Jackpot was in a sort of disarray since the corruption of the Idol. Aside from the eerie black tree on the distant island, Zarrow’s execution of the young Divinante had not sat well with the populace. They weren't… Surprised, exactly - she had warned them against precisely what had occurred, with exactly the penalty she'd invoked… But they hadn't really expected her to go through with it. Not in front of the God like that. Surely the command of a God had some value? Surely that deserved some mercy? On the other hand, what she foretold had come to pass, and meddling with the island had been a disaster. Still, slaughtering him like an animal? On the other hand… It was into this turmoil that ZAPP manifested. He could see that Zarrow herself was conflicted, but surely didn't want the Gods to make anything worse. ZAPP considered himself a helpful God, and resolved to do something that would help the People of Cards. He whispered to them from on high, constructing in their minds a series of rules and regulations regarding how things ought to be done, taking care to form them around their system of moral values. So focused was he on this task that a part of his essence crumbled away and flowed into the river of his power. Despite the pain, he saw the concept settle into their minds. The seed of it, anyhow. The morning after his visit, the Divinante drew up the first Rules Card. (ZAPP loses 1 HP! The Divinante gain the beginnings of Lawfulness, tempering their chaotic nature with a structure that has been lacking since Suits and Hands were shuffled into a single Deck. Over time, this might be enough to overcome the miasma of despair and lethargy pouring from the Black Diamond.) --- The ghost-tainted Ataraxia was an abomination, one which broke MEOW’s Godly heart, but there was a greater injustice to be mended. The ghosts had aided the God, added it despite the eons of disconnect and loneliness that had been foisted on them by MEOW’s predecessors. They deserved another chance. The God gathered the sanest of the bunch (grains of sand to the beach of madness) and brought them to the Tree of Hope, invisibly flocking around the great bastion of life. Returning the dead was no simple task - bodies would need to be created. The God reached into the land and drew out what it would need; a core of Hope, Energy and Coffee to give the being vigor, and the curious reliability of Card to give them form. Buoyed by the Whispers beyond, MEOW raised the Eidolem from the grave. They took the forms of a facsimile of their previous bodies, as they remembered them, but they shared a common set of Materials. They were a strange sort of life, but they were alive… Which meant they could die. Several opted to do just that, and though the God was shocked it could not blame them for wanting a final rest. The others praised it for its mercy and kindness and asked what the God needed from them in return. The God smiled on them and told them honestly: just live. They had a second chance, and it was up to them to make something of it. (Many ghosts are reincarnated into synthetic - but living - bodies known as Eidolem. While they appear similar to their original forms, they share a similar construction, allowing any of them to access traits typically associated with another People. Each of them has some innate skill in Poltergust, but their body is proof against involuntary possession. Finally, they may perform any action inherent to life including dying and reproducing, though their unusual form means the latter can have... Odd results. Their Population is 2, though due to their situation this is expected not to matter terribly!) --- Still smarting from his earlier, ABZU returned to Cud and the Trumpets to see how the former was handling her new power. Not very well, it turned out! The Hero grieved the loss of her friend and parasite, and the other Kineticks shunned her as a freak. As for her own People, they comforted her where they could, but could not in their hearts understand why she had pushed that far in the first place. Their life was good - why had she wanted to grow stronger? Their complacency irritated the God of Unleashed Potential; this was PRECISELY why he'd spoken to Cud in the first place! There was more these creatures could do - should do - with their potential! He stretched out his hand, passing his will through the prism of Cud into her fellow People. It happened slowly at first, as befit their kind. A Trumpet gazed upon the hulking power and grace of their Hero and leader and felt… Pride? Perhaps a little envy? To watch her move, even in her grief, was like hearing poetry. Compared to her, the rest of them were dim and slow, no better than animals. Why not strive to be like her? The Trumpet stood a little taller, cared a little more - and withheld a little of its Energy when next a Kinetick tried to feed upon it. Why should they get to claim so much of what the Trumpet produced? Look at Cud - she'd taken from them, and look what it had given her? Maybe it was time for a change. (The Trumpets gain Self-Respect. Not that they didn't already like themselves, but they have begun to think of their situation as unequal and desire paths to improve themselves - which may or them in conflict with the Kineticks. The Kineticks for their part are growing concerned with the increased independence of their flocks, but are uncertain how to correct them. It is very, very inconvenient for business and day to day existence, however - the Trumpets have forever been docile and patient, and that is growing less true!) --- CARL watched his little People spread the epiphany that, hey, the Divinante weren't all that bad deep down when you go to the heart of things. He watched them rediscover an appreciation for the Coffee that had birthed them, and for the way that they were connected to the land. He did not, however, watch them discover Coffee Magic. Yes, sure, they were becoming a more rounded People and discovering a curiosity they'd lost etcetera etcetera, but he'd sent them here to learn some drat Magic, not splash around for ten hours. The Icon of Indifference would simply have to make an exception this time. He touched the Coffee in the swamp and a small area bubbled portentously. Doppio saw it immediately, and waded towards it. He could feel something building within him, a culmination of his efforts in this primordial place. The God of Indifference had led him to care, to engage critically with his People’s past, present, and - now - future. He scooped the boiling Coffee into cupped hands and took a ginger sip. He felt something spreading inside him, a sharpening of focus that left his mind eager for the day. This first tingle of Mo’joe, the Coffee Magic of Focus, brought a tear of wonder to his eye. He bowed so low the Coffee in his mug sloshed out, then he went to tell his People of his discovery. (The Cappucin have discovered Mo'joe, the Coffee Magic of Focus! Through ritual consumption of Coffee the Cappucin can clear their minds of all distractions and see what they must do to succeed in their task. Generally this is relatively mundane in nature, but advanced users can find their focus drifting into true precognition. This Magic can effectively replace the effects of Elixiration in cancelling out the Vapid curse, but those few who can perform both gain massively magnified effects from the synergy. Incidentally, though Coffee has an Addictive nature (and probably would lead to a somewhat... harmful Magic), past actions with the People have caused them to be more considerate and patient, affecting the Magic they discovered accordingly.) ZAPP was pleased and excited, but, upon realizing that a part of him had drifted away, he began to panic. Oh no. It's coming to an end. I'm coming to an end. This Age is coming to an end. It is the thought of a dying man that makes one panic. Unfinished business. He needed something unique, something... HIM. To leave a mark on the world. Then, he saw it. A beautiful woman, from the Espergine. Her name was simple: Kibou. But she was lovely. He wanted to do something to her. Leave his mark on her. And so... He appeared to her in a fake, mortal appearance. He said his name was Elpida. After some time getting to know her, they went back to her house. She was entranced by him, and he, by her. It was a powerful, brilliant love. Beautiful. Consensual. Reciprocal. True. And they made sweet, wonderful, beautiful love together. Then, he had to go. "You will have a son. When I am gone, you will name him 'Esperanza'. And he will be unlike anything the world has seen-powerful, kind, heroic, and handsome. He will deliver us from darkness." Elpida-ZAPP-said to her before he went. "Raise him well. Teach him the ways of the world. Let him connect with other races." And then, ZAPP fled back to his godly guise... Making a half-divine, half-mortal hero! : https://orokos.com/roll/710956 = 7 (+1 from my earlier 20 roll) = 8

Nice Cats The time of Gods was once again coming to an end. The Gods would die and the world would close itself off to Divine influence once more. The People would be alone again. But maybe this time they could be less alone, less cut off, than they'd been before. The Cataraxia had already seen one Godless Age. They would live to see the next. Perhaps their influence could be expanded, to inspire hope and joy to more than who they chose to guide. The Cataraxia could hear the prayers of the People. Wouldn't it be fair that the People could see the hearts of the Cataraxia, and perhaps in doing so, gain a greater understanding of others? And so, as a final act, the God MEOW once again reached for the Cataraxia and drew power around them. I guess I got one more in me As he gazed around CARL let out at a satisfied sigh. He felt like he gave the Cappucin the start of a purpose. But how would they remember him eons after he was gone? Would anyone care? Would anyone remember? Did CARL even care? He did care about the seek-and-find, that thing was cool and he missed it. Certainly non-Cappucin might as well not even know about CARL. Or Mo'joe. What could he do about that? CARL had an idea. Mo'joe is great, but it could be better. Encourage Doppio (and maybe that lovable Bean) to open a school... or more of a gathering place... where Cappucin and others can congregate to consume and explore Mo'joe and "get online". With a focus on training others to spread the word of Mo'joe and and bring more "gathering places" to the land. Maybe the Trumpets would like it Spread the word of Mo'joe and bring it to all the peoples 1d20 11 An appropriately indifferent result

Time was strange for the Gods as the People reckoned it. And so it was for Kibou and the Lord of the Skies. ZAPP took on a guise that was pleasing to her and courted her in the way of her People. They fell in love - rather, she fell in love - and in due time they coupled. And then he vanished, leaving a cryptic message. The mother, the woman, the vessel, did not take it well. News got out, and the Esperegrine were nearly evenly split between hatred for the transgressions of the Gods and a sort of quiet hope that the child would bring forth a new age of prosperity for their People. For the Esperegrine had largely been left to their own devices over the Ages, passed over for those down below even as the consequences of the Divine Actions rippled up towards them. The vessel, the woman, the mother, Kibou fell into a despair of loneliness and disconnection. Though her family and friends were unfailingly supportive, their expectations were crushing. Though she had been betrayed, her heart was still seized by a bitter love that no mortal could possibly match up to. And as the life continued to form inside her, the bitterness sank into it like rain. He was born with a roar like thunder, and the Alternating Currents twisted in the wake of coming. He - or rather it, for none could truly call it Esperegrine - grew rapidly, reaching what might be considered full adult stature within moments, and departed to contemplate the sky that had given it life. (ZAPP loses 1 HP! Godly essence and mortal blood are not fit to be melded, and doing so has created an Abomination. The Abomination of Sky known as [Sound-Of-Thunder] is Innocent, Disconnected, Powerful and Immortal. It will persist until the end of the land or it is somehow destroyed. In behaviour, it is benign but curious, containing no real malice. Neither does it know restraint, and the brush of its power is ruin. Crucially, it cannot be directly affected by the Gods, nor can it perceive their presence. It can, however, hear the voices of the Whispers, and may listen. It may instead, of course, follow its own whims.) --- Far, far below, a weakened but still hale God worked to unlock a downtrodden People’s true potential. ABZU had pushed Cud towards his goal, and in so doing had catalyzed the revelation of Trumpets true feelings - that they were tired of being slaves to the Kineticks, nothing more than beasts of burden and nourishment for their tiny masters! Was this true in the broader sense? It didn’t really matter, because it was plausible. That was the thing with potential - there wasn’t ever a single way it could be unleashed. It could be channelled, pushed towards a certain outcome, and what better outcome than this? The Trumpets were stronger than they knew, and their Hero was stronger still - but he could make them stronger yet. And so he had found Cud in the depths of her confusion and despair and spoken to her. She did not blame him for what had happened, and in truth it really hadn’t] been his fault. Just a fluke interaction with another God’s meddling. She didn’t blame herself either, but she felt guilt that another creature’s sacrifice had given her so much power. She moved faster, thought faster, and she liked it. She’d learned things she hadn’t even thought there were to learn, and despite her sadness she wanted to learn more. ABZU shared a secret - a hidden chamber deep below where the Remnant of a fallen God lay waiting for precisely someone like her. The God hadn’t come alone, either - other Trumpets wanted to act, but dared not go against the Kineticks outright. They implored her to lead them, to stop being so passive for once and help. It didn’t take much more to push her over the edge. Now, in the deep darkness, he led them to Some-Little-Risk. The altar table lay open and inviting, whispering subliminal promises. Cud looked for a moment like she was going to run, but she’d come this far already. She led the others into the darkness and they stood around it. Someone would have to die for their People to grow strong. ABZU stood ready, but a Person was needed. Some fool tried to run and was seized. An argument broke out, the outcome already certain - but it needed to be said. They couldn’t let him leave, he’d tell the others. They would come to this place, destroy it - or take it as their own. Could they allow their descendants’ bondage to be all the worse simply because their courage gave out here? Would their passive natures prevent them from doing what needed to be done? They held him down on the table and ABZU watched. He hadn’t pushed them, there. They’d made their own choices, drawn their own conclusions - they’d recognized something in themselves, something that they wanted. All he’d done was point out that it was possible. He condensed his form into a solid weight and dropped onto the prone figure. It was time to go. Cud placed her forepaws on the table and activated it. Ancient laughter fluttered around them like moths, and the God of Unleashed Potential let himself be drawn into the ritual. (So! Some-Little-Risk is activated, empowering Cud further and strengthening the tensions between Peoples. To the surprise of no one, the altar was pretty cursed! Cud is given the Traits Loyal, Liar, and Strategist, echoing the portfolio of the ancient God NATE-WENT-TY. She will be Loyal to her People, Lie to those outside her circle, and strategize the optimal method to claim Victory. In addition, the Strength, Energy and Mastery of Capacitempo granted to her this Age have made her a force to be reckoned with during the coming Godless Age!) --- Far from all of that, MEOW played with their Cataraxia. The God knew it would be gone soon, but that was alright, for its actions with these divine beasts would continue to help the People of the land long after it was gone. It wasn’t done yet, however. It touched the sleeping minds of the People of the land and nuzzled against their dreams, tweaking them slightly. Across the expanse sleepers groaned in their slumber, suddenly puzzled by the strange direction their dreams had taken. The dreamers were given an option to forego their nightly show for something entirely different: a viewing of the exploits of the Cataraxia and their charges. While the feline spirits were vaguely known to exist, this was the first exposure many had to them and their fantastical powers. The morning after, People fairly leapt out of their beds to relay what they'd seen. It was really just very nice. Nice to think that something was out there watching over them, and would continue even after the Gods had vanished. And after a long day of work, what better reward then settling in for the night and seeing what they were up to? (The People now have the option to watch the Cataraxia while they sleep. This has the general effect of increasing happiness and increasing faith and trust in the Cataraxia, and may serve to buffer any potential negative mental effects from certain events occurring elsewhere in the world. The People have eight channels to choose from - number Four is unavailable for obvious reasons!) --- CARL saw his works, and they Were Good. At least they were Good Enough. The a Cappucin had found their own Magic (finally, after much prodding) and their Hero’s boiling temper had been cooled. But now what? He probably had enough juice for one more whammy before the big nap, and he didn't want to waste it. Doppio kept praying to him, asking for advice and whatever, but he got the sense the Hero was looking for a long term plan. Like, a Quest or something. Alright, sure, he could work with that. CARL called upon Doppio and bade him to go to the center of the Cangrove swamp. Just for the drama, really, but the Hero really dug it. Once he was there all immersed in the ancient history of his People and all that, CARL charged him to go out into the world and spread the power of Mo’joe to the rest of his People and all others across the land. By creating a number of gathering places to sit and drink Coffee, his word and his will would be done. Also if they could be called Carlbucks in his memory that would be alright by his divine will. Doppio thanked him fervently and set off immediately to do his bidding. CARL hung around long enough to watch the first one go up, nodded to himself, then peaced out to the void outside all things. With his disappearance, the Third Godless Age began with a distant rumble of thunder. (Simply enough, CARL founds Carlbucks, a franchise of shrines to Coffee and the memory of CARL where People can gather to drink, benefit from Mo’joe, and just sort of hang out and talk. It remains early days right now, but already the concept is very popular among… well, everyone, somehow!) --- (And that’s the third Age done! That last round was… yeah! Anyhow, we need some Remnants!

Hmm. Here's how I see it. [Sound-of-Thunder] can't be directly interfered with by gods, and may or may not turn into a problem. Could be fine to leave it alone, but if it isn't, then its going to be that much more difficult in the gods time. The rise of the dread-cattle however, is nearly guaranteed to cause problems if left alone. But, dread-cattle don't have the protection-against-divine factor going on. So gods can take the direct approach if needed. (And while there are other emergencies, those will probably be fine, right?)
