I've been playing the super early pre-alpha, can't really talk about it but there's not a lot to talk about either. I like the setting, and that people can work together to build settlements, that part reminds me of Star Wars Galaxies.

I think the only thing that makes me hopeful about this game is they are saying the sandbox stuff, but they aren't some 90s dev posting on kickstarter asking for money. They at least have a budget and presumably, a corporate structure above them that will want to see some work being done instead of squandering all the kickstarter bucks on nothing

It seems to be an amalgamation of the ideas floating around from lots of mmo. -Sandbox -Unlimited customization, but you can also make a tank / healer / dps. -Focus on pvp, large guild v guild and fights over castles. -Mob AI is clever. -Pictures of middle ages fights in fields/forests. -The world is huge For me, I just dont see anything to be really excited about.

Crytek is super butthurt that CIG changed engines and is suing them though, they need that Star Citizen crowd funded money because they declared bankruptcy and are barely staying afloat now. Unfortunately Chris Roberts spent all of Star Citizens money on cocaine.

The success/failure of this game and the new Fallout will probably be the determining factor if other larger studios pursue the sandbox pvp genre and what the details of those games look like. The other competitive advantage I think is that Amazon loves throwing money at poo poo to win out over competition and I bet this game has some pretty high resource server hosting options when other companies say we plan on adding 1000000k player servers you have a laugh and know they are full of poo poo and its going to be some janky compromise but if its possible they have the resources to make it happen with this one. dogsupremacy fucked around with this message at 22:09 on Aug 29, 2018 |
