Basically KCB has been thinking of getting a new laptop recently since her current one is knockin on death's door and given what she wants from a laptop, I was thinking she might be better off saving up for both a pc and a tablet and just using the tablet to stream the pc for the stuff she wants to stream from, mainly games, and the tablet would be more portable than a laptop. I dunno if that's a good idea and I know it'd be more expensive since it'd require purchasing a bunch of stuff for a new PC + obtaining a tablet and getting whatever software lets you stream from nvidia graphics cards or whatever it was, but know she's been on the lookout for refurbished deals and she'd wanna know if that's a good deal on meh or not.

my laptop strat has always been to buy the cheapest 11-13" with the best keyboard and just use it to remote into my desktop. those used to be lenovos but they don't really make those kinds of computers anymore

Don't game on a laptop imho. It has a small screen, beefy ones are super prone to overheating and you still need space to put it and use it in a sitting position anyway, so you might as well use a desktop. In my experience streaming games can work but Wifi streaming usually results in artifacts and input lag. (I wired up my steamlink and tweaked the config and it is serviceable but you can still tell it's streaming.) Plus if you stream pc games to a tablet you lose the mouse and keyboard advatage. If you just use the tablet/laptop to game on the couch as you say, you could also use a small Desktop/HTPC and just prop it next to the TV. That way you only need 1 device.

My wife's $250 Windows laptop could barely handle web browsing much less playing any type of game on it. Her $90 8 year old refurbished desktop runs circles around it.

https://www.gog.com/game/saboteur the saboteur is $3 on GOG and doesn't require origin also, here are some current games that will run fine on modern low-end laptops: azure striker gunvolt, portal knights, dragon's dogma, pan-pan, kingsway, else.heartbreak, cryptark, dark souls 2, way of the samurai 3, hacknet, xanadu next, monolith i haven't tried stardew valley but i'm sure that runs fine as well. any 2d indie game will have a decent shot of working just fine The 7th Guest fucked around with this message at 09:04 on Sep 6, 2018 |

I wouldn't buy a notebook without SSD. Or rather, I wouldn't USE a notebook without SSD. It's cheap to replace it and usually you're not storing gigabytes of data on it so you can do with a smaller drive. I had to use an old HDD before I bought a new SSD in my notebook for a month and whenever I did something more intensive than looking at the desktop the whole system slowed down to a crawl. Even with a tiny 60 GB SSD I felt like my notebook was super fast and it never locked up. The quality of life upgrade I got with SSD was much bigger than any CPU or GPU upgrade I could get for the same amount of money.

Everything is breaking down and it's all stuff the state needs to handle, so I have the great job of taking people's complaints and passing them up while hoping the state deigns to fix the issue and let me know. Just a lot of "Yes, we're aware and we're working on it" for like three separate issues. In the meantime, I'll relax by listening to a collection of video game music that has been posted in the monthly chat threads. I feel like I'm one of 6 people who care about this, but THQ Nordic announced that they got the rights to Kingdom Of Amalur. I think it's one the most underrated and underplayed RPGs of the PS3/360 gen. With how they work, I figure we'll get a remaster announcement sometime this year
