The Women's Suffrage movement in the UK was hardcore. They were burning down homes of Members of Parliament and Lords of the House of Lords. When nobody was home so nobody got hurt, but still. They would judo flip a cop, get arrested, go on hunger strike in prison, be released because of the hunger strike, then go judo flip another cop while setting a mansion on fire.

To tie it in with that big WWI post, the movement lost steam during The Great War. Hunger strikes didn't garner sympathy when Our Boys were off dying in trenches.

I went to look up the history of the bicycle and his bike is a fairly modern design with equal sized wheels, a diamond-ish frame, and a chain driven rear wheel. In 1896 that design was less than 10 years old and the pneumatic tire was also less than 10 years old. I think they are pneumatic tires, it's hard to tell.
