Tips: To use items like a lighter, etc. You highlight the item you're using first, then right clicking on the item you're using it on second. This will bring up the context menu with options. Search for rocks to craft a stone knife. This opens the door to cutting down small trees and bushes, and cut up clothes to make rags, and opening canned food! You can then move on to making spears, backpacks, and heal with rags. If you're hungry, you can eat puppets, players, and animals. Kill a person, search them, chop them up into steaks. You can then cut down a small tree, craft it into a simple fire. Light the fire with matches, zippo, or craft yourself a fire drill beforehand. Using more sticks near the steaks, create a spit, then create a spit with meat. Select the spit with meat and select the fire and cook it. Eat it. Yum. Using a weapon with a sight, you can right click to bring up the iron sights, then right clicking again will zoom in a little bit more making head shots that much easier. To make bullets, keep an eye out for a toolbox, a lead plate, and gunpowder. It's worth making room for all three if you have a gun. Many guns need magazines to shoot more than a single bullet at a time. Watch your calorie intake and burn. If you're running everywhere, your stamina and energy is going to drop real quick. To get insane amounts of calorie intake, eat meats and fats from people/puppets/animals. Get used to running only when needed or when you have loads of extra calorie intake, as the game is updated more this will have more effects on your character. Gunshots attract more puppets. Your bags and jackets etc will show a weight limit. If you can't put something into a slot for some frustrating reason, check the weight. Do items despawn? I noticed bushes I cut down respawning after a certain amount of time hanging out in one area but I'm curious if my various well stocked idiot bodies strewn across the map that died to lone zombies are helping out pubbies who have the nerve to use the same server I do.

Not sure how long they stay. Possibly until server restart? Crafted storage boxes stay forever as far as I know though. I think containers respawn with items every hour-ish.

I'll have to keep an eye out and see. I've finally linked up with my friend so we can use our fame points to spawn near each other and test that. Speaking of spawning, my suggestion to new players who have friends is to forget linking up with them right away. Take your time to go through Philthy's tip list on your way to your rendezvous so that you can build up a stack of fame points that you can use to spawn in better places or closer zones to your friends if you happen to die on the way. You can spend 50 fame points to pick a zone to spawn in which is very easy to accrue. Building a spear (for violence) is going to be your biggest game changer prior to getting lucky with a container spawn and you can earn a lot of fame points with that spear killing puppets and boars in the early game. Alternatively if you're playing solo, you can build a shelter and spend 75 fame points upon death to respawn there which I find a vastly better option than respawning somewhere random. You'll know the area already and where to go, maybe even loot your dead corpse (if those hang around?). tl;dr, despite the bucket hole plugging game of metabolism, fame points are going to be your limiting reagent in this game. Earn them early and earn them often! e: They're doubtlessly going to change how spawning on squadmate works - as it is, you could be fighting a small army as your opponents instantly spawn back on their buddies while you're all still in combat with each other. Also, doing actions in front of the floating cameras will gain you extra fame points. Shooting and destroying the camera gives you like 50 or 60 fame points.

The spawn system seems like it'll be an issue. Group corpse runs that cascade into never-ending skirmishes weren't uncommon in DayZ, and I assume team respawn will exacerbate the issue. Unless people fail to accrue a strong fame pool, which seems possible. It also feels weird to me that your metabolic state doesn't reset on death. Yeah, sure, I'll just retain those 30,000 kcals forever.

I had crossed over the drat a couple times and sort of casually looked out to the west and gone "Huh that seems steep" but I finally got around to disabling the background DoF blur (which the devs are currently okay with) and it turns out it's not just steep, it's an actual loving gigantic-rear end dam. There's a path on the north side that runs down the cliff face and it takes a solid few minutes of jogging to get down it. I think you're right in that I've never seen an open-world map have that much verticality before. Obviously things like Skyrim have tall mountains but they're typically just kinda big hills that look imposing, the dam in SCUM is downright impressively scary. It's also got a shitton of military grade crates at the bottom of it, and it's super easy to get into past the robots compared to a lot of similarly equipped places. Coming in from the south side of the river is easiest, but even the north side is pretty simple - stay on the river edge and go up through the transformer field, make sure the middle robot doesn't see you while you're waiting to dart across the road, then just do your typical stay out of sight behind crates stuff. And don't forget to check the roof, ladder's in back. Also I don't think we really have enough interest for a separate Discord necessarily, goons as a whole have kind of burned themselves out on DayZ as a concept, but if anyone wants to play a SCUM and be relatively chill about it add me on the Steam and I'm down to do whatever. Typically in it for the murder but I'm never going to yell at anybody for being bad or anything, poo poo's weird and hard.

The game is in a very playable state right now. Just be aware players will warp around currently if you get into a punching match. They're working on that. Most of the game is exploring, gearing up, crafting right now anyways. I've gotten my $20 out of it easily. I'm really enjoying it. I finally was able to craft a shelter and a crate to store poo poo in. Where it says 2x Rope, it means two full STACKS of rope. It should say 20x for this, as everything else draws from stacks and I guess it's a bug and will be fixed shortly as well. That said, I'm going to start putting crates all over the map and loading them up with extra weapons and ammo. Little kill stashes. I haven't had the game crash on me yet. Yo I'm really enjoying this game and didn't get into many a dayZ-alike at any point so that might explain it, it feels p good though and I like the mech doodats. If anyone wants to play with me my steam thing is https://steamcommunity.com/id/brianuk/ I'm in the UK but don't really mind playing on other servers Also pro tip for melee fights: You can disengage from combat with V to move back at your normal run speed then charge them and punch them in the face and run away again, it really matters where you hit them to actually hurt them enough to knock them out though and that's mad buggy
