Of course there's another level of stuff to do with the Research Ships after you get them to 30/30.

It had the dual problem of being built just as carriers were about to take over and pagoda style fire control was being phased out in favour of radar based.

There will always be some degree of infamy for the "biggest X ever" regardless of how poorly it actually performs. Big things are cool, ergo the biggest thing is the coolest Q.E.D.

The funny thing for me is the story of Shinano's sinking. The USS Archerfish was doing commerce raiding off the coast of Japan when they stumbled across the largest aircraft carrier in the world. They wang every torpedo they can at it and get the hell out, managing to sink the thing due to a whole comedy of errors. Afterwards, when the captain was reporting on his patrol, no one believed him because Naval Intelligence never found out about the Shinano and all the fleet carriers were accounted for. They credited Archerfish with an escort carrier, and no one found out about it until after the war.

Uh, no. Or rather, there were absolutely issues with Yamato's design and construction - and being a superbattleship being built just as the age of the battleship ended (not that this was truly recognized by any navy when it was laid down) meant it was technically always a massive waste - but "inaccurate" in particular is so false that you're either misremembering, or really need to stop reading wherever you're getting that information from. "So wide it's impossible to miss" has an element of truth since it is wider than contemporary battleships, but realistically the extra ~25' of beam over them isn't all that significant when it comes to level/dive bombing.

For accuracy... the Japanese had arguably the best optical FCS in the world going into WW2. Their issue was that their radar development - and thus radar-assisted FCS - was way behind the curve. In practical terms, this means that in clear weather you're going to see no real difference between the two varieties of FCS (hell, the optical might actually be better compared to WW2-era radar), but it obviously becomes worse at night and in obscured sea conditions. Related to the above, but a different issue, is that the Japanese also didn't have the systems for their FCS to automatically aim the guns - it still needed to be done by the crews, with all the potential human error that entails. That has nothing to do with the guns themselves though, which in testing were noted as very accurate, or an issue exclusive to Yamato. There were some issues with shells as well (also not unique to Yamato, or even just battleships), but that had to do with dud rate rather than shell ballistics.

Actual specific issues with Yamato generally have to do with certain structural weaknesses of the hull and torpedo protection system.

A lot of the misinformation regarding her accuracy was that during the war a lot of her on-target shots were misattributed to other ships deployed with her (in one case Kongou was assigned a hit when she had no clear line of sight to the ship whereas Yamato did)

No reading. Probably late night TV while stoned/drunk or World of Warships assholes ranting while same. Just the first thing that my hind brain associated with the keyword 'Yamato'. Thank you for the information - it's a bit part of why I like this game and this thread.

I use memu and have done so since before this game hit EN. Some games won't run but AL is just fine. I've got mine set to 2 CPU, 4096MB for AL and directX. Don't use the root option as that will prevent a fair number of things from running (they don't like rooted phones).

Yes - also getting another that whenever I end any mission, I get the popup saying "defeat the boss fleet to end the mission" or words to that effect.

Well, yes, yes I know this, which is why I'm confused you're telling me that after I kill the enemy boss...

Shinano is good by virtue of her being of the highest rarity in the game, but will take a while to fully buff up via Limit Breaking (unless you are way, way luckier than I am).

Kii is generally solid. Not bonkers, but solid. Same for Suzutsuki.

The other 3 are kinda meh as far as I can tell (although not bad, no char in this game is bad to the point of being unusable).

Thanks for the input! I have currently Enterprise/Shinano/Kii and then Suzutsuki/Takao/Sirius currently and it seems to be good enough. I feel like I should do a full Sakura Empire team to maximise their buffs? Or is that a silly idea

Lord Koth
Jan 8, 2012

Shinano and Suzutsuki are both incredibly good. Shinano should be fairly obvious, but Suzutsuki both has really good stats (for a DD) and also an easy 30% FP/AA buff on top of them from Skill 1. Her Skill 2 provides a really good survivability buff to the team with the smokescreen, a fairly powerful barrage that comes out pretty often (on top of her other barrage), and a personal heal meaning she's good for map sustain. For those who know how the mechanics work, Skill 2 is apparently mistranslated and really provides an Evasion Rate boost, not EVA - for those who don't, just know this is a very good thing.

In brief for Shinano, she's got UR stats (obviously), absolutely massive damage, and provides a huge slew of buffs to Sakura Empire fleets. It's neither needed or required to run her alongside Nagato, so it opens up other backline options. Best CV currently in the game.

Kii's alright on her own, but apparently mostly being looked at for keeping at lvl 1 and used in EX maps to buff your vanguard for minimal power value increase.

Sakura and Royal Navy ships tend to favor working with ships of their own faction, Eagle Union fleets work better solo.

In general (there are of course exceptions):
- Sakura: Glass cannon fleet with excellent burst damage from torpedoes and airstrikes. Great Destroyers and Light Cruisers, good Carriers. Sakura Battleships are fine, with only their Heavy Cruiser being somewhat lackluster. Probably the most well-rounded faction.
- Eagle: Best at Anti-Air and are excellent ships in a vacuum. Cruisers (light and heavy) are excellent due to exchanging torpedoes for more guns, and they have the best overall Carriers in the game. Unlike the real US Navy, their Destroyers are mostly sub-par.
- Royal: All about the big guns. Battleships are excellent, and Carriers are decent. Royal Vanguard ships tend to favor evasion over anything else (lots of smokescreens), with good Light Cruisers and meh everything else.
- Ironbloods... I don't know what Ironblood is supposed to be good at anymore. Battleships are good, Cruisers and Destroyers are ok. They have the best Submarines, but Subs are more of a luxury than anything else.
- Iris/Vichya: Great Battleships with pre-loaded salvoes. Also enjoys setting other ships on fire.
- The other fleets don't have enough ships to really have a concrete identity yet IMO.

Rarity does not always correlate to power in this game. In the long term, you'll find that you'll be deploying some of the lower rarity ships (e.g. Ranger, Leander, Phoenix, Brooklyn) much more than trophy SR #17.

You can use whoever you want on worlds 1-8, as long as you level your ships, level your ship skills, and level your ship gear. World 9 is when you start to have to think about fleet composition, and World 12 is when tier lists actually start mattering.

When in doubt, just over-level.
