prompt to examine it, with gun or binocs, like it was dead.

I got off my horse and walked up to it and got the option to skin itóa possum.

I tried to and it jumped up and scurried away, at which point I could examine it.

The possum was playing possum, meaning it appeared dead as far as the gameís mechanics were concerned. I love this game.

I can't bring myself to kill opossums. For one, they eat ticks that would otherwise spread lyme disease. And they can't choose to play dead - it's an involuntary stress reaction. Also when you zoom in on a "dead" opossum with binoculars you can see its mouth making a very subtle breathing animation.

RDO should add emote text in the same place where the offensive/defensive notifications go. "[player] bows respectfully", "[player] spits" etc. Some of the animations are easy to miss if you're not looking right at the player. Mistakes can happen and innocent people can get shot.

Varmint rifle, bolt action rifle, and repeating shotgun are all great guns. Personally, I've avoided the Springfield, despite having literally grown up right next to Springfield, MA. As for repeaters, Lancaster and Evans are great for both PvP and for those hideouts and random ambushes that happen in free roam. The Evans has a satisfying boom when you fire it, but the Lancaster seems to have the edge in PvP showdowns. When you can, get a second holster and purchase a pair of Schofields, or if you're willing to hold out a little longer, splurge on a pair of semi-automatic pistols. I've lost count of how many times I've been swiss-cheesed by akimbo semi-auto pistols in a showdown.

You shouldn't have to wade into deep water to skin a gator. So many gators just lounge around in the mud. They're all around the St. Denis, Bayou Nwa, and Bolger Glade area. I like to hunt the small gators. Their skins can stack on your horse and at the end of your mini-gator hunting expedition you can bag a couple heron or spoonbills with the varmint .22, stow them on each side of your saddle, and then catch a longnose gar before heading to the butcher.

Hunting locations here: https://imgur.com/r/reddeadredemption/QIX2uQQ

The chestnut Arabian is a fast horse but it's easily spooked by snakes, gators, lightning, nearby gunfire, and harsh language. You'll eventually be able to buy the Nacodoches saddle and the hooded stirrups which combine to let you gallop at full tilt to your heart's content without ever gassing out your horse. Horse choice really depends on your preferred activity. The Missouri Fox Trotter and Turkoman are great all-around horses. Arabians excel in races. War horses like the Ardennes are a little more resilient to stressors like gunfire and wolf packs.

As for honor, RDO really wants you to be honorable. I went on a deliberate quest to torpedo my honor and it took an all-out massacre of cops and lawmen that lasted a full in-game day and when I finally quit I was around 40% on the honor meter. Since then I've kind of slacked off on brazen thrill kills and my honor has climbed back to "honorable" just by feeding my horse every now and again.

I also caught the wide-face bug that's been going around. I've fared pretty well with the Litchfield, but over time it's taken a backseat to the Evans for PvP and random NPC firefights. With the right ability cards like Paint it Black, the Litchfield can wreak havoc. Supposedly the Lancaster is still king of PvP but I have yet to buy it because I'm biased toward guns that allow lots of shots before reloading. I have no complaints about my bolt-action though. I use it in almost all situations: hunting, bounties, hideouts, and a lot of the showdown modes.

7 gold bars at level 30
7 gold bars at level 45
7 gold bars at level 60
7 gold bars at level 69

I could be wrong though - the amounts might ramp up instead of splitting evenly 7x5. Either way, by not buying the pass you wouldn't technically be missing out on any gold, but you would miss out on the cash and all the other rewards/unlocks. The only players who'd lose out on gold are those who spent the 35 gold to get the pass and didn't reach level 69.

Keep in mind the Outlaw Pass levels up very quickly. I still haven't reached level 20 in any role, but I reached Outlaw Pass level 70 before the end of September just popping in to play here and there. RDR2 on PC will be my first RDR experience

how much is it structured like GTA, and what is the online experience like? I generally did not like GTA V Online.

In general, it's more solemn and slow-paced than GTA. If GTA draws from Michael Bay/Fast & Furious movies, Red Dead is more of an Unforgiven/Deadwood vibe. There's much more world detail & immersion. Your home base is an organic part of the story instead of just a bed & a garage. Some mission types are similar to GTA, but there are some clever and very memorable missions scattered throughout the single player story.

RDO tends to be less chaotic than GTAO. People aren't yelling racial slurs at each other in the public voice channel. No k/d warriors in military vehicles repeatedly killing you. No power-creep bullshit like the orbital cannon. And there are ways to make money besides doing risky shipments in a vulnerable, slow-moving vehicle. Most of the time people stay out of your hair unless you happen to wander into a big PVP shootout going on in one of the towns.

Sometimes if it's a huge animal like a moose or grizzly, or if the carcass is in an odd position terrain-wise, Arthur just crouches down, the carcass snaps to its "skinned" state and he'll stand up holding the rolled-up pelt. But most of the time you have to wait through animations for things. It makes sense for the slower-paced late 19th century feel of the game, and it's consistent with other R* games (like putting up a DJ poster or getting money out of your nightclub safe in GTAO) but it would still be great if they added little QOL things like a "craft all" option so you can make a batch of multiple items with one button press.
